Three Leg Victorian Piano/Organ Stool. Good solid condition. All parts are made of ornamentally carved hardwood, perhaps mahogany, which is the color of the finished wooden parts, The padded seat adjusts from 20" to 22.5" in height. The padded seat is 15" x 15" The upholstery fabric(gold) is spotted in a few places and a final owner would probably want to replace it. The seat is very comfortable; the padding under the cover feels intact and in good shape. Most people could sit on this for long periods of time without discomfort. Wood cracks: see picture#4] The underside platform(the bottom) of the seat has a longitudinal crack which can be glued or supported with minor screws or other metal straps. 1890 piano/organ stool w/ ornate glass ball feet. 38" tall -
This was a hard item to photograph. But with all of them you can get a sense of the overall condition of a well-constructed high-backed organ stool that works well, and whose appearance is excellent. The back is not as ornate as some you may see being offered- it's rather plain, but the legs and feet of the stool are real works of the carver's efforts. The back tops out at 38" from the floor. The widest part of the top is 12.5" and the seat is bare wood and is 13.5" in diameter. The seat spins to raise itself from 20" to 22.5" from the floor. If there are areas of this stool you'd like to see in greater detail. Please advise. Shipping is relatively costly. But the final product will lend a real touch of vintage wood working to your instrument. Please not the color of the wood finish so it will compliment ... morethat of the instrument.the wood tone finish is very dark, but you can certainly see the grain in some of the pictures. This is a beautiful stool. Except for the damage: The grain is great and the color is still quite rich although there is wear to the finish in places. Particularly to the seat; I'm not sure if this has ever been refinished. I purchased it with the thought of repairing it but we're moving next year and I need to clear out my projects. The center column is missing half; also missing is the rod that would have fed down through the column. The ball bearing parts are missing too. If a person was going to use the seat there are a couple of places that may or may not want filling in. And also there is some sort of hard, dried substance on it. The legs are loose so this could not/should not bear weight in its present condition. The legs appear to be without cracks but consider this stool to be for parts or repair as it has extensive damage ... moreand I may miss mentioning something. The four metal bird-like claw feet are in excellent condition with a beautiful patina and great detail; there is some rust present. The glass balls are all present. Overall they are in good condition and look great when the stool is in proper position. However. One has a very shallow chip and another has its back side broke off in a peculiarly flat, smooth fashion so maybe it's a production flaw. The screws look to be original. The iron plate on the underside of the seat reads HOLTZMAN& SONS COLUMBUS O. I'm not sure of the age of this stool but Holtzman was in operation from the 1860's to 1959 and remained family-owned for the duration. I believe. This looks to be from its earlier decades. It has a patent date stamped underneath of June 18, 08. I will be offering a choice between standard and priority shipping so make sure you compare costs at checkout. Seat adjusts from a low 19" to a height of 23" Seat diameter is 14" There are many coats of finish on the stool- so many that I am not sure what type of wood this is- the grain on the underside of the seat looks like walnut. The top section of the seat shows two narrow separations where the boards were laminated caused by wood shrinkage over the past 150 or so years, one of the crystal glass balls has a chip out. Very sturdy- very Victorian. A great side table or plant stand too. Constructed out of beautiful solid walnut the piano stool features a decorative incised band around its circular adjustable height seat. A lovely turned and fluted center column, turned and fluted spreaders, and legs, and glass ball with brass finished metal claw feet that support the piano stool with much elegance and add just the right finishing touch. Antique Victorian Cast Iron Piano/Organ Stool-REDUCED
Victorian black cast iron three-legged swivel screw type piano/organ stool. Round seat measures 13-1/2" across. With the seat screwed down to its lowest position. It measures 18" tall; photo#5 shows the seat extended to 23" tall. Screws up and down easily. Overall condition of the base is very good; it looks like the mounting bracket was moved at some point, because there are additional holes in the bottom of the seat[see next to last photo] Also looks like some black paint was added to the base in a few spots. The original faille upholstery and gold ribbon braid has stains and several tears, but can be replaced. The stool could also be converted to a small table by adding a different top if desired. Similar stools have been listed for up to over $350, and the same base alone has been listed at $85. Victorian Tonk Chicago Piano Stool 1900s blck and gld enam.legs oak seat America
Up for auction is this lovely Victorian Tonk Chicago Piano Stool. It is an original 1900s to 1910 in pretty great condition. There are some traces of gold solder on the bottom which has no effect on the stability of this lovely stool. The seat is flawless oak with a lovely aged patina and has a nice bevel like design on the sides and a slightly concave center. Probably to use a cushion with it. and the legs are very ornate with gold enameling over black steel. There is a metal plate on the bottom that reads Tonk Chicago. I believe it is supposed to swivel and the seat is supposed to adjust to desired height but I have never tried these features since I only use it for a decorative table. Unextended it measures about 18 inches high by 20 inches leg span and the seat is approximately 14 1/2 inches across.
