Here you have a pair of Windsor Stepback chairs. The construction appears to be pegged. Without nails or screws. The photographs show wear consistent with age and use, but not abuse. Both chairs sturdy enough for use. The rocking chair measures 31.5 inches from the floor to the top of the rail, 26 inches from out side edge of arm to arm, the seat depth is 17 inches, and seat height is 15 inches from the floor. The straight chair is 36 inches high, 26 inches wide, seat depth is 17 inches, and seat height is 18.5 inches from the floor. I can put my hand on my heart and state the chairs are made completely of wood. I have no idea what wood. The chairs are located in the greater Butlerville, Indiana area and must be paid for and picked up within 10 days of auction's end.

A Fine and Fantastic Looking Windsor. Chair is a Sack Back design with the very desirable Knuckle Arms. Purchased upstate New York in the mid 1990's at a grand estate sale. Most likely 1750 to 1780 Connecticut made. I believe it to be of Maple. Birch and Chestnut Wood for the Seat. Seat has old Worm damage that only adds to the character but could be filled in with wax and buffed out. This is one of the best looking 18th century Windsor chairs I have seen. Extremely sturdy. Usable and comfortable as well as collectable.

A very unique maybe one of a kind Connecticut Windsor chair- rare wide center splat- queen anne front legs- rush seat- unique elegant continuous bent arm. 1790 Connecticut Windsor continuous Arm slat back rush seat crook't bun feet chair old varnish has turned black. 36 inches tall 27 1/2 in wide hand to hand. This chair has the most beautiful lines and profile I have seen in these chairs. Very delicate spindles have survived. I have found only a couple of these with the continuous arm and rush seat and they seem to be quite rare based on auction price. Some reglueing- original varnish- no replacements.

Traces of original paint on the underside of the seat of the chair. Nice warm colour. Well worn patina. Simply a superb chair overall. Condition: No breakage or repairs over time. The left stile has been shored up with a screw repair about 40 years ago. The paint has been removed about 40 years ago. And refinished. There is evidence of this on the underside of the crest rail, and seat. The finish has been mellowed over the years. Original seat height. Sturdy to sit in. Dings and wear associated with use. A small antique wooden seven spindle Windsor side chair measuring approximately 29" tall. 17" wide, and about 15" deep. Inscribed on the bottom in white paint is"Geo. Ellicott Ellicotts Mills Born 1760 Died 1832" We do not know whether he was the maker of this chair or the owner. It is in good antique condition, with wear and tear commensurate with age and use- dings and scratches found commonly on antique furniture. There is some damage/loss in particular to the top corners of the chair(please see photos) There are traces of red and white paint and brown stain on the bottom as well, so the surface is not original. The top of the back of the chair can be loosened from the two outermost spindles. There are no major problems. This is a solid chair.LOCAL PICK UP Or you can arrange shipping it yourself. Shipper must be responsible for packing and making sure it's safe. My mother passed away.She purchased this chair along with another that broke during her move quite a few years back. They were purchased about 30 years ago from an antique auction outside of Joplin Missouri. They use to have a rust/burnt orange velvet cushion in the seat. The cushion is long gone. It was thrown away about 5 years ago. I'm assuming this is WINDSOR since this is what I was told. IT is lower to the ground than your average chair.it sits very low in the back and higher in the front. Please let me know if you have questions. I'll be glad to help.
