But it will really always be"Grandpa's writing desk" Unfortunately my seller is downsizing their home and grandpa's desk needs to find a new place to go. It is a lovely little piece measuring 39" tall. 27" across and 15" deep. It is in nice condition given it's age, but it does have a small chip out of the front right corner post. You can see it in the photos. The interior is plain with no shelves, drawers or cubbies. The information that I received from the appraisal company is as follows: The drop front oak(not quarter-sawn oak) writing desk is a Mission style Arts and Crafts desk; there is a keyhole in the top of the fall front and a small gallery or backplate on the top back of the desk. There is an"H" stretcher in the middle bottom of the desk and a vertical"X" stretcher on each bottom side of the desk; the legs are quadrant legs; there is one drawer with round brass pulls beneath the fall front. I would date the desk C. 1900-1915; the value would be between $625.00 and $700.00 in today's retail market. Due to the size of this item it will not be available for shipping. Circa 1890 Victorian period antique Walnut Dings and dents to top Red leather Working drawers No key, The Victorian period of furniture making in England extended from 1837-1901 and created some lovely furniture pieces such as this antique writing desk. Made from a lovely dark walnut wood and covered with a red leather writing surface. This desk is quite the find! Two easily opening drawers provide some storage in this desk. They are constructed with hand cut dovetails which are a sign of authenticity and quality. Each drawer ... morefeatures a unique brass handle. Locks are present but there is no key. Four turned legs are connected via a lovely turned stretcher which adds beauty and stability to this antique writing desk. Four brass casters at the bottom provide the ability to roll the desk short distances. One of the more unusual and attractive feature of the desk are the quarter round accents on the sides of the desk. Just under the top. Fluted lines can be found on these accents, the drawers, and all over the legs and stretcher. This fluted line style was one of may used in the Victorian period. This desk was originally made in England around 1890 and is rated in good condition. It is sturdy and stable. There are numerous dings and dents throughout the top and drawer fronts of varying sizes. Antique Marble Top Library/Hallway table
This piece is a wonderful. Delicate marble topped table. It measures approximately 30 inches high, 20.5 inches in width and 29 inches in length through the largest points end to end. Its beautiful beveled top is fairly heavy and does lift off and is not fastened to the wood. The legs are intricately carved. The piece is an antique piece owned by a lady who passed away over 30 years ago. The piece has been stored in a warehouse over the years, but shows very little wear and tear. There are possibly some small imperfections on the wood, but it is in good condition. I am not a wood expert but it appears to be cherry wood. Nice color. Sorry. Local pickup only. Rare and Unique antique. Up for your consideration is a library table made by Umphrey Manufacturing of Crawfordsville Indiana. Umphrey was in business from 1916 until 1936. There is very little information about this style of table on the web. I was only able to find one other Umphrey Table like this. And it was sold at an auction house in New Jersey back in 2002. The link is not allowed, but you can search Rago Arts and Auction Center in NJ and search for Umphrey within their site. It is the 24th entry. The refinished table was found in a barn where it had been sitting for years. There was no rot, but the laminate top and on the legs could not be salvaged. I removed the laminate and sanded and stained the exterior of the desk. I did not do any refinishing on the drawer or letter tray for fear of damaging the silkscreened birds and the Umphrey ... moreLabel. When refinishing, I tried to keep some of the character of the 90 year old desk. It has some of its blemishes, nicks and scratches still, but it looks amazing for as old as it is and as bad as it was. The desk measures 28" deep, by 44" wide, by 29" tall with 23 1/4" of legroom. It weighs about 70 lbs which is over the shipping limit offered on e-bay, so shipping will need to be thought out before you bid. I will deliver within 100 miles of Madison INDIANA for $150.00. Masterfully hand carved details include scroll work and deep moldings. The top has been revarnished for durability. The base is original and extremely well preserved on walnut and cherry with very minor mars at the edges. Vintage Oak Library Card Catalog Made Into a Coffee Table w/Custom Glass Top
For your consideration. A great antique card catalog that I made into a coffee table. I added some stubby feet and had a custom glass top made for it. Not only is a great coffee table, but it's wonderful for storage. The condition is excellent and you'd hardly know it was an antique. I got it in CT about ten years ago; I think it came from a school. I'm not certain of the age but I would estimate around 1950's or 60's. I put a piece of wood with veneer on the top for a more finished look(since these were stacked it had no top veneer) The whole thing is very clean with a nice golden oak finish, and it's super sturdy. What's also nice is that the drawers have bottoms so you can put small things in them and they won't fall out(other card catalogs have slots in the bottom and stuff falls through) Each drawer also ... morehas a sliding support that you can use to divide each drawer into two sections. This table has beautiful quarter sawn tiger oak wood. It measures 36" X 24" and stands 29.5" tall. This table has a manufacturer stamp in the drawer by its maker. The Brandt Cabinet Works, Hagerstown, Maryland. The pedestal supports are smooth lined. It is a family heirloom, belonging to my grandparents. Rare Atlas furniture library table/desk with 3 drawers. In 1883 two Swedish craftsman. Gustaf Holmberg and Lars Erickson, started the first bedroom furniture manufacturer in Jamestown, New York. Some time later, there were as many as 40 different companies manufacturing bedroom furniture in that area. Those Swedish craftsman named their company the"Swedish Furniture Manufacturing Corporation" They renamed that company in 1887 the"Atlas Furniture Company" which became widely regarded as the highest quality bedroom furniture manufacturer in the United States from 1890 to 1920. We estimate this item was made sometime around 1905 to 1920. It still has its original paper label and matching pulls. Looks to be make from mahagony and birds eye maple. ANTIQUE 19thC EASTLAKE GOTHIC GOLD LEAF & RED CARVED WOOD ANGULAR LIBRARY TABLE
We are pleased to offer this beautiful. Antique library or console table. This is a stunning,old table and dates to the 19th century. The table features ornate and intricate Eastlake and Gothic details. It is angular(triangular) and features carved wood, floral appliques on each corner of the table top. The top is skirted with unique, curved crosses" which have been hand incised. There are lower, carved, keyhole corner supports which rest under the skirt at the legged sections. The table also features small, turned wood spindles which attach to turned wood, upper stretcher supports. The legs are carved and flared and are flat as opposed to the more traditional, rounded legs. They, too, are hand incised and feature delicate scrolled designs. There are 3"inner legs" of turned wood. These do not extend to the floor and have spooled ... morefinials at their ends. A carved and incised, bottom stretcher support is attached at each leg. This is a very unique and striking table. It is gold gilded(gold leaf) over red and the red color does appear throughout. The table appears to be oak and it is sturdy and heavy. It is in good, antique condition. It does have evidence of age and use. The table top does have water rings and surface scratches that penetrate the gilded finish. There are some missing pieces to the corner appliques on the table top. These do not distract from the beauty of this table but, rather, enhance its antiquity and character. The Hughes Tool Company Desk was removed from the Executive Offices of the Hughes Tool Company many years ago. During the company's first of many remodeling projects. It was wrapped for protection and stored in an airport storage hanger by Sugarland. A brass plate located on the left inside panel on the desk authenticates the desk as"Property of Hughes Tool Company” with the serial number for asset inventory of the company. It is constructed of solid walnut with 24K yellow gold trim that wraps around the top. The drawers have fitted wooden partitions that are removal and are engraved with the Doten-Dunton Desk Co. logo; along with several other places. Doten-Dunton Desk Co. was based in Cambridge, Mass known as the best manufacturer of office furniture for many years; every piece was handmade by a master carpenter. The majority of the surface is wrapped is a golden maple veneer with a beautiful and distinct striped grain. The four closed side corners have an ornamental brass lion head and ring in the center. The table sits on a Duncan Phyfe style base with four fluted legs and brass hardware on the leg ends. The tooled leather light brown top is also octagonal shaped and adds to the uniqueness of the top which is in excellent condition. Although most drum tables are round.
