Crafted during the first years of the 19th Century. It has a wonderful black paint over another layer of reddish orange, probably also a layer over the original and currently unknown color. The back of the chair has a graceful bow, carefully grasping each through-tenoned splinted spindle before diving through the single solid plank pine seat. The seat is heavily patinated, with deep grooves and wear from decades of active use. The entire chair sits over four splayed bamboo carved legs, all four of which tenon through the plank seat before being secured with a splint, each held firmly and perfectly in place with a bamboo carved H-stretcher. This is a most charming chair, in excellent condition with wonderful patina and character throughout- the early painted surfaces are probably not the original layers, but seem to protect earlier layers beneath, these quite possibly the earliest surfaces. A wonderful find for those that are passionate about fine windsor chairs. Measurements: Seat 13.5" wide x 14.5" deep. The seat sits 16" from the ground and the back of the seat is 33.5" high. Condition Report: Paint worn throughout. Probably not the original surfaces. Deep groves and losses in the plank seat. Chips and abrasions throughout. One nail, appears to be modern, on side of chair stabalizing hoop back. Plank seat split with a butterfly joint securing seat from beneath and two screws locking it in place. Chair is structurally strong, but could possibly be too weak to use functionally as a chair. Please review the images in the slideshow for a full overview of condition.

antique mission style desk "arts and crafts" furniture stickley/craftsman style
This is a gorgeous. Obviously very very old mission style desk. It does not have a brand name on it that I've detected; however, the quality of the wood is obviously that of 100 year old wood in my opinion. It does have a little ding on one side of the top, as evident in the picture of its top. I am not able to ship something this big, 29 1/2" by 49 1/2" and is 30" tall. But if you buy it and come to pick it up and don't like it, I'll return your money. However, once you take it with you, I will no longer refund.

Up for auction is this neat little book titled Stickley Cherry Valley Furniture. A Living American Tradition. The catalog of Stickley furniture was published by L. J. G. Stickley, Inc. Fayetteville, N.Y. in 1954. The following history of the Stickley Company comes from the company’s web site: Our story began with three words: Als Ik Kan—to the best of my ability. This old Flemish craftsman's phrase has been the guiding principle of Stickley. Gustav Stickley marked his product with the phrase to assure customers that Stickley furniture was of the finest quality. Every piece made with honor, integrity, and pride. The Stickley brothers burst into international prominence in the early 20th century with their Mission Oak designs. These were based on the notion that furniture should be"honest"a reaction against the fake joinery. Unnecessary ... moregaudiness, and shoddy workmanship of many of the pieces created in the early days of industrial furniture making. The Stickleys used solid construction. What-you-see-is-what-you-get joinery, and the highest quality woods. But even more, they showed a genius for design, creating hundreds of new forms that were at once beautiful to look upon, practical to use, exceedingly strong and long-lasting, and perfect for the new ways American families wanted to live. This original catalog measures about 14" x 11" and consists of 81 pages loaded with photogravures of dozens and dozens of pieces of Stickley Brothers furniture. The styles are not what is usually considered"Mission or Craftsmen" Rather a more Colonial or conservative direction.certainly important and successfully marketed in the 20's to the 30's. The large size catalog has been waterstained during its lifetime. This soiling apparent throughout largely on the lower half of pages. There are no paper losses, no notations, and the soiling does not prevent one from studying the pictures of the furniture. There are a couple of pages slightly chipped, but otherwise the only true defect is the waterstaining, which does not prevent it from being a useful research tool. Check out my! Manufactured by Stickley Bros. Co. around 1924. This is a rare example of the work of their Japanese artisans who introduced black lacquering to the Stickley Quaint American Furniture line. The desk measures 30 inches high, 30 inches wide and 18 inches deep. The drawer is 2.5 inches deep. No attempt has been made to refinish or restore.

The table measures app. 12 1/4" by 8 1/2" by 8" The chairs measure app. 12 1/2" by 6 3/4" by 7 1/2" Not sure if was a salesman sample or child's play set.
