What it revealed itself to be was certainly ... moreenlightening. For concealed between a thin layer of cedar veneer. An even thinner layer of decorative fascia veneer, and a 3/4" thick top strip of cedar running horizontally along the edge was in fact a huge sheet of PARTICLE BOARD! Prior to this rather cleverly deceitful method of increasing a company's profit with the use of inferior material under the guise of quality woods. There used to be a disclaimer attached to such pieces as this LANE'VIRGINIA MAID' CEDAR CHEST This disclaimer identifies the products used in the construction of furniture. And on the inside of the lid it says: 70% MADE OF 3/4" RED CEDAR PANELS(JUNIPERUS VIRGINIANA) So this isn't one of those particle board pieces. It is almost all solid wood except the veneers on the front and top, and the decorative base. ART DECO STYLE The blotchy areas are just where varnish remains-almost all of the varnish has totally disappeared. Leaving a raw piece with just those blotchy areas mentioned-the piece is almost immaculate condition otherwise. SIZE: 48" in width x 19" in depth x 18 1/2" in height VERY NICE ANTIQUE CONDITION no gouges. Unique hope chest from Saudi Arabia
My son was in the Army in Saudi Arabia. Particularly Bahrain, he purchased this hope chest for his fiance' and had it sent here to the United States. This is a unique, one of a kind gift for someone, it is not as big as a full size hope chest, but a fiance' could put store some things in it, but it is in perfect condition, there is a removable tray inside, that is lined with a green felt material, it can be used as a tray. The drawers on the side of the chest are not real. The wood is rosewood, with brass accents, but the handles appear to be metal. The dimensions are: 24 inches from the bottom to the middle of the top of the dome of the chest. The width on the sides of the 15 1/2 inches, the width of the chest in the front and the back is 24 inches, and the length from the bottom to the top where the lid opens is 11 inches. 1942 ART DECO WATERFALL LANE Bedroom Set Full Dresser Vanity Cedar Hope Chest
This is a gorgeous. Hard to find bedroom set from Jan 1942. Full size bed frame includes head and foot board and slats. Tallboy dresser with corner trays in top drawer in each corner, vanity with mirror and chair(mirror became detached from it's frame when I hauled it home, just needs a couple new clips) cedar chest aka hope chest is beautiful, has felt lined shelf, working lock and key. Dove tail construction on all pieces. Minor wear as would be expected in furniture of this age. There is chipping of the veneer on the front bottom of the cedar chest in one spot. Maybe form shoes bumping into it. I took pictures of it. This is the worst that I saw, other than some minor dings or scratches, again, common in furniture of this age. Excellent shape overall. Vintage Lane cedar hope chest ready for refurbish USA made With replacement lock
LOCAL PICKUP ONLY This item has been recalled because of the locking mechanism. But I've acquired a replacement lock from Lane and will include it in the sale. This chest is a perfect candidate for restoration. The Lane cedar chest may look like it needs a lot of work. But the inside is fairly immaculate. Aside from a split in the upper drawer(see pictures) that doesn't affect the integrity at all, the inside of the chest is in perfect shape. The outside needs veneer work, and I've tried to detail in the pictures all the places where the veneer is chipped away. Still this isn't anything you couldn't fix with a trip to Home Depot. There are also scratches on the surface. And spots on the top where a lot of the veneer has worn away. There is a small bit of paint splatter on the top. Two of the rear hinges have been replaced ... morewith modern hinges, and the locking mechanism will have to be replaced(Lane will send you a new lock) All in all. This auction is for a very unique. Rare, weird, strange in looks and as you can see by the pictures becomes milky like auras from its inner powers. It is a a powerful hope chest, wish vintage old wooden box. Belonged to a deceased White Witch from that same collection. Purchased at an estate sale by an investigator of the paranormal in which visited me over the weekend and I have some super nice pieces that he brought to me so you*WILL* want to keep an eye out on my auctions. She treasured this piece in which was another item that her MOTHER had given to ... moreher, as it was one of the last things she gave her as she felt lead to as she had always cherished her wish boxes and there were several and I do have others yet that are unique as they were family heirlooms and have been in the family and used by several throughout the years and good always seem to rain and follow each and everyone of them. Normal 0- Hope Chest opens up from the top 14 ½ inches deep and has a lower drawer so you can store bedding. Clothes, etc. A very rare and unique piece of furniture. It is in very good condition. It was made in January. 1937(found on the underside of drawer) It is a very rare find. It is on small caster wheels. Detailed workmanship all around the top. Beautiful flowers painted on the front. Intricate detail along the front of the drawer and on all four legs. 40 inches wide. 19 inches(front to back) 13 ½ inches tall. We love this piece; it was handed down through family. Unfortunately. Cannot keep. No room in our house. If our house was bigger we would have kept this. Hay(formerly of Woodstock) By ... more1894, it was considered one of the Empire's biggest furniture producers and was exporting chairs across the Dominion of Canada and to countries like England, Australia, New Zealand and South America. At that time, steam bent cane chairs and perforated cane seat chairs were their line. In 1899, the building burnt down. The company re-built and continued producing furniture, usually dining room furniture, library furniture and living room furniture. The company was situated along 1st Ave. West and 14th St. West. The company ceased in 1945. And the building was sold to the RCA Victor Company. The building was torn down in 1980.

This gorgeous chest weighs about 60 pounds with the internal shelf and is approximately 19.5" front to back. Approximately 48" wide/left to right and approximately 19" high/tall. This chest has the original finish. The detail that went into crafting this chest is astonishing. This chest is in pristine antique condition with very few natural character marks normally expected with antique wood. I particularly like the decorative carving in the center of the front and the beautiful grain on the top which is fairly uniform and straight for a natural walnut. This circa 1934 chest is very well crafted with solid construction and is in excellent antique condtion with only extremely minor wear ... moreto the original finish. 48 inches long 18 inches high. Add a cushion for a couple of inches if your table is too high 20 inches deep I purchased this super lift top chest for personal use years ago. I used it in Rhode Island. Then in Florida, then in Phoenix, then stored it for 7 years with some of the potential"keepers" in my life. Not knowing where I'd be living or what size my permanent home was going to be, I knew some of the furniture, pottery, and artwork would be more than I could absorb. Deep sighs. I really had hoped this chest would fit in somewhere. We are over 65 and living small- on 5 acres- but small. Some things are appearing in this ebay store. This box is the perfect chest to act as a bench at the foot of the bed, under a window, on a long side of a serious farm table, or as a coffee table. Oh my gosh, such a great chest with its chip ... morecarved border on every surface except the bottom and back. The back is finished to the point where it can be exposed to view, although it lacks the chip carved ornamentation. If being used as a bench, facing a table, and exposed to the room at the back, I would turn it around and face the room, making it also easier to open without having to pull it out or turn it. This is a super place for seasonal TV watching blankets and table linens. It's a great place to hide the sterling. Who would think to look? Behind the chest, in the first picture, you can see the Welsh dresser that I absolutely am keeping, built a specific spot in the house sized to fit. It occurred to me that this chest could slide under the Welsh dresser and serve to hold table linens, etc. but it is just too perfectly sized. If I put stuff in it, the way I want to, it won't slide out and if I add rollers, it will be too tall. It just has to go. Though built to emulate the Jacobean look, I'd say it is more of the Arts and Crafts movement, so really perfect for today's home, easy to blend with Metro-Industrial furniture and Moderne and Arts& Crafts and leather.
