It has four drawers on one side of the interior and a closet ... moreto hang clothing on the other half. All four drawers have been restored. And lined with vintage magazine ad clippings to show the different eras. The wardrobe side is lined with world maps and also original newspaper clippings from the year 1942 showing classified ads for that era. The exterior has been stripped to the original wood then sanded and stained with varnish for a glossy finish. It is partially lined on the exterior with cowhide. A steamer trunk is a type of luggage which takes the shape of a large rugged trunk with a flat top. These trunks were built for long trips. Specifically on steam trains and boats; the flat top makes a steamer trunk easier to handle and stack. Many people continue to use steamer trunks for travel and shipping today, and some people also keep a steamer trunk around the house for use as a storage chest. Steamer trunks are often found in vintage stores in varying conditions, and some companies also manufacture steamer trunks which can be purchased new from specialty luggage suppliers. The body of the steamer trunk is made from thick wood and metal. And it is strapped with metal and leather bands to ensure that it is extremely sturdy. A frame of metal is enclosed inside the steamer trunk so that it can endure heavy impacts and the weight of luggage stacked on top of it. The inside of this steamer trunk is lined with paper, and a decorative map design is used on the lining. The exterior of the trunk is lined with highly decorative embossed metal. No Keys. Antique ca.1890 Ladies Half Steamer Trunk
This is an Antique ca.1890 Ladies trunk. Sometimes called a half trunk. It is 20"x 15"x 20" high and weighs 24 lbs. It is solid pine with wide oak slats. The original canvas has been repainted dark forest green. All of the hardwear is original. The key has been lost. The leather handles have been replaced. The interior has been cleaned and finished and includes the original large removable pine tray. Look carefully at the photos. No returns. It will be shipped to you via UPS after your payment clears using PayPal only.

Beautiful Refinished Antique Jenny Lind Style Trunk With Straps. Working Lock& Key, and Interior Tray Here is a really beautiful completely refinished Jenny Lind steamer trunk or travel chest from the mid 1800's and it is signed on the bottom in painted calligraphy with black paint of the owner's name and the county in Pennsylvania that he lived. Take a look at the picture of the bottom and you will see this beautiful signature. We think it is"James Selle" or something like that and it says. Mifflintown Juniata County" which is about 1 1/2 hours from our house and it is where we purchased this trunk to refinish. It is kind of neat to know who probably originally owned this trunk about 150 years ago. Anyhow, here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 26 inches, from floor to top is ... moreapproximately 16 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 15 1/4 inches. This is a Jenny Lind trunk as we have mentioned before in other ads. These Jenny Linds came about because of the opera singer from Europe. She traveled overseas to come to America to perform and she had beautiful trunks to carry her luggage in. The American trunk makers noticed the beautiful style and started making trunks with that look here in America for customers. It is the slice of bread shape on the side where the top angles in along with the base angling in towards the top. Also it has the metal banding with the decorative buttons or rosettes. These are notorious for the Jenny Lind style. The trunk dates back to somewhere around 1860 or so. The wood is in very nice condition. It has been finished with three coats of polyurethane to preserve it and give it a nice appearance. A lot of times, there is a big crack or gap going across the top on these older trunks because of wood shrinkage. This one only has a small hairline stress crack on the top which is very common on older trunks that we refinish. Nice Refinished Antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles. Interior Divided Tray, and Working Lock& Key Here we have a nice. Clean refinished flat top steamer trunk from around 1900 or so. This one is a true flat top with no factory arch. Here are the following dimensions: from left to right across the front is 36 1/2 inches. From floor to top is 24 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 21 inches. This trunk appears to be made up of pine base wood with poplar or ash outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. The wood is in pretty good condition with some typical older distress marks which include older nicks and dings concentrated on to the outer slat boards along with some hairline stress cracks. Just about all of the trunks that we refinish have these similar markings. ... moreThis beautiful trunk comes with the original signed working lock. It is signed, Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn U.S.A. We have matched up a key that does work properly with this lock. This one originally had leather straps with buckles. They were eroded away, so we have run a nice pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top in the very same location where the original ones once were. These straps are functional and when buckled, they help secure the top of the trunk to it's base in addition to the lock and front latches. The front latches are in working condition and are original. The side handles have also been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass and have therefore been brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. Going to the inside of the trunk. It comes with the original divided tray. We have replaced the bottom of the tray with a wooden bottom to make it sturdy. We have removed the interior paper lining from the interior and tray since it was worn out. This trunk is an antique, it is solid wood covered with the original canvas, strapped with solid wood horizontal strips for structure, edged with fancy heavy iron trims. The original clasp on either side of the front and lock are in place and work well. We were lucky to find two keys for the lock so you can hide your goodies. This is a salesman's sample. Child's or doll sized steamer trunk. I believe the Corbin lock was made between 1890-1905, so I suspect the trunk is about that age as well. The trunk and hardware are the same quality as a full-sized steamer trunk. Consequently, it is strong and sturdy for its size. The trunk is 20.25"W, 12.75"H, and 11"D. The leather side handles are gone, and there are losses to the leather trim and green coloration. I also believe there used to be a tray that fit in the interior. Additionally, the key is missing so the center latch does not operate. These keys can be replaced with the lock's information. The interior appears quite clean. Up for bid is a wonderful vintage salesman sample steamertrunk. A piece of true history. The trunk was crafted by The Rose TrunkCompany of Atchinson. Kansas established 1884. The length is 16 inches. Width is 8.5 inches and 10 inches tall. The condition is what you would expect for an item over 100years old. In my opinion GREAT! The trunk does have a missing strap on theinside right side as shown in pictures it is also missing a leather handle onthe right side. The shelf inside is intact. Thank you. A Ladycomet Refinished Dome Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Key and Tray
Nice Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock With Key and Interior Tray Here is a lovely refinished dome top or arch top steamer trunk or travel trunk from the late 1800's to around 1900. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 24 1/4 inches. From floor to top is approximately 14 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 14 inches. We removed some of the metal from between the slat boards to expose the wood underneath. The trunk appears t be made up of poplar base wood which are rough cut boards. These boards show the saw blade marks from the saw mill since they were not planed down to a smooth texture. The outer slat boards appear to be oak or ash. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to preserve the wood. This one was missing the lock when we ... morereceived it and we have given it an older replacement lock which is signed. It says, Eagle Lock Co Terryville Conn U.S.A. This replacement lock comes with the proper key and does work correctly. A lot of doll collectors and collectors of coins and Civil War items have purchased this smaller sized trunk to store their collectible items inside. If you have a teddy bear or doll collection, you can display those items in and on the trunk with the lid in the open position. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. We do obtain all of our leather products for these trunks from an Amish man in an Amish community near our home here in Pennsylvania. The front latches are original and do work properly and they have been remounted with screws. There has been a couple of areas of metal patchwork done on this trunk. One area is at the top left side of the lid. A piece of metal was missing and we have put in a piece to cover this area. A close up picture of this area has been shown. Antique Small Dome Top Hump Back Steamer Trunk w/ Tray Embossed Tin& Wood Description: Up for sale is this great old small sized Dome top or Hump Back trunk! This trunk measures 24 1/4" x 14 x about 17" tall. As you can see from the photos on the left this trunk has been painted sometime in its past. The bottom tin is black in color with four embedded wheels near the corners. This leads us to believe that the original color of the tin on this trunk was black. You can see in the closeup that this trunk is covered with an embossed floral patterned tin covering held in place with wood straps with very ornate angle pieces at the corners. This trunk has 2 latches and one hasp type lock. Unfortunately the key for this lock is long gone. The hasps both close snugly but appear to be a little fragile. At one time there were leather handles ... moreon either side of this great old trunk. One side still has a little of the handle left. But the other sides handle is gone. The inside of the trunk is natural wood without any covering. The tray still feels pretty solid. There is one knot hole in a side as shown in the photo and most of the original paper covering is still in place. Antique Dome Top Wooden Steamer Trunk- 1800s- Local Pick Up You are looking at a dome top wooden steamer trunk from the 1800s. This trunk has definitely been used. And it is in its original condition. It comes with 4 original(3 currently installed) casters on the bottom. I have included a pic of the bottom showing all 4 casters. As you can see by the pic, the top right caster is detached due to wood loss. The term"original condition" also includes the following: One of the side carrying straps is missing. The lower section of the left hinge for the lid has become detached(see pic) The wood slat second in from the right has suffered a split at the peak of the dome(see pic) There is no key. Mandel Bros Wardrobe Steamer Trunk 1930’s( Chicago History or Your Future Equipment Case One side of this cool trunk flips up and has metal arms which extend to get at hanging clothes. The original wood hangers are still present. The other side has four pull-out drawers. Dimensions are roughly 22’ x 22” x 41’ I’d guess the weight at 80-90 lbs. Obviously this was designed as a travelling closet and was built to take a beating. Mandel Bros was one of the leading Chicago department stores from the mid-1800’s to the 1970’s. The trunk shows the expected scuffs and dings but is structurally solid. The vintage wear just adds to its rustic charm. The exterior is black. Though it looks lighter in some of the pictures. The lock has been popped and bent so is currently non-functional(and there is no key) but the trunk still securely latches shut. OLD antique Steamer Trunk Wooden Trim luggage suitcase HAMBURG AMERICAN LINES
You are bidding to purchase an amazing primitive antique steamer trunk that is unmarked. But reminds me of the Louis Vuitton ones. And covered with a textured substance that reminds me of leather. But I’m not sure that’s what it is. I appreciate any information you can provide about this well-traveled piece of history. It is wooden and has rounded corners and measures approximately 33 x 21 x 13 inches and has leather strap handles on the ends for easy carrying. One end of the strap is secured to the trunk and the other end will slide back and forth to a metal stop so that the leather handle will lay flat when not in use and pulls out for a comfortable grip when moving it. This case features a rounded wooden trim with metal(possibly brass) guards on the corners. It has 3 metal hinges to hold the lid in place and a metal trim band around the ... morelid and along the front side corners. There are several labels or stickers on this case. Some of them read: On the right end: HAMBURG-AMEWRIKA LINIE D. DEUTSCHLAND(I believe this is the Hamburg-American lines) Another one also reads HAMBURG AMERIKA LINIE A third one on that end is worn but is also from Hamburg America Line(per the logo) A forth one on that end says OBERSEE-GEPACK-NR. With a number that looks like it may be 23803 followed by S. DEUTSCHLAND HAMBURG-AMERIKA LINIE(THE LAST LINE HAS BEEN WORN AND IS MOSTLY ILLEGIBLE) The white label on the other end has a number 9. And the text is illegible but looks like it might also say Hamburg. The label on the lid is the amazing oval paper orange label that has a steam boat on the upper portion of the label. Just above the logo HAMBURG-AMERIKA LINIE and at the bottom of the white square it says NEW YORK and has a place for name, vessel and date. The outer area has text and says PRINTED IN GERMANY. The name written in ink is faint and I cannot determine the name– it looks like ANN… and the last name looks like it starts with an H. I cannot tell the name of the vessel or the date. Antique Flat- Top Steamer Trunk Size: 31" x 17" x 13-1/4" All corners. Trim pieces, latches, hinges, fasteners are intact Missing the right side leather handle. And there is no insert/tray There is no key for the lock. Lock information: YALE& TOWNE Mfg. Co, Stamford, Conn, USA# B54- lock is circa 1890's to 1920's- I am not sure of the material of the trunk. It appears to be a wood/fiber type material with all corners& trim being brass or metal. This trunk needs some major TLC, but could be beautiful once restored; the starting price reflects this. VTG Antique Old FANCY Cast Metal Chest Steamer Trunk Lock Latch Hardware Parts
This is a really neat heavy cast metal lock/latch which I believe came off a very old steamer trunk of sorts. It's in good used vintage condition with some surface wear and tarnish and I believe a tiny crack by the bottom bolt that you can't see from the front and doesn't seem to affect its use whatsoever.please view pictures for any further description/condition. It measures just under 5 5/8" tall x 3" wide in the locked latched position. Don't forget to take a look at all my other unique vintage hardware I have listed as well.
