For your consideration I have a lovely chair. I am not sure how old it is as there are no markings on it. It is being offered with No Reserve to the highest bidder. Although. I don't know much about this piece, I will do my best to describe it. It is a Windsor back rocking chair either meant for a doll or a salesman's sample. It is well made and quite detailed. It is a cherry mahogany shade of wood and stands just over 12" tall. It is about 8 1/2" at its widest point. It is a rocker and has curved arms. Here's a very rare handwritten receipt dated April 30. 1838. It is addressed to Norman Williams of Woodstock, Vt for two sets of chairs. One set of 6 cane seat chairs $8. Another set of 6 dining chairs $6, and what looks like interest 2 1/2 brass. Total $16.10. It is signed Rec'd Payment John White. Norman Williams was a prominent citizen in Woodstock. Today in Woodstock is the Norman Williams library. John White is considered one of Vermont's best Windsor chairmakers. This is a 19th century windsor high chair with natural patina from use and polishing since the 1800s. In great condition. This is a sturdy piece that could still be used today. This fine American Continuous Arm Windsor boasts a very early and deeply worn surface, full of oxidized and ruddy character. The form of this chair, while closely related to that of both Connecticut and Rhode Island, remains distinctly New York in style. More specifically, the formation of the nine-spindles allows a gap between the last spindles and the short arm spindles, a gap that is generally bridged by broader stretching spindles in New England forms. The spindles taper smoothly in an even manner, not with the swollen midriff typical of Connecticut; ... morefurther, the medial stretcher is flanked by a pair of rings, a distinctly New York feature and the overall robustness of the turnings in the legs are infrequently found outside of New York. The stance of the windsor is just delightful, the front legs nearly perpendicular to the ground with the back legs sharply canted, relieving the angle of the back and providing great comfort in the form. Complimented by the skillfully carved shield shaped seat, scooped from a solid plank of Yellow Poplar, the result is a very comfortable and supportive chair that is just as enjoyable for lounging as it is visually striking. The crest rail is steam bent from a single piece of either oak or hickory(not microanalyzed) The spindles tenoned through the crest rail and joined with a split wedge, the arms raised over turned balusters that nearly mirror the profile of the legs. Antique Child's Windsor Plank Seat Arm Chair Old Black Paint ca. 1850 PA Estate!
Thanks for taking the time to view our posting. We are proud to offer for your consideration this wonderful 19th century antique child's Windsor arm chair from a PA estate. Excellent craftsmanship.made of solid hardwood(sorry but I'm not sure what kind) Solid plank seat. Hewn to form a saddle shape with a slightly raised center. All lathe turned, slender spindles/spokes pegged into a steam bent/curved swooping top rail. This top rail has a simple, but lovely incised/carved center molding line decoration, which is characteristic of Windsors made in and around Boston. Unlike the Windsor side chair, which has no arms, this piece has a two-tiered back, with a secondary stem bent/curved medial rail that extends to form the chair arms, which are then supported on each corner of the seat by two fantastic, lathe turned and steam bent arch ... moreshaped spindles. Lathe turned legs, with characteristic medial stretcher between horizontal stretchers on each side. Front two legs feature beautiful ball shaped decorative turning.such decorative turnings on front legs along with plain back legs is also characteristic of early chairs from the Boston area. Very sturdy! The piece is painted with old black paint over an earlier red paint and what appears to be an even earlier red wash or stain. All of these finishes have worn to the most wonderful, authentic primitive patina with bits of red showing through the current black paint! Based on the style and construction technique, I would estimate the age of this great little chair to be ca. 1840's- 1870's, possibly earlier. The piece is in very good condition, especially considering its age. Appropriate wear to all surfaces and edges, minor wear and losses to paint from many years of exposure, which gives it a great primitive appeal! There are some old repairs.on the left arm, there is an old screw which was apparently used to reinforce the spot where the end of the arm meets its supporting spindle. Folk art chair. Black. Handpainted by Grace Ingalls in the early 1900s; but we were told by the family that the chair itself is much older. Likely from the 1800s. Sold as is. Has some chipping some damage but is structurally very sound. Very heavy duty in terms of the thickness of the seat and overall stability. Artist was the grandmother of our neighbor. Mark. His mother, Helen, is the daughter of Grace- Grace was the daughter of Sylvia Ingalls a cousin of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Mark's father. Who recently passed, was born and had been living at the Ingalls family farm in Cuba New York. Windsor 9 spindle back brace side chair, saddle seat, vintage Nutting(?)
I'm no expert on identifying Windsor pieces. But I do know this is vintage. It has a tiny piece of torn paper label that says_ Company Wis USA. It has 9 spindles plus the two spindles on the brace. The brace is anchored with a wood ball which I have been unable to find on any image on the Net. The spindles are shaped. The legs and the stretcher piece are turned. I don't know the correct words to describe the finish, but it is like tiny bubbling on part of the chair(see pictures) Someone carelessly let some white paint splash on part of the chair, but nothing that can't be removed I'm sure. It has a saddle seat that is 1 inch to 1-1/2 inch thick. The seat is 17-1/2 in across and 16-1/4 in deep, 35-3/4 in tall. 17-5/8 in from floor to seat. I picked this side chair up just the way it is. it's missing the two dowels that go from the back to front but the dowels on the back are in good shape. I see a lot of these chairs with repairs and I figured someone just might want this one for parts. I would like to disasemble it for shipping. It's already apart in a few spots. It would make easy shipping too. This is as is. Came with the white paint on it. But has the stamp still under the seat. My other one doesn't have that so I think this one is newer than that green one. There are no broken parts on this one that I can see the two pieces are gone. You could replace them and prob put it back together.

Offered hre is a very. Very nice and authentic Wndsor style arrowback Youth Chair. This chair has the classic signs of good old age: Scribe marks, through tenons with wedges, wear and rounding on the footrest, and a solid pine slab seat. This chair has seen minor repairs, but is still strong and sturdy, yet light in weight. The woods used in the construction of this chair are maple, pine and others. All of the original parts seem to be present. There is a repair on the back of the seat. Please see the last photo. This does not affect the stability or strength of this chair. Antique New England Country Folk Art Black Painted Birdcage Back Windsor Chair Very nice chair Legs are mortised into the seat Very good condition. There has been a make do repair to the bottom. A 3/4" thick pine board was added to reinforce a crack/split that developed in the seat, due to ageing and shrinkage. The chair was reprinted at this time. This repair is about 100 years old. It shows good wood oxidation. Under the current black painted surface. There is several layers of paint, down to the original green paint, which if scraped down, would be a very desirable chair. Over all a good chair. In good condition. 17" wide. 16" deep, 34" height overall, 17 1/2" seat height. Fed ex shipping on this one. 5 day packing/processing time.

Antique Child's Wood Windsor style painted black rocking chair. I'm not sure of it's exact age but probably early 1900's. The chair measures 18" high. 14" wide with 4 rungs on the bottom. Corners of the arms have some missing wood but does not effect the strength of the chair. Very solid.There are dings here and there but they give character to the piece.Not sure what kind of wood but looks like oak. This piece is so solid a child could use it and it would stand up. They were made to look antique but they are not. This has the round top at the back. It measures 13" tall, approximately 15" wide, and depth of 5" from the rail at the back to the front edge. The width of the sitting area on each is approximately 7" It's antiqued with black paint. You will also see in the posted pictures, on one of the sides, the middle rail has a place broken off at the top. It could be colored with some type of black marker maybe and not be so visible. I even sat a doll in this one with that side turned to the front, and that way it's not visible at all. I thought maybe someone may be interested ... morein it still.
