The box being lined with silk and velvet and covered in a cloth exterior. The backs of the mirror and brushes are finely hand painted with flowers. The set is hallmarked for Birmingham 1938. There are makers' marks with the hallmarks. The mirror, one of the hair brushes and the clothes brush have the marks for Synyer and Beddoes, who worked in Birmingham from 1896-1949. The other hair brush and comb have marks for Henry Clifford Davis, who worked in Birmingham from 1907-1960. A good medium size Victorian swing dressing mirror on shaped serpentine base with scrolling supports all standing on four bun feet.The mirror plate is original and has that lovely old aged and foxed effect as can be seen in the pictures. Antique Fruitwood Dressing Table Piano Bench Stool French Louis XV Carved
This wonderful bench or stool was acquired by my grandfather for use with a spectacular Louis XV style grand piano. It is larger and more deeply upholstered than many piano benches. And it is possible that it was originally intended for use with a dressing table or as a window seat. It is also easy to imagine it as extra seating near a sofa or even as a coffee table if used with a tray. In any event, it is obviously a piece that can serve in a variety of ways. This piece is approximately 38 inches long. 21 inches wide, and 21.5 inches tall. I have classified it as cherry. Though it is most likely walnut or some other fruitwood. It is structurally sound and, in my opinion, in very good condition given its age. I believe that it was made no later than the'20s, but I am not an expert. You may be able to retain the existing upholstery by ... morehaving it cleaned. You will probably want to clean and brighten the finish, which has dulled a bit with age. It measures 29 1/2" tall while the top is 36 1/2 x 21 3/4" It was bench made from antique elements likely sometime in the 1930's. When I say antique elements. I mean it appears to be made mostly from either much older lumber and or elements from much older pieces such as drawer bottoms, sides, etc. I'm basing the date of manufacture from the hardware which looks 1930's. It is expertly crafted to mimic the really nice carved Chippendale dressing table, circa 1770. Right down to it's pegged case the skill and attention to detail is very evident. Delightful quality antique grooming set consisting of hairbrush. Mirror, comb and two clothes brushes. The set is hallmarked sterling silver(Birmingham 1904, Saunders and Shepherd) and each item is clearly hallmarked. All items are in very good condition with minor signs of use commensurate with age but no significant dents or dings. The brushes are all complete with the hairs in excellent clean condition and the mirror glass is unmarked. The items feature a charming Art Nouveau design of a young woman with a lyre. DESCRIPTION: Edwardian solid ebony pin cushion with silver embellishment and it's original navy velvet cover. Silver has a vacant cartouche surrounded by decorative engravings and is hallmarked London 1914. Measures 3.5 inches in diameter. Stamped'EBONY MADE IN ENGLAND' to the base. This extremely slow growing hardwood was imported from British India and was a popular vanity set material with both men and women from around the turn of the century to the mid 1920s. When the timber became too rare and expensive to be economically viable. These ebony relics of the period have been highly prized ever since. CONDITION: The velvet cover is a little worn but has no tears. Holes or stains. The silver is in perfect condition with dings or scratches. An old traditionally-designed nail buffer. Probably made somewhere around the 1920s. And still perfectly fit for use. It is just under 5 inches long. The back of the buffer is marked EBONY. Condition Excellent condition. The wood is in lovely condition. With no damage to the ebony, and the kid skin is beautifully soft, with no rips or tears, though a little discoloured.
