Has a small chip on one of the thru tenons and also some staining on the top. Please see all the pictures. This piece is made of superb quarter sawn oak with all original finish. The legs feature quadrillinear construction. Meaning the leg post have solid quarter sawn oak on all four sides. The legs also are pinned at the top and the top is splined in several places. Old School Library Table-39 x 72-Oak
This great old table has been in my home for 30 years. I have used it as a dining/breakfast room table. the table measures 39& 72, Oak wood, solid, heavy, I tried to get a picture of the legs but it was to dark I will try again& add to photos. The finish is original& hasn't been stripped. When I moved it the movers left a spot on the top which is lighter than the original finish, which could be blended into the wood to match original finish. Vintage Library/Banker's Lamp w/ classic green light shade. This listing is for a vintage library/banker's brass and green shade table lamp. The bottom of the lamp is stamped Made in China. Uses a 60 watt or smaller light bulb. It will take either old or energy-saving light bulbs. The brass on the top and the column seem solid. The base is made of thick brass sheet. 13.25" tall. 10.75" wide top. 7.25" wide base. 10" depth. The lamp is in GOOD USED CONDITION. The lamp does show wear. One of the bolts/nuts on the inside that secures the glass to the brass is missing. There is a small chip in the glass on the front. The brass shows scuffs/scratches. I am selling this absolutely gorgeous antique library table. I would date this table circa 1930s. This table is in BEAUTIFUL condition. There are some small scratches and scuffs on the legs but nothing that takes away from the beauty of the piece. This table has princess Ann style legs and a nice curve coming out from the table top. I believe the table is walnut but I am not absolutely certain. There is a tag on the bottom of the table which I am guessing is a makers mark but some of it is ripped off so I am unable to make it out. I listed a picture of it! The frame has two large drawers. 19 3/8" across by 5 1/8" deep, with, I believe, pine interiors and the original turned wood handles. The desk is constructed of steel and has heavy brass(does not accept a magnet) around the bottom of the legs. The desk was produced by Art Metal and manufactured in Jamestown. NY. It is dated 11/26 in both the drawer and on the inner section of the desk. The desk retains the original, chocolate brown paint on the sides, front and the back. The top has no paint(maybe originally designed this way) and is a silver, steel color. Each exterior side of the desk features a large, stenciled, Art Deco styled medallion. I think this was probably added to the desk at some point and do not think it is original. It does give the desk a unique look, however. The desk was made for reading or writing. Huge Antique Library Table with Ivy Pedigree
Our family member went to the University of Pennsylvania and purchased this 8 foot table 25 years ago at a UPenn Library Sale. It was used by the college students for many years. We estimate it's age at over 40 years minimally. We have no more room as it's huge. Sturdy and heavy. As you can see from the pictures, it has plenty of scratches dings and gouges which we were told not to sand out to maintain it's value. The three drawers are functional though the old keys are gone. Mahogany & French Marquetry Inlaid Occasional Center Writing Desk Library Table
I wish I could take pictures that do a little bit better job of showing the color and minute detail in the inlay work performed on this piece. So. Try to use your imagination. The table is nicer then the pictures reflect. To be sure as to rather or not this piece is from France or American made I cant be positive. However, I have been told it is French and over 100 years old. For sure this is the best inlay work I can remember seeing including the mother of pearl laid in place throughout the piece. Offering a spectacular set of antique furniture dating to the 1880's most likely French or Belgian. Consisting of a handcarved walnut library table with secret interior storage space, and a likewise hand-carved walnut hutch reaching a height of 7' at the top of the crowning jester. Both are one-of-a-kind, hand carved, and the carvings themselves are of a highly skilled nature and very sophisticated. The wood is identical and the carvings are consistent from one piece to the other. They came from an old San Francisco estate and have been in our home for over 30 years. Dimensions: Height: 84" Width: 60" Depth: 20" In addition to the laughing jester looking over the top, the hutch is flanked by two dancing 16th Century male figures, has a bas relief carved panel depicting Joan of Arc and her army at the center(which supports ... morethat assumption it is French) and each cabinet drawer in the lower section has a figure, one male and one female, talking to each other. Substantial storage space inside. Original finish. The hutch is dismantled very easily. The upper section of shelving lifts off and the two flanking dancing figures are set and not glued with dowels top and bottom. The bottom section is much heavier and does require movers experienced with moving pianos and antiques to transport. Though the cracks are invisible to the eye, the variegated coral-cream-pink marble counter top must be carefully wrapped to prevent losses when its being moved. While in place, the marble is quite stable and as I said you don't see the cracks. Of course, you can easily have a marble of choice made for this piece at a very reasonable cost. The table is flanked by four carved rams heads and lighter decorative columns"support" the center. The entire top of the table(about 6" thick) is removable for transport, but the very top section itself comes off to reveal secret storage sections. The wood is cut in such a way to reveal the large flaking pattern found in white oak(Quercus alba) that has been quarter sawn. Once stained, the wood has a rich golden color as seen in the photos. The table measures about 26 inches wide, 42 inches long, and stands about 30 inches tall. There is a drawer on one side and a shelf across the bottom. There is a burn mark along the edge as shown in the 5th photo, but otherwise the table is in good condition for its age. The inside of the drawer seems to have been replaced with some plywood at some point in time. The drawer doesn't slide smoothly, but may be an easy fix. I was told when I purchased it that the table came from the original 1904 Carnegie Public Library in Spokane, Washington. The legs feature a unique attachment design, marked with a 1904 patent date, and a Spokane Library inventory sticker. From that early turn-of-the-century period when Classical Revival detailing was first beginning to assume industrial heft and Arts& Crafts substance, this table is a beauty and a beast! TABLE DIMENSIONS Table top is 42” x 72” and 1-3/4” thick with great molded edge. Table height is 31” and clearance under skirt is 25-1/2” TABLE DETAILS Quartersawn oak table top was originally stained a deep bronze green color. The book-matched oak veneers combined with the stain wear creates the subtle appearance of peacock feathers from the figure of the wood grain. Eastlake Victorian Walnut Library Table Gothic Quatrefoils & Sawtooth Trim
Original late 19th century(gorgeous from every angle) carved walnut desk. The original brass pulls are well intact. The drawer pulls with ease and it has a lock with no original key. The finish wood at the top and sides of the desk is a fine tight burl veneer. The desk top has been re-covered in its past with a tapestry with chrysanthemums and/or peonies. There are holes, pulls and wear into the tapestry. There is some surface wear in the wood at the corners and areas where one would expect from an item that has seen continued use.
