It features brass drop and pull handles on the bottom drawers, and ring pull handles on the two smaller drawers. The top glass doors are lockable and the key is present with the cabinet. The piece is crowned with a Scroll Pediment and center finial, and has Astragal molding around the top. The wood grain on the piece is just amazing, with gorgeous graining. ANTIQUE FRENCH COUNTRY 18 c. OAK BIBLIOTHEQUE BUFFET BOOKCASE Formally the top part of an 18th century French Buffet a Deux Corps currently used as a bookcase. The bottom part was lost through the centuries and the top was raised on bun feet and rounded apron was added to the bottom. This transformation took place a while ago and the wood shows some aging and doesn’t stand out. Two doors open wide. Revealing the interior, which is about 52” from side to side ... moreand 13” deep and 52” tall. We have added two 1 ½” thick heavy duty pine shelves. Which are completely adjustable and will hold a lot of weight. The shelves were aged to look old and will not stand out. The front doors are covered with gathered French country style fabric. Which can be removed so that you can see the interior through the glass. The lock is in working condition, complete with the key. The bibliotheque measures about 59” at the widest point and about 20 ¾” deep. It stands up about 63 ½” tall and the top surface can be used as a shelf. Displaying collectable items. Very heavy. Solid and well built item. The primer material is oak. However, secondary woods was also used on the sides and the back, which is common for 18th Century furniture. We were using it in our office for files and fabric samplers and it is hard to find a bookcase which will fit oversized files and provide such great access as this item does. Each of the drawers has a working lock and the key is included. There are 3 glass shelves on the upper center and 6 wood shelves in the upper left and right unit. Each of lower doors conceals one wood shelf. The upper unit is lighted but the current cord should be replaced. This item is in wonderful antique condition with only minor signs of age appropriate wear as pictured. The backing to the upper unit looks to be lined in a off white colored wall paper and there is a red drip stain to this surface as seen in image#18 on the lower left side. This is a rather rare quartersawn oak barrister bookcase. Sometimes called a lawyers bookcase or stacking bookcase. Have not had one of this style in many years. Usually referred to as a'Canadian' barrister bookcase. Not sure why but assume they were manufactured in Canada. Like most other barristers except the front windows are rounded on each side-makes for an interesting look. This piece has been refinished and is in excellent condition. I notice everything appears original but one of the scissors closing mechanisms I think has been replaced-looks and works well. This unit is graduated in that the bottom two sections are taller(13.5) than the top section(11.5)nice for storing different size objects. These materials are far superior to the original production materials used by Globe Wernicke. These steel shoulder screw assemblies are high grade stainless steel and the bushings are oil impregnated bronze(therefore self lubricating) The washers are stainless steel as well. Installed these look almost identical in color to the original production pieces unlike the other replacement bearing assemblies out there being offered today. These are far superior in terms of function over the original materials. The original materials would trap moisture between the steel bearing and steel shoulder on the screw and the steel bearing assemblies would then rust seizing up. This then forces the door surface to be dragged along the top of the bearing loosening the bearing attachment, damaging the wood on the door and slowing the progress of a door that should otherwise open with great ease. i just purchased another horner bookcase at over twice the price i am starting this one. i do not have room for both. But if this one does not sell, i guess i will have to put one on the porch. my house is full. anyway, for auction is a fabulous r j horner solid mahogany three door bookcase with mahogany shelves original to the piece. it has two fierce griffin at either end of the bookcase and three griffin head situated at the center and above each door. these heads are part of the finely carved freize near the top of the bookcase. it has wonderful molding along the top and below the carving and sits on finely carved feet. it is 6 feet wide over 65 inches tall without casters and 15 inches deep at the widest part at the griffins nose. it has the original key and all the door locks function perfectly. all original and no defects or issues ... moreto report. a hard to find bookcase. the pictures i have taken are terrible and do not do the piece justice and do not show the intricate and detailed carving as it should. sorry, i just can't seem to take a picture worth a flip. it can be picked up at my home or shipped. shipping expense is the buyers responsiblity. i would be glad to facilitate shipment or help in anyway in that regard or you can arrange it for yourself. good luck. ps. the buy it now price is 1500 less than one exactly like it sold for about one year ago on live auction not to mention the 18 percent buyers premium which made it almost 9500. This is a vintage 1990s pine double door bookcase. It measures 82 inches in height. 19 inches in depth, 49 inches in frontal length. It is unsigned but probably European made back in the 1990s out of old pine. It is a beautiful classical looking bookcase and will hold a lot of books as you see pictured. It has adjustable shelves. The bookcase is in perfect condition with no damage. I'm told the people paid around $2,500 for it in a designer store and we are selling it at a fraction of that cost.
