Antique Victorian Veneered Frame & 5 Vintage Photos of a Baby in a Windsor Chair
Up for your consideration is this antique Victorian veneered picture frame with 5 Victorian era photos of a little baby in a Windsor chair. It was says A Stephendson. Melrose at the bottom right. The frame includes its old wavy glass and parts of the original backing. It measures 6 3/4 by 19 3/4 inches, overall and will accomodate a 6 by 19 inch picture. It is in good solid condition with some corner chipping. The photos are in very good condition. The matte backing has minor moisture staining at the bottom. Wonderful miniature bow back salesman sample windsor chair. Handmade by River Bend chair company in West Chester. Ohio. Blue finish over colonial red. Hand distressed so some of the red shows through. Stands almost 15 inches tall. Does not have stamp, but I purchased it myself in Ohio from the chair company years ago. These are individually bench made, just like their full size chairs. Sadly, they no longer make these little beauties. For sale is an antique Windsor Lowback chair writing desk. Not many of these have survived the test of time. Has a crack where table meets the arm. Still very strong. Fixable and useable. Has scratches& signs of use,No repairs noted. Look's like it was stained or painted and over time it has come off. one of the reason's I think it's a very old piece. I can find no markings other than an old sticker with the# 44. This is a real classic, Has the wire support rods on both sides. Chair is 29 in tall, 27 in wide and 29 deep. Circa 1850 Child's Yew Wood Splat Back Windsor Arm Chair From England Antique
This 19th century English child's Windsor arm chair was probably made between 1820 and 1870. I believe the wood is yew. The seat is 12" tall. From floor to top of back it is 28" and 16.75" at the widest part, across the arms- all measurements are approximate. It has an upper and lower splat back with 2 spindles on each side of the upper splat The legs are turned with a nice double ring and there is a crinoline stretcher. It has ball feet and the underarm supports are nicely turned. As far as I can tell, it is all original, including the finish. I have rubbed oil on it, but that is all. The seat has a stain on the front left- you can see it in the 2nd picture. Also, the seat wood has a rather large knot- part of the knot is missing and has left a small crater- you can see it up close in picture#4. The last picture shows ... morea crack by one of the rear spindles- it runs from the spindle to the edge of the seat- it is an old crack. If you know more about this chair than I do, please feel free to correct me so I can be as accurate in this description as possible. Overall condition is very good. Happy to answer all questions. Beautiful Windsor Back Salem rocking chair made by Nichols& Stone Co. This chair has a gilded fruit and floral design. Height- approximately 40-1/2" Floor to seat 14-3/4" Width of seat- approximately 22" Depth of seat. 18" I am not sure of the age of this chair but estimate it to be early to mid century. Unique Antique American Sackback Windsor Chair
This old Sackback Windsor chair looks to date from the mid to late 1700s. It is still very sturdy and"citable" It's actually very comfortable. Form the details it looks to be from Philadelphia or maybe RI. I'm not an expert in Windsor Chair origins. So that's just my best guess based on the features. It has nice'knuckled" arms. Rather than the plain paddle type. Seven spindles across the back and two short ones on either side. The D-shaped saddle carved seat is nice and wide and deep. So it feels very roomy. All the wood is in very good shape. Other than the obvious wear that is visible in the pictures. Nothing that can't be touched up it need be. But, after all it's been used for well over 200 years and its going strong! The finish is old. With a nice patina of age to it and is still shiny and warm. ... moreIt invites touching and sitting. The joinery is all tight and sturdy. The great unique feature of this old chair is that at some point in the long ago. It was converted for use as a commode chair. Way back in the day someone used this in their bedroom, behind a screen no doubt, with a chamber pot set on boards beneath the seat. That's just how you did it back in the day. The opening in the seat was subsequently closed up- probably with the advent of indoor plumbing in the 1800s, and the chair lived on. It's a great conversation started for sure. That's why my father decided he wanted it. Now it's time to pass it on to a new home. And continue the legacy of this amazing old Windsor chair. Please. Please ask questions before bidding! Antique Windsor Arm Chair Philadelphia Continuous-Arm Style Circa 1800
This early arm chair is about 36 in. high. 21 in. wide, and 22 in. deep. The Poplar seat is about 18 in. wide, 17 in. deep and 17 in. high. The seat is Poplar; the legs, stretcher, and arms are Maple; the bow and spindles are Hickory. It has Pennsylvania style bamboo turned legs. The seat is shaped in the style of the Philadelphia Shield and the arms are mortised into the bow to create the effect of a continuous arm. A good example is found in“The Windsor Style in America Volume 1” by Charles Santore on page 128, figure 150. The Philadelphia Shield form seat can be found on page 125, figure 142A. The mortised arm was typical for a Philadelphia Windsor and considered a design flaw by competitive New York and New England chair makers. Their design had a one piece arm and bow. Overall condition is good for its 200 years of age. Over its lifetime ... moreit has had repairs and refinishing. The old finish shows marks, scuffs and small losses. This is the epitome of the old Yankee Adage"USE IT UP. WEAR IT OUT MAKE IT DO. OR DO WITHOUT" This started out life on a coastal Connecticut farm as a very respectable and stylish Windsor Fanback armchair. At some point in the 1800's it moved from the parlor to the barn where with a few purposeful amputations it became the most comfortable seat amongst the stanchions. Ironically. It bear full testimony to the notion of Yankee frugality carried to the extremes, it is remarkably comfortable in its current form and would be a great attention grabber on the beach, by the pool, on your hearth, or tucked in a corner ready for a favorite grand child to visit. The seat measures 12 1.2 inches from the floor. With a total height of 33 1.2 inches, 19 inches wide, by 18 inches deep. Primitive Antique Early Windsor Rocking Chair - Great Primitive
Primitive Antique Windsor Rocker One of my favorite chairs. This is a nice small size Windsor Style rocking chair. Primitive, country style with narrow back spindles, and then an additional row of short spindles across the top of the back. Comfortable curved arms and a solid piece of wood that forms the seat. Narrow, flat sided rockers that fit into slots on the legs. All the pieces are fitted and pegged together, where the rockers fit on the legs, where the handles fit into the back. I do not see any nails. Original finish with appropriate wear and patina. Rocker measures 35" tall to top of back. Seat is 19" wide and the rockers are 24" long. Fine American Windsor Bowback Arm Chair circa 1750-1860 We are offering a very rear and sought after New England Windsor bowback arm chair. The chair is in fine oiled patina. And has some paint, but is worn from most of chair, it is very good condition, no breaks or repairs. The plank seat is a single solid board, carved for comfort and thin channel along the back outlining the gallery of spindles. The steam bent crest rail wraps around the middle nine spindles. Rails and legs show bamboo turnings for great form and shape. The back of the chair has a graceful bow. Carefully grasping each through-tenoned splinted spindle before diving into the solid plank seat. The seat is heavily patina, with deep grooves and wears from decades of active use. The entire chair sits over four splayed bamboo carved legs, all four of which dive into the plank ... moreseat. A wonderful find for those that are passionate about fine 18 th-19 th century Windsor chairs from New England. It has a glowing warm patina and outstanding form. This is soo beautiful and full of detail- the legs and arm supports are turned wood! The seat is cut out not just flat. The spindles are all also shaped. Not just straight! The only problem is the left side is somewhat raised, as you can see in the last picture. It is 13" high, 15" long and 5" deep seat. There is room for 2 dolls to sit side by side. The wood of the seat is unusually sycamore(they are commonly elm) The rest of the chair is in ash. The chair is 25 inches wide. 20 inches deep and 44 inches high. The seat is at 17 inches. Rare country comb back windsor chair primitive in yew wood some repair required
If as a buyer you wish I am happy to meet a courier etc for collection. The comb back windsor chair is 41" high and 22.5 inches wide across the arm rests. My father was a collector of country furniture and I believe this chair is made of yew wood. It was perfect but a berk fell on it and has broken some(4) of the rear upright spindles which I have photographed and I am told can be repaired. Primitive Bamboo Turned Windsor High Chair, 18th/19th C Antique, Orig. Dry Paint
This is a late 18th or early 19th C. bamboo turned windsor high chair in a country or primitive style. The remaining green/blue paint is original and it is almost iridescent. Especially at the turnings. The patina on the arms, seat, and footrest is also very old and about as good as it gets. The chair is 36.5"H, 15.75"W, ~16.5"D, with a ~24" seat height. The chair is quite strong with no significant joinery movement. The top rail was reattached as some point long ago and an old nail can be seen in one of the pictures. It sits almost perfectly flat on the floor. We merely vacuumed this chair with a brush attachment to remove cobwebs and other barn dirt. I believe this chair would add a great deal of visual interest to many rooms, particularly in the kitchen. Please do not hesitate to contact me for questions. We have for sale this lovely antique Victorian childs hoop backed windsor rocking chair. The piece dates to around 1880 and is made of oak and elm. The piece is very well built and stands 71cm/28" tall by 38cm/15" by 51cm/20" at the base. The condition is very good for its age with a small split to the front of the seat and some historic woodworm hole the underneath of the seat. None of the above affects the look or use of the chair.
