Lovely Chinoiserie Wall Shelf c1930s No Reserve
From a Hollywood. CA. estate, this lovely vintage wall shelf is offered. The cabinet measures approximately 19" X 30" X 7 1/2" deep and dates c1930s. The hardware and construction method suggest the the cabinet was built in either the United States or England. Black lacquer covers the entire piece and I am only able to determine that the material is hardwood. If American, it is likely constructed of rock maple. If English, the wood is probably elm. The cabinet is decorated in a Chinese motif with the design being composed of a paste hand applied. There is some loss to the paste but I have not found this unattractive 9see photos) The doors close with a snap and the original brass hangers are intact. Made in Paris in the mid nineteenth century, c.1850, it has an octagonal based shape, and comes decorated in a rare european chinoiserie pattern with elements of the"hundred antiques" following the chinese"precious objects" tradition. This is a fairly common subject in chinese ceramics, but very hard to find in european porcelain. Condition is very fine. All the pieces are undamaged and free from chips. Cracks or hairlines. The decoration is extremely well preserved. Fine example of 19th century lacquered papier mache. This wall hanging letter box or holder is from England. There is an old label on the back from an English shop. There is a charming scene on the front portion that has a group of people examining a very large ornate urn. The top and both sides are also decorated. This box is about 7 3/4" wide and about 8 1/4" tall. The sides taper out from 1/2" to almost 2" The surface decorations are in good condition with some losses. But not enough to ruin them. There is a chip on the back at the top with a small part of the very top broken off. Also some of the left side has some broken off. This auction is for a Fantastic and Very Old Pair of Matching Soft Paste Saucers or Shallow Bowls. They are in a classic Chinoiserie scene with Imari Colors of Cobalt Blue. Iron Red, Pink, Peach and Green with Copper Luster Highlights and Outlines. The pattern is hand painted with great. Intricate artistic detailing: a woman under a parasol is being served by a short man as a bald Asian man sits nearby arranging flowers against a Large Urn with blossing blooms. Above, a green bird is perches on a limb. Like I said. Intricate. They are in very good condition. Especially for their age. There are no chips or cracks or repairs in either piece. The colors and images are vibrant and bold. They were a recent estate sale find. There are no backstamps or marks. A previous owner placed a sticker on each indicated they were"early S underland circa ... more1800. By the form and feel of the soft paste. I believe they are from the very early 1800s and could have been made in the Sunderland area of England given the use of luster glazing. Whatever their origin. These are Fantastic Examples of Very Early soft paste and are a Rare Find. I have been unable to find another example in this pattern. Rare 19thC Bayeux Figural Chinoiserie Spice Dish Figure Porcelain Figurine
For sale is a merchant with his seven spice pots made by Bayeux during the Langlois period around 1830. Not sure what it is for but likely for spices or such. It is a rare piece modeled as a chinaman surrounded by six small pots and one pot in his hand all decorated in the chinoiserie style with figures. Flowers, designs and even writing. Each pot has a different design to it and a nice gold trim to the top. The asian merchant is wearing a very detailed robe and a nice hast with a hole on top likely for a liquid or to hold incense! All on a nice base painted like roks with grass on top. A superb piece that looks amazing on display! The piece is in superb condition with some wear to the gold trim on the pots and the one he is holding in his hands has a hairline that you can only see whn you search for it! The dish is not marked but that is ... morenormal! It is 6.25 inches tall, 7.375 inches wide and 4.875 inches deep. This Mason's ironstone plate is about 10.25 in. in diameter including a flat 1.5 in. border; it was probably a charger or service plate. The condition is excellent showing all colors of the transfer painting in bright chinese red. Greens, yellow, orange and pale pink. The Mason's pattern is Red Scale and this Mason's mark was used after 1845. The piece is in very fine condition- no chips, no repairs, no missing paint.

Rare Large Antique English Delft Plate, c1700, Chinoiserie Pattern, Yellow Rim
A wonderful. Substantial English Delft serving plate dating from the late 17th/early 18th century. Decorated in the chinese style. With a foliate border and a floral and rockwork centre panel. Finished with a bright yellow underglazed rim. Measures just under 14 inches wide and 2 and a quarter inches deep. As can be seen. Some damage to the centre panel on front an back, where there is a loss to the glaze which has been repaired at some point in the last 300 years. I do not doubt a superior repair could be achieved, but undeniably it adds to the narrative and is forgivable given that the plate is in excellent order, with some frits around the rim, but crack free and supremely robust. The brooch has two similar loops on the back(attached to each side of the lower half of the frame) It is possible that there once also was a band of fringe that was secured there as well. However. It is also possible that the loops may be there so that the earrings had a place to be attached to the bottom of the brooch to be able to create a more extravagant double pendant brooch(see listing picture) Convertible jewelry was very popular in the Victorian era. As they often liked the ability to manipulate(take apart and re-combine) their pieces into different ornamental forms for various functions(i.e. a piece could be worn a gem set brooch could be directly attached to the collar of the matching gem set necklace. Etc. The earrings have newer wires/findings that presently do not attach to the loops securely. Rare 18thC Worcester Chinoiserie Porcelain Scenic Teapot Porzellan Kanne Scene
For sale is a superb teapot made by Worcester around 1765. It is handpainted with the Chinese Family motif using some superb colors and with lots of very nice detail. The finial on the lid is in the shape of a flower which I always like. There is some nice gold and orange trim on the top and the lid rim and the handle and spout have an orange design on them as well. The spout front also has a floral motif on it. The piece is in superb condition with the petals of the finial having some minor damage. The finial having been reglued at the base and there is a flat chip to the underside of the rim of the lid. The teapot is in great shape with just a crack around part of where the top handle attaches to the body. It does not go all the way around not was the handle ever off or anything like that! It displays perfectly! A bit of common black kiln ... moredust as well but it is rather fine and small in spec size. The pot is not marked which is fairly common! Rare 18thC Worcester Chinoiserie Porcelain Sauceboat Dish Porzellan Sauciere
For sale is a really nice sauce boat made by Worcester in about 1765-68. It was decorated with the'man with a bomb' which looks more like a pineapple to me) pattern and is in the form of a helmet with a double scroll handle. A really fun piece to look at! Each side has a chinoiserie scene in underglaze blue that is framed by scrolls with the body having a relief pattern to it as well. There is a flower on the bottom inside as well and a nice design to the spout. It displays nicely but has two smallish chips to the spout. A tiny on on the right side top rim that is hard to see and a larger one on the left side with two smaller ones next to it. In this area there is a reglued chip to the side though that is hard to see from the outside when on display. An extra blob of porcelain on the inside bottom. All in all in decent shape! Meissen Chinoiserie Saucer Dot Period 18th Century
A very nice Meissen chinoiserie saucer of the Dot period(circa 1770) The saucer depicts a seated figure with a fan taken from Schultz Codex and surrounded by porcelain wares. Boiling teapot on the stove and Indianische Blumen. The painting is done in multicolor enamels with rich gilding. The scene is in a gilt scrollwork quatrelobe cartouche embellished with fake Boettger lustre and iron-red scrollwork. The reverse with three concentric red circles. The saucer is marked with a crossed swords mark and a dot in underglaze-blue, it also has an impressed numeral. The condition is fine- no repairs. Cracks, hairlines, chips. Some gold loss to the border. The saucer comes from December Bonhams"Fine European Ceramics and Glass Sale" and was sold with an earlier 1720s cup that I am keeping. The saucer is obviously a 1770 replacement of a ... morebroken saucer for the cup. The painting. As nice as it is, is not early Hoeroldt quality, and the secret for the Boettger lustre by that time was lost- hence a failed attempt at the lustre. We are pleased to offer this exceptional pair of Mid Century Stiffel porcelain lamps. This pair features exquisite design and detailing. They have very nice. Heavy brass bases with Stiffel's unique self leveling feet. The bodies are beautiful white porcelain, fine china vases with a lovely twig, leaf and berry pattern. The pattern is black outlined with gold gilted interiors. It is a very soft pattern which is dotted throughout the bodies but is not too busy. It gives the pair a wonderful, chinoiserie feel. The porcelain also features bands of gold gilt. Though not visibly marked, the porcelain is very possibly by Lenox China as they quite frequently partned with Stiffel during this time period to create some of the most beautiful lamps of the Mid Century. Detailed scene with lots going on as colorfully dressed men push and pull a cart with musicians topped by an octopus. There are great images everywhere including a kite with a panther or devil's head. The tray is 14" by 10 3/4" and in very good condition. There is the usual surface and rim wear but the images retain there allure. The tray itself is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. Vintage pair of Chinese chinoiserie figures
This is a vintage pair of Chinese figures. They measure 11 cm and 10 cm tall. I don't know what they are made of but I think it's some kind of composition and they are a very decorative pair. Their width at the base which has black velvet to stop scratches is 4 cm. Together they weigh 195 grams. Should you wish to have more photos please let me know. Rare Antique Italian Chinoiserie Cabinet on Stand Circa 1680 Description: A rare and stunning Italian chinoiserie cabinet on stand. Circa 1680. The cabinet is black and gold lacquer with mother of pearl inlay. The left front door depicts a ship, and the right, a Chinese temple, possibly South Putuo Temple. While the scenes and figures are all European interpretations of Chinese scenes and figures, the one character standing beside the ship is wearing a 17th century European outfit, leaving a telltale sign as to the age and origin of the piece. This is not un-common for pre-1800 depictions of Chinese subjects but I always find it somewhat humerous. The interior of the cabinet has been altered and now has mirror glass lining the inside. It has a gold wash interior and is decorated with hand chased oriental views around the body. It has London hallmarks with the date letter for 1773 and a makers mark that looks like I K or J K. It weighs 6.98 Troy ounces and measures approximately 4 + ½ inches tall to the rim( 7 inches tall overall to the top of the handle) by 4 + 7/8 inches diameter across the rim. This is a wonderful and scarce Antique French or Italian Red Toleware Chinoiserie Decorated Monteith. The oval shaped monteith measures approximately 11-3/4" from handle to handle. It stands approximately 4-3/4" to the top of the scalloped rim. The monteith retains its original red. Gilt and black chinoiserie decoration with correct crazing of the finish. It is in wonderful estate condition. There are NO breaks. NO holes, NO repairs and NO replacements. It shows only age appropriate surface wear to the paint and decoration, as shown in the photos.
