This is a nice Borge Morgensen bookcase/ secretary. It is structurally sound and does not have water or moisture damage. But does have some scratches and chipping in the veneer. Especially around the bottom edge. It has its original finish and is presentable though I think it can use a new finish and a bit of repair work on the veneer chips. This piece stands 72" tall. Chinese Secretary Desk with Raised hand carved figures of beautiful ladies and hand painted background. Very Unique Looking. My friend's parents brought this and other hand carved items from a trip they took in the late 50s early 60s to the far east including Taiwan. We don't know much more detail about it except that her mom said they watched the craftsmen carve the figures and paint these details on the desk. The desk is made of teak and needs ome TLC. The faces of the lovely ladies are made of some type of bone. We are guessing it might be ivory but not sure. Hello and thank you f or viewing our listing for. Wallmounted Secretary Desk/Chalkboard This listing is for a previously owned Valentine-Glascock Co Wallmounted Secretary Desk/Chalkboard. This item is in need of serious restoration. The board sticking up at the top of the cabinet has a couple of cracks in it. The back board of the cabinet is no longer attached. This board seems to be some sort of cardboard and it is brittle and breaks apart. There are some holes in the board as well. This can be seen behind and amongst the shelves. The straps that hold the desk piece horizontal are broken. One is broken where it would join the desk. The other is cut in the middle. The chalkboard on the face of the cabinet, when closed, has cracks running over most of the surface. The scrolls are Boy Scout related. They seem fragile with bits and pieces of ... moreseveral different scrolls, because of the condition of what can be seen and the pieces we are not going to try to unroll the scrolls that are loaded in the frame. One of the fragments of a scroll is copyrighted Valentine-Glascock Co with the year 1918. The frame is 29 inches tall and 23 inches wide. It would sit 2 1/2 inches out from the wall. There is an eye hook on each side with a wire running between them to hang the cabinet. I have done my best to describe the condition of this piece. It has two scrolls for paper, a fold down desk, mail/letter slots and a drawer. It measures 40 1/2" high, 19 1/2" to the bottom of the desk and 20 1/4" wide. Some of the wood is peeling in the back and it looks as the screws for the hinges for the desk have been replaces, both of these imperfections are pictured. Dolphin feet, and drawer pulls. It measures about 32 inches(81.28 cm) tall by 25.2 inches(64 cm) wide by 16 inches(40.64 cm) deep. It weighs over 41 pounds(18.6 Kg) by itself. Without any packing materials. It features two pull out drawers with wavy. Curved fronts, plus a slide out pull out leather topped writing desk platform that also can be taken completely out. The drawers are all dove tailed joined indicating earlier era construction and show aged wood inside. There is magnificent marquetry pinstripe bordering very finely ... moreinset wood pieces that are only found on the more exceptionally crafted pieces. Here's what I stated about this gorgeous cabinet's condition: One wood split crack and chip of inlaid veneer marquetry on front middle of bottom drawer. The drawers have some resistance when pulling out. But the can be pulled out completely and fairly easily, but just have some snug fit little tug drag to them, as does the slide out writing desk platform, but not at all a problem and just not real easy and loose pulling out. And unique spiral full columns flanking the drawers at the base Circa 1830's. This fine 19th century piece has its original wavy glass and original hardware with all the locks intact but the key just aids in opening the doors at the top and doesn't work the locks. This secretary desk does separate into two pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving. This secretary measures 76 1/2 inches tall.41 3/4 inches wide,24 inches deep at the base, 13 inches deep at the bookcase portion top and weighs approximately 150 lbs. The fold out writing surface measures 41 3/4 inches ... morewide by 19 inches deep and is 34 1/2 inches in height to the floor. This Empire desk early hand-cut dovetail joinery on the drawer ends and lovely crotch mahogany on the drawer fronts and doors and rests on four large bun feet. The original opalescent glass knobs are just gorgeous and sets of the uniqueness of this wonderful 19th century piece. This secretary is solid and tight. The drawers open and close smoothly. This piece does show some veneer chips and some areas where the veneer has been patched with newer veneer. This is very common in period Empire pieces of this age along with some slight age shrinkage cracks in the veneer. This does affect the functionality or integrity of this fine piece at all, please enlarge and examine the pictures for better detail. The green felt on the writing surface does show wear. Please realize this piece is approximately 180 years old therefore does show signs of usage and wear and is not perfect but is still a fabulous piece with a beautiful presence and a very functional piece of 19th century furniture. Carved Oak 1895 Secretary Desk. Lion, Figures, Secret Compartment. Hand carved of solid oak in France about 1895. A spectacular secretary desk has three dimensional Renaissance sculptures of figures, a lion head, griffins, fruit and representations of music and the arts on lower door panels. The original finish is extremely well preserved with warm antique patina. Waxed and buffed. It needs only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth to maintain its glowing luster. A key in the drop front unlocks the upper drawer as well. Inside is a natural saddle leather writing surface plus a maple interior with tiny drawers and cubicles for papers plus a secret panel above. The original release mechanism is lost. Today a finger hole allows the magnet-held panel to pop out. Inside are two drawers for valuables. GRIFFINS! Carved Secretary Desk Door Gothic Victorian Furniture Pediment HORNER?
One of the nicest panels I have ever sold! May have been made by the famous furniture maker R.J. Horner. But not certain. Circa, 100+ years old. Wood appears to be walnut. It has a wonderfully framed, bevelled, center recessed panel. Inside has dramatically 3 dimensional carvings. Middle head appears to be a roaring lion with mythical griffins to the left and right. If that wasn't enough, the outside border is also elaborately detailed. Great rich patina. Some outside border wear, but wonderful overall condition. This is an absolutely SHOWSTOPPER of a piece. Here is one of the most magnificent Chinese Cabinets secretaries desk that I have ever seen in person with gorgeously grained and colored solid rosewoods and secondary woods and fantastic scenes meant for scholars and scribes. There are two opposing brass plates with the Ming dynasty emblem on them on each side front of this breathtaking and gorgeous cabinet. It measures 52 inches tall by 32.5 inches wide by 14 inches deep with the fold down table top not folded out but closed up. It weighs at least 100 pounds. It features old style brasses with floral and bee engravings and delightful lucky ... moreturtle brass pulls for the slide out arm supports for the desk top and also on the interior brass door. There is a hidden secret compartment for additional storage when you lift out the interior desk table top from its two brass pull connectors. The drawers are all very deep and allow for abundant storage and there are several fish locks with tasseled keys included. There is also an interesting tasseled metal latch with which to use to snag the brass supports on the bottom double door shelves to use as a handle support to open them which would otherwise be a little more difficult to do. Here's what I stated about this spectacular cabinet's condition: Locking brass latch is missing from top of desk for fold down rosewood writing table to lock it in place. But it is made to stay in place securely without having to be locked in place. Bottom boards for side board feet have some wood missing in small spots but sideboard feet are attached securely and are very solid stable and secure.
