Solid wood with cedar lining. pad bun feet with decorative wood trim on sides and oval in center. wood bench style back of trunk is about 3" high with carved design, the skeleton key lock is original hardware( no key is included) the hinge screws appear to have been tampered with as shown- lost some screws and replaced. Lane Cedar Lined Hope Chest, Early 1970's- PICKUP ONLY
FOR PICKUP ONLY This is a Lane Cedar Lined Hope Chest from about the early 1970's. Measurements are approximately 17" deep x 42" long x 24" high with a dark Early American finish. My apologies for the glare in the photos. Apart from needing a good cleaning on the outside. It is intact with mostly minor wear and tear on the outside except for the top where a young child attempted to scratch a few words into the wood. I doubt it could be sanded off but the area could be filled with putty if the item was to be repainted or simply covered with a cushion if the original finish is desired. There is a push-button lock but no key, I HAVE REMOVED THE INTERIOR LATCH MECHANISM FOR SAFETY REASONS PER REQUIREMENT OF CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION. You are bidding on a fabulous solid mahogany chalk painted Caswell-Runyan cedar chest. I have the original bill of sale dated 10/15/42 from the Huntington. Indiana company. This is a beautiful piece of furniture and it is the best of quality. The inside of the chest and the drawer are thick solid cedar and not lined in cedar as many chests are. It has been painstakingly painted in the loveliest ice blue color and distressed. The condition is excellent. Original label is still inside as seem in the photo. Up for sales is a rare. One of a kind, hand-built hope chest from the Middle East. I purchased the chest while stationed at a Navy base in Manama. Bahrain. After completing my tour in the Middle East in 2002, the military shipped my belongings back to Pittsburgh. So when I tell you that it is one of a kind- you can be sure of it! The chest is in excellent condition. I believe the exterior wood to be cedar that was inlaid with brass. The hope chest is perfect for storing precious photos. This beautiful PENNSYLVANIA blanket chest belonged to my great uncle. He was a huge collector of antiques! My husband and I love this piece. But we are such huge collectors ourselves we simply do not have the room for it anymore. I tried to find out the how, when and where of this piece, but was only able to get a little info. My grandfather(his brother) said he had it in his collection since he was married, so that was between 1930-1940. He loved estate sales and auctions, so I am assuming that is where he first purchased it. He pretty much didn't travel at all, so I would bet this came from an estate around 1930-1940 and in the area of Somerset, Westmoreland, Fayette or Bedford county PA. He lived in Indian Head PA-if you want to Google the area) My grandfather said it was always in his living room but you would never notice because ... morethey kept a blanket over it to protect it. This piece is mid to late 1800s at least.it may be earlier than that. My husband is a dairy farmer but also builds furniture on the side. He added the base. When we got this piece it had no base. Up for consideration is a 1948 Beautiful. LANE CEDAR HOPE CHEST RETRO ART DECO WATERFALL DESIGN. Includes original paperwork inside chest as shown. Original keys for both jewelry box and chest. There are a couple small veneer imperfections and light scratches on top from usage as seen in photos, but just look at the inside, wonderful condition that appears to have come from a time capsule as it looks to have never been used. 46" wide. 24" total height. I found this beautiful. Hand crafted oak love chest at an estate sale recently. It was custom made by Mark DelGuidice of Norwood, Massachusetts. I have never seen one of his pieces before, except in pictures, but fell in love with his craftsmanship after seeing this beautiful love chest and pictures of his blanket chests. I am hoping that I will discover other pieces by him in my travels as they are a great auction find. I buy many pieces of furniture but do not often see them in such a good condition as this one. For having this 60 year old chest, it is in wonderful condition. The smell of cedar is still so nice when opened. Inside has an attached shelf lined with green felt as pictured.
