It has claw front feet and is in very good condition, however, it does have ... moresome light surface scratches and general wear that are typical of a piece that probably dates to the early 19th century, although I cannot be completly sure of its age. It has lovely carved accents and trim. The key is intact with it and the little side supports come out automatically when the front writing desk surface is lowered. Someone has unfortunately drilled a hole in the back that is about 2" in diameter. The desk has 4 drawers with all of the original knobs intact. It stands 41" tall at the trim at the back, 40" tall at the top, is 41" wide at the feet, 37" wide at the top, and is a total of 22" deep at the bottom, and 19" deep at the top.

The width is 19 inches and the height is 56 1/2 inches. I recently got married and my wife and I are moving and my wife is unfortunately is decorating the house so I have to sell this. Welcome! I am proud to be offering for your consideration this antique mahogany secretary desk or Gov.Wintrop circa 1940s. This big old secretary was found in the basement of an old home here in NH. It does have a few tell tale features caused by the damp concrete that we want to declare. Even though they are no longer really an issue. The very bottom of the backboard has rippled plywood(see photo) when placed against the wall you will not see at all, and the very bottoms of the veneered sides were lifting and have been reglued. Because of this we are listing this secretary for about half its value. The secretary has original finish, original brass hardware. It has a really nice 8 1/2" tall turned finial on top of the traditional'broken arch' top. It has two fixed shelves in the bookcase top behind glass doors with original fret ... morework over the glass. It has a big mechanical lid or writing surface in good condition but for a tiny veneer chip(no cracks) The interior of the desk is serpentine shaped with 5 drawers, a doored compartment and two'secret' vertical drawers. The secretary drawers have serpentine fronts, are all dovetailed and in good shape. This piece has three Maddox labels, one brass and two paper. It is a two piece secretary for easy moving. English Regency Mahogany Antique Chiffonier[Secretary Desk. Bookcase] First quarter of the 19th Century In excellent well preserved condition Item# 130004OTY21 This is a very fine English Regency Chiffonier crafted during the first half of the 19th Century. Formed of dense well figured mahogany. The profile is square and strict, a piece delivering an almost intimidating stocky presence. The diminutive stature of the bookcase is typical of the Chiffonier, three graduated levels of shelving with triple-beaded edge moldings of the solid, the gallery joined with exposed dovetails along the side and the case joined with dovetails at the bottom. Two original hand filed steel screws still secure the bookcase to the lower case. Flipping over original hand cast brass hinges. The top of the case rests on two square lopers to reveal a flat gilt-tooled ... moreleather writing surface. A small tab at the back of this surface allows the back of the desk to rise and reveal a small compartment beneath the writing surface. This desk portion locks, protecting papers and valuables inside with ease. The two doors completing the lower area of the case feature replaced pleated fabric. These opening over original hinges and hardware to reveal a shelved interior(two replaced shelves) with a deep space. The case rests over original lion paw feet, these executed with utmost precision- even the backs of the feet, areas that would almost never be seen, are finished carefully with highly detailed carving throughout. For anyone passionate about English antique furniture. This is a very fine acquisition. Functional and a very useful piece, it makes a wonderful desk, bookcase, entertainment center and console table. This is a form that is easily incorporated into the home, every aspect of it preserved carefully to remain in excellent overall condition. After serving as state comptroller of Connecticut from 1788–90, he was named auditor of the federal treasury, and became Comptroller of the Treasury in 1791.
