The cabinet is 2 piece, both of which have a full, ... more6 side, hexagon shape. The lower unit features 2 front doors which open for storage. The doors have inset, raised panels with a carved, Asian, rural harvest scene. Each of these depicts a person gathering the harvest. There are also thatched roof houses and palm trees in relief. This piece can stand alone as an end table if desired. The lower unit is a little wider than the top and extends in width when the hutch is placed on top. The top hutch unit is also adorned with carved relief panels. There are 6 small panels above each window. There are 2 different scenes on the hutch that alternate with each other around the top circumference of the cabinet. Thatched houses, trees and mountains are featured on these panels. The hutch has two hexagon glass shelves with fixed placements. The windows do not have glass but the hutch is designed for glass panels to slip down and into notched glides inside the unit. The hutch has a hexagon top that screws onto the piece. The cabinet is quite beautiful. It is solid wood(no veneer) with a reddish brown stain. The relief panels are either wood on may be a Mid Century type composite.hard to tell for sure. They are in a straw or golden tan color with darkened crevices. There are no manufacturer's marks or stamps on either piece. I feel that this is not an Asian made cabinet but rather a"French Chinoiserie" style which was so popular in the Mid Century. It is a quality cabinet with gorgeous lines and interesting character. It is in very good condition and very structurally sound. Available for your acquisition is this dinner plate attributed to Spode. It is unsigned and only has a size and pattern number in red on the bottom. Pieces were not always marked and sometimes just a pattern number appeared and no Spode name at all. Painted marks are often in red. The detail on this plate is exquisite. It has a scalloped gold edge. Very intricate green transfer patterns, and a handpainted Chineese chinoiserie design with cobalt blue applications accented with gold. This plate is hard paste earthenware and not porcelain. ... moreOverall the plate is in excellent condition but it does have a flake which is visible on the upper right portion of the closeup photo below(see#4) There are no other flakes. Chips, cracks, or repairs. The plate has the usual crazing that is to be expected in a piece with this kind of age. Rar 19thC Herend Porcelain Ming Pattern Cup & Saucer Porzellan Tasse Chinoiserie
For sale is a rare cup and saucer made by Herend around 1860. This is when they made their best stuff. It is one of the Herend Chinoiserie designs(copying Chinese and Japanese motives) called the Ming pattern which I think is one of their best. The glaze has the bluish tinge to it that is sought after by collectors. The set is superbly painted with a lady sitting on a bench with some nice vases by her side and three rabbits running around in front of her. The rim has a superb red and gold design to it. The cup has the same trim on the top inside and the outside footring which is also reticulated. The colors are thick enamels which is raised off the porcelain itself. Just amazing. The porcelain is super thin an delicate. Even underneath the saucer there are flowers painted in blue and green ones on the inside of the cup. The handle of the ... morecup is in the shape of a small chinaman. Both pieces are unmarked which is only common on their early wares. The cup definitely never had a mark but the saucer bottom looks to have a small imperfection ground away in the center and their might have been a mark though I doubt that since it was ground just a tiny bit and very evenly. The set is in perfect condition with a small dent in the footring of the cup but that is from the making as there is a bit of paint on it. The cup is a bit over 1.625 inches tall and 2.625 inches in diameter. The saucer is 0.625 inches tall and 4 inches in diameter. Almost certainly English in origin, and dating to around 1870- 1880. The bowl has a flat bottom. A scalloped edge detail, and the interior has a Chinese or Japanese figured garden scene in gilt- please see photos. Condition is overall very good. With no damage or repairs. The gilt decoration is extremely good with very little rubbing, and there is the expected light rubbing to the rim and base commensurate with age. There's a large lidded jar that stands 13 1/4" tall and is approx. 7" across at its widest point. There's a lidded square box that is 4 1/2" x 4" x 2" tall. A square shaped dish that is 3" x 3 3/4" An oval shaped lidded container that is 6" tall by 6" wide at its"shoulders" and 4" wide. Lastly an underplate that the oval dish fits in. A spectacular antique hand painted chinese trunk dating from the first quarter of the 20th century. Possibly earlier. Wooden construction with a canvas/vellum type material covering the entirety and stitched into place. Wonderful once vibrant palette. Now tastefully muted with the passage of time, depicting traditional scenes. All patterned surfaces are hand painted. With the traditional application of a raised, quasi three dimensional faces. As can been seen, some beautiful, time related distress to the paint work which gives the object a credible and appropriate look for its significant age. The ram's head in Chinese art is often reduced to a simple geometric form so that it almost goes unnoticed by the unknowing eye. And indeed I almost missed these little fellows. Thus the lucky rams on the rim of this piece assist the fierce dragon in providing protection to the owner's jewelry. The dragon is a central symbol in Chinese art. A Chinoiserie scene is printed on both sides. The handle also printed with a row of flowers taken from the tree transfer. In the pic above you can see some lighter brown spots in the scene; I believe this was an accidental smearing of the transfer before it was fired. Consisting of a cup, saucer and bread and butter plate, was manufactured by Hammersley at their Alsager Works in Longton, Staffordshire. The pattern number is E550. And all three pieces carry the same Hammersley backstamp. It is in excellent antique condition. Not new, being free from cracks, chips or crazing and the gilding is intact. It is normal tea size. I.e. the low footed wide mouthed cup with a lovely broken loop handle stands 5cms tall, the saucer is 14cms in diameter and the plate is 18cms in diameter. A fine example of hand painting famille rose flower panels, with raised leaf and"net pattern" banding. This is a direct copy/imitation of the Chinese oriental famille rose 18thc pieces. These plates are extremely rare and early examples of fine flow blue pottery china! The pair of Chinoiserie plates feature a beautiful deep blue flow blue Chinese pagoda garden. Made by Thomas Godwin pottery in the Staffordshire region of England. In the early 1850s. Heavy pottery, with only light crazing overall, and a small(and ancient) chip on the foot of one of them. Both plates come with old brass hangers, and are in near mint condition. Just stunning! No damage anywhere except for an old chip on the foot of one. And overall crazing. Description:A rare whitewood box in the form of a sewing basket the top decorated with a pagoda flanked by trees inside a stylized leaf border. The handle similar decoration and the sides have a surrounding leaf and vine border. Dimensions are 5" x 4" x 2"this does not include handle) Tunbridge ware with penwork decoration such as this appear to be circa 1810-1830. Tunbridge ware boxes have surfaced with labels identifying the manufacturer as George Wise's firm in Tonbridge. York and Dublin were other centers with similar workshops. We are pleased to offer this beautiful pair of Paul Hanson lamps. Dating to the 1950s. This pair exhibit large, fine porcelain vase bodies and extremely ornate brass hardware. The bases are exceptionally ornate with neoclassical leaves, scrolls, shells and berries/grape clusters. The vase bodies are a creamy white with chinoiserie pattern of large and abundant Crysanthamums in gold gilt. The lamps are in very good condition with no chips or cracks in the porcelain. The brass has some slight aged patina. The lamps retain their original, oversized bulb sockets which can be replaces quite easily. The wiring is vintage but in good, working condition. Cleaned and rebuilt, but was not installed back into the case correctly-the movement is actually lower by one screw-hole; the old holes had become too wide, so instead of repairing the hole, the repairman just made a new hole right below the original. Some of the original screws/bolts within the movement have been replaced with newer bolts, not original to the clock. c) the brass ormolu on the clock face. Inside the front door, is brighter than the rest, I assume it's newer than the rest. d) there are cracks on all sides in the wood and paint is missing. On the plus side the clock runs. I am not 100% certain of it’s use other than perhaps a true wind chime or a call to dinner chime? There are no strikers however to make me think it is a wind chime and I do not think it to be a rain chime? None the less, each iron globe gives a different ring when struck so it could have well been used as a wind chime. This is a fine porcelain bowl measuring 6 1/4" square and about 1" deep. It is marked on the bottom. CHINOISERIE TOWLE FINE PORCELAIN JAPAN. The painted design has pleasant yellow border and unusual scene of Chinese"style" figures in a garden with child jumping trying to get hibiscus blossoms from a beautiful lady with a basket of them held above her head. Also has a bluebird and a male figure in the background. There is also painted gold border trim. Very pretty piece! This belonged to some late friends and I think dates from 1960's or 70's. ROYAL WINTON GRIMWADES PEKIN BLACK BON BON DISH - CHINTZ - CHINOISERIE - 1950's.
For your consideration and for auction I offer a ROYAL WINTON BON BON DISH IN THE PEKIN BLACK PATTERN. This dish. From the Staffordshire f actory Grimwades. Is a good example of a distinctive chintz pattern. Introduced in the early 1950's. The design was applied by transfer printing and completely covers the piece, typical of chintz patterns, but with a Chinese or chinoiserie image. The gold trim to both bowl and base rims has been applied by hand. The dish stands 2.8 inches in height and measures 6.5 inches(16.5cm) at its widest point. In great condition and with minimal loss to the gilding. I will leave the images to complete my description and welcome all questions. The tiny kettle stands 2 1/2" hight- 3 1/2" high to the top of the handle- and measures 4” long with straight spout and ball knop. Transfer printed in dark blue with pearlware glaze. The teapot is decorated in one of the most decorative early Chinoiserie Blue Willow type pattern. There is a man on a bridge, 3 pagodas as well as a fence and willow. The central image repeats on each side of the pot with a complementary border trim. Among the earliest transfer printed wares. The toy kettle is unsigned. The exact pattern and maker is unknown. ... moreThe former owner attributed it to Spode. The blank is extremely rare. And if not Spode, the maker would have been another fine late 18th/ early 19th century pottery manufactory in the Staffordshire region of England. The kettle is marked with a tag as item number 299 in the Rhoda Cope Collection. The teapot is in great condition especially considering it age and use by generations of young children with a flea bite on the very tip of the spout and no chips cracks or repairs. Typical firing imperfections consistent with age. These fine early childrens or dolls dishes in Willow and Chinoiserie patterns are like pocket sized works of art.
