Condition: Used Location: Novato, United States I am not an expert but an antique furniture appraiser looked at this piece recently and stated this is a unique desk that he's never seen one quite ... morelike it. It was likely made in the early 1900's. Made of oak. And has a spooncarved front. There are no identifying markings. It is in excellent shape and it has the original finish. Brass fittings show a bit of tarnish but should clean up easily with a little TLC. Three of the posts on the brass rail at the top are loose but can be easily secured with a little bit of attention. One of the rail ends is stripped so that will need to be secured as well. Otherwise this piece is ready for your home. I would be happy to provide more detailed photos if requested. I hate to part with such a beautiful and unique item but we no longer have the room and it just doesn't fit our decor. The dimensions are 40 1/2” tall its tallest point. 33 1/2“ wide at its widest point at the base, and 19” deep when closed,and 34“ deep when opened. Local pickup only.

Circa 1875. This absolutely magnificent piece is made out of beautiful walnut and Carpathian elm burl; the wood is just gorgeous. One will first notice the width to height ratio is very symmetrical. This piece is taller than most.The Roman arched doors below and above bring both parts together in flowing harmony unlike similar secretaries that have drawers below or worse a door and drawers. The Carpathian elm burl panels lend nice contrast to the darker walnut surrounding. The wavy glass is original to the piece as is the finish which has been waxed to a mellow sheen. The cylinder roll moves good ... moreand upon opening has a pull out writing slide with original surface. The fitted interior has small drawers and several open slots. The bookcase has original shelves that are adjustable in position. There are minor restorations that are not obvious however one panel on the left door below has trim that has very slightly misaligned over rime. A pencil signature underneath the bookcase top says SCHULTZ in old writing of the period. This is a better designed cylinder roll top desk than most and definitely points to a quality cabinet maker of Philadelphia or New York origin. Dimensions: 96" tall. 46" wide, 24" deep. Normal 0 1800's hand carved walnut postal desk This walnut postal or secretary desk was hand made in Martinsburg West Virginia for a prominent merchant in Alexandria Virginia. It has been kept in excellent condition. There are 4 2 pigeon hol es and one large slot for magazines or othe r larger items. There is also a mail slot in the middle with a built in letter holder. The desk top is larger than your typical secretary desk. There is some cracking on the rim of the desk that would also be con sidered the inside of the top rim when the desk is closed. It does not go all the way through and can not be seen from the outside. The drawer pulls are original carved wood. The finish is original with a nice warm patina. When he was serving as the Secretary of State. This letter is written to a personal friend. Roger Scaife(1875-1951) who was at that time the Director of Harvard University Press. As described in the letter. Marshall had visited with Scaife a few days earlier on a quick trip to Massachusetts with his wife. And Scaife had sent a book on the history of Harvard to Marshall. With a rich complexion and a striking grain. Satinwood string inlays and flame mahogany crossbanding adorn the fall, providing a lovely contrast. ... moreEach drawer features hand-cut dovetails and solid brass pulls. The brass escutcheons, while quite attractive, no longer house functioning locks. Each side has developed a separation in the mahogany as part of the wood's natural aging process; these age separations are purely cosmetic and don't affect the structural integrity of the piece. During a past restoration, a line of black stain was applied to these separations to complement the actual dark inlay around the bottom. The fall has also become uneven over the years and has sustained some wear to the corners but remains, like the rest of this piece, very sturdy. Finally there are a number of minor wear marks and the back feet were also replaced during the restoration. Overall this antique bureau remains in very good condition and would make a fine addition to any home or office furniture collection! This gorgeous mahogany bureau was hand-crafted in Victorian England around the year 1860. This bureau contains plenty of storage space. The sides look great. Georgian Antique 1750-1760 Oak Secretary Desk / Bureau
18th Century Georgian Country Oak banded with Mahogany English 1750-1760 Slant Top Secretary AUTHENTIC! not a Repoduction! Country of Orgin: England. Purchased in 1988 while living in the UK at Antique Dealer in Great Missenden, Buckenhamshire. Have reciept and document of authenticy. AGE: circa 1750- 1760 Georgian Maker: British(could be England. Wales, or Scottland) Style: Slant Front/ Bureau style with three over three large drawers. Unlike other slant ront desks of this era the writting/ front drops down and rests on outside drawers. It does not have pull out blade rails that support the writting surface the pulled out top drawers accomplish that. It has a fitted writting surface of genuine leather( this was a refurbishment some time in the mid 1980's) There are small drawers and cubby holes within and even secret compartments. All ... morebrass hardware is intact however one drawer handle is loose. Bonus hidden cartonnier featuring a well. The cavity beneath a sliding panel, directly behind the writting surface behind the closed doors. Another hidden drawer is behind the closed doors as well. Bracket feet are solid and level. It has miscellanous mars, dings, scratches, wear, shrinkage and separation due to age and use but it all adds to the rich patina of age. It does need a small amount of repair to the mahogany banding on the left front. I don't think this secretary has ever been fully restored. It was a real workhorse at a working country manor house/ estate. Definatly shows some patching and mending from the many years of it's long life. Antique Childs Desk & Chair Art Deco Ealy Century Maple 1900-1940 Secretary Desk
Here is a beautiful child's desk& chair set. Somewhere between 1900& 1940. This is a small version of the larger ones made then. Picture#8 shows some letters& words that I cannot seem to make out. Of what was probably the manufactor. It has the original stain, which has not even been attempted to re-finish. Some think that would ruin this set. Children have definitely used it, for the wear you see, but it is solid and sturdy, and has lots of wear left in it. There are three drawers on the right side, and the top one locks. you may be able to find a key for this, or ask a locksmith to make one. Above the top drawer that locks is a little slide-out board for writing on. There is a large center long drawer too. The chair swivels, and has cast iron framing, with an adjusting center screwing device which allows for the chair height ... moreto be as low to the floor as 14 inches, up to 16 inches, easily, and taller if need be, but it gets a little wabbly after that, because it is only connecting with one cylinder. At it's taller setting, the chair is 29 inches tall, from top of back to floor. The seat is 12 5/8" wide and 12 3/4" deep. This is extremely well made, and sure belongs in someone's home with a child who will enjoy and use it. The desk measure 29 inches tall, and is 33 1/2 inches wide and 18 inches deep.

This is an exquisitely detailed silver-plated secretary(notepad container) made by the Danish silversmith. E. Dragsted. I bought it an an estate sale in NYC of a wealthy 95-year-old woman- I have no idea how old it is, but I highly doubt they've made anything like this for many decades. The front is a heavy, silver-plated embossed cover, with a detailed relief of a group of 18th-century peasants drinking, singing, and playing instruments around a barrel in a farmyard. In the background is a house, arbor, tree, barn, clouds, fence, bushes. In the foreground are little tufts of grass, a dog, and various farm implements. The workmanship is superb. A renowned Minister to France, Govenor of New York, the founder of a financial empire and so powerful that it backed the Federal Government during the Civil War, and a major influence on U.S. late 19th Centruy international relations. This rare Bureau Bookcase come to Ozarks from a prominent Chicago estate. Its elegant and unusual construction, the exceptionally fine craftsmanship of molders, joiners, turners and carvers of Steven and Son of Halifax, Nova Scotia,Canada. It has borne witness to great historical events and resided in our Nation's power centers for almost a century. Handsomely crafted from solid walnut and ... moreadorned with burl walmut applied trim, hand carved escutcheons and drawer pulls,it bears an original rich patina earned in a centruy passed. The massive molded pediment of classic architectural formis toped with a deeply carved acanthus leaf crest. The bureau bookcases's design features a broad slant-front secretary and three wide, bur ltrimmed drawers, the bookcases's shelf system employes an unusual adjustment feature introduced early in the 19th Century. An Impressive height of 102 inches with a width of 40 1/2 inches. Provenance: The Bureau Bookcase was originally the property of Levi Parson Morton(1824-1920) from 1850 to 1920. Morton organized the Levi P. Morton and Co. in Boston and New York in 1863. In 1869 the firm became Morton. Bliss and Co. and began extensive international operatios the same year when Sir John Rose joined it and opened a London office know as Morton,Rlose and Co. 1952 Russell of Broadway secretary desk and bookcase in unrestored condition. Recently acquired but don't have the proper space for it. Contact me for more photos or information on the piece. Sir(Sydney) Gordon Russell(1892-1982) was one of the most important figures in the history of 20th century furniture. From his early Cotswold Arts and Crafts furniture. To the modernist antique desks of the post-war period, he managed to embrace mass production and mechanization without losing the underlying concepts of high quality craftsmanship. The history of his antique cabinets, tables, chairs and concept furniture can be tracked at the Gordon Russell Museum, housed in his original workshop premises in Worcestershire. In 1923 Russell expanded the business and invested in modern machinery. His aim was to combine Arts and Crafts workmanship with ... moremass-production to produce high quality furniture affordable to everyone. This ranged from homely dining tables to elaborate antique marquetry furniture. Such as the 1925 print cabinet now residing in the Cheltenham Museum. In 1938 Russell set up the Good Furnishing Group. Promoting the retailing of high-quality, mass produced furniture. During the war he spearheaded the government’s utility furniture scheme, and in the post-war years took posts leading to directorship of the Design Centre. He played a leading role in the Festival of Britain in 1951, and was knighted in1955. He retired to the Cotswolds in 1958, but remained closely connected with his company until his death.
