This is a Herman Miller fiberglass shell chair with arms designed by Charles and Ray Eames in off white on a zinc X base. This is an early to mid 1950s 2nd generation chair produced by Zenith of Gardena. California with 3 inch(larger) pucks and thick fiberglass and a heavy base. This has all its original rubber glides. It has no Herman Miller markings at all, which is typical of an early chair like this. There is a hand written number 46 on the chair from the factory and a metal tag that says J.L.H. 19715 which is from the company that purchased the chair and used it originally(possibly The J.L. Hudson Co) This is an original chair with its original legs. This is not a marriage of various parts. The pucks are original to the chair and not re-glued. This is how it left the factory. Up for auction is a vintage Danish modern Selig chair. It is in good used condition. It is very sturdy and has new straps(seen in photo#6& 7) It could use a new cushion. It comes from a smoke free home and has no foul odors. But does have some staining/spots and a small hole on the bottom(seen in photo#11) It still has its original upholstery, which is an off white woven fabric, and its original rattan type back. I took close ups of the 2 sides where you can see some glue residue(photo#4& 5) The frame has some scratches and nicks which I have taken photos of. Nothing major, but worth mentioning. The Iconic Herman Miller Wooden Lounge Chair Designed by Charles Eames Manufactured by the Evans Company and Distributed by Herman Miller This has the highly sought after early Evans Label and 5- 2-5 bolt pattern. I'm dating this chair to 1948 due to the label. Bolt pattern and story from the owner. This chair was purchased by her parents around 1950. She even showed me photos of her as a little girl sitting in the chair. Also here is more info regarding this chair Structurally this chair is sound and still very comfortable. The wear is consistent with the age of this chair. One notable wear spot is under the seat at the front; there is a chip. I've included a couple photos of this. Also. Pair Of Vintage Mid Century Modern Eames Herman Miller Plywood DCM Cowhide Chair
This Listing is for two Eames DCM cowhide chairs circa 1970. It seems that both came from the estate of the original owner who at one point started to refurbish them. But came up short. Both are in functional condition, but they need some work. It is possible that the eames chair with black feet is not an original cowhide DCM chair, but that it was possibly made to match the DCM chair with white feet, which has slightly more wear consistent with a chair from the 1970 period. The tags and stamps are not on the chairs, however there are areas of discoloration which seem consistent with what original Eames cowhide chairs tags and stamps would have been. This all being said. They are charming and quite rare examples of classic Eames, particularly since the comfortable cowhide surface denotes a uniquely american response to the overwhelming danish/european ... moreinfluence of the mid century modern design movement. They are wonderful and functional in their current condition.and though they would need some restoration to become showroom caliber pieces, they are by far superior in comfort, historical relevance, and rare styling than the many knockoffs and modern day reproductions that are available new today. These chairs in excellent condition often sell for between $1000- $2000 per chair. However, these chairs are listed for only $445 for BOTH chairs, shipping included. I am told proper refurbishing or restoration typically increases the value a significant amount in these types of circumstances, however I have not looked into this myself regarding these chairs. These vintage chairs are true American classics. And this upholstery type is significantly more rare than other types, and therefore can it can command a higher price than other eames DCM/LCM chairs in similar conditon. This chair is designed by French top designer Pierre Paulin for Artifort in 1963. This chair. Type F675 is better known as the Butterfly chair. This is a very nice original early production(zinc base, no chrome) with very nice natural tan leather seat. Chair features a five star chrome base. The ottoman. And the back support mimics the classic Charles Eames' iconic chair. Although the lounge chair and ottoman are not Herman Miller originals and are unmarked, they are more than likely made by Selig Furniture or Plycraft, both high-end makers of the period. The chair and ottoman have been outfitted with maple wood, and a durable soft tobacco brown leather upholstery. The chair swivels 360 degrees, The ottoman is fixed.
