finally for sale a very rare model r j horner double secretary or side by side bookcase with a wonderful very thick drop front and a great set of cubbies. i have been collecting antiques for 5 decades and have owned 100's of r j horner pieces and have seen thousands. But this is the only double secretary by him like this one i have ever seen. maybe i have not been at the right place or right time and you may own 20 of them, but this is the only one i have seen and therefore i believe it to be a very rare model. at any rare it is a great piece, original finish as you can see the finish is crazing a good bit. the grain and color of the piece is great with a great patina so i would not recommend stripping it under any circumstance. as you see hopefully the secondaries are birdseye maple which about every mahogany horner piece i have has ... morebirdseye. my camera is old, i am old and the pictures suck. they are too dark and do not show the huge lions head in the top well nor the standing griffins under the drop front. the top drawer is contoured serpentine top to bottom and the two lower drawers concave end to end. the freeze(sp) at the top and sides is contoured serpentine top to bottom and there is a neat scroll over the top of the big griffin on top with carved ends. there are ionic twisted columns on either side of the curved glass upper door compartment. the piece at the top and bottom has great lines and form concave forms in the center of the top and bottom sections. everything original as far as i know including hardware. i have owned this piece many years and it cost a pretty penny way back when. the best i remember, it has inventory nos. on the back and it used to have a piece of an r j horner paper label on the back. i have not looked at its back for longer than many of you have been alive and it is too full and heavy for me to move to check if it is still there, however, i guarantee it to be r j horner at his finest. it is quite heavy. when i moved it years ago i struggled, doubtful i can budge it now. it h

This is a great early Victorian walnut two piece bookcase. The bottom section is a two door glass bookcase with four adjustable shelves. The top half is a unique bookcase file storage section with three glass doors. Notice the unique horizontal files for storage on both side doors of this top section. On the brass hardware on this bookcase there is a patent date of Feb. 25th. 1858. This bookcase standing together measures 90" high, at the widest is 63" wide and the depth is 17" deep. What an outstanding piece of Victorian Walnut. I have had many that have suggested that this could of come out of a music room and the top was used to file sheet music. The shelves are 16 inches deep and 18 inches wide in clearance. The clearance height between the shelves is 10 1/2 inches for the lowest shelf and 9 inches for the balance. It would make a great entertainment center. Constructed from solid oak this is a well made quality bookcase. The top has has a carved crest backsplash and allows for extra space for display or books. The two doors on the upper section are frosted and etched glass. The fronts have a beautiful fan design fretwork. These doors open to reveal more storage space. The figured solid walnut pedal pump organ by the Estey Organ Company of Brattleboro, Vermont USA, standing on the original castors with decorative galleried back and greek key detailing, the centre now housing two shelves acting as a bookcase, the flip up top opening to reveal the organ keys with gilt painted makers name and 36 white keys, and 25 black keys. The internals of the organ have obviously all been removed but the pumps remain for decorative effect. Bookcases were first introduced in the 15th century and with few changes along the way to their design. The history of bookcases is indeed a simple and short affair. What cannot be argued with however is that books are as still supremely valued today as they were in the time of the Tudors but whether an organ has ever held books so competently is somewhat open to debate. ~ Bookcase Made Of The Oak From HMS Foudroyant- Lord Horatio Nelsons Flagship 1799-1801 ~ This oak open revolving bookcase. Was manufactured from the oak and copper from HMS Foudroyant, Nelson's flagship from the 6th of June 1799 until the end of June 1801. The bookcase was produced by Goodall of Manchester. And bears an inscribed copper plaque to top stating its source using salved materials. The bookcase has 3 shelves and rotates on a spindle. ~ Dimensions ~ The piece has a height 29 inches(73.5cm) And measures 20.5 inches by 20.5 inches(52cm) ~ Condition ~ There is a crack to the top of the piece. Some of the boards are slightly worn by age, it revolves with a bit of play but the piece appears to be in otherwise good condition. ~ HMS Foudroyant ~ HMS Foudroyant was an 80-gun third rate of the Royal Navy. One of only two British-built ... more80-gun ships of the period(the other was HMS Caesar(1793) Foudroyant was built at Plymouth Dockyard and launched on 31 March 1798.Note 1] Foudroyant served Nelson as his flagship from 6 June 1799 until the end of June 1801. Foudroyant had a long and successful career. And although she was not involved in any major fleet action, she did provide invaluable service to numerous admirals throughout her 17 years on active service. In her last years she was used as a boy's training vessel. In June 1897 she was towed to Blackpool. On 16 June 1897 during a violent storm. She parted a cable and dragging the remaining anchor, went ashore on Blackpool Sands, damaging Blackpool North Pier in the process. The Blackpool lifeboat was able to rescue all 27 of her crew. After vain attempts to refloat her. Her guns were removed and she was sold for ₤200. She finally broke up in the December gales. Globe Wernicke #299 Combination Unit Barrister Bookcase 12.25/10.25 4 Sections
We are pleased to offer this beautiful antique barrister bookcase. This is made by the Globe Wernicke Company. This is model# 299 and there are two sections that are D 10 1/4 and two sections that are D 12 1/4' There is a sticker on the back wall of all of the sections. The assembled piece measures 63.25" high and has a width of 34" and a depth of 12" This is the standard style with plain glass doors made from quarter sawn oak. This still has the original felt at the tops in between the sections. There is one section that is missing a piece that is about 2.5-3" wide. It also has the original brass hardware. This came from a Fitchburg. MA estate and has been in the same family since the original purchase in the early 1900's. There are some age appropriate splotches in the finish and light age and use associated ... morescratches and dings. There are paint specks on the base and there is a small piece of wood missing from the front. There is a split on the side of the top section as seen in the picture. Therre is also a burn in the wood. One of the brackets has some light rust on it and three of the knobs are replacements. There are two screw holes in one panel that it appears someone had attached something to it. This is a previously owned item and is being sold as shown. Since then. The wood has developed a lovely patina, which enriches the distinct walnut grain and deep, rich complexion. Paneled doors, carved trimming and turned feet form an elegant appeal that contributes to the antique charm of this walnut ... morebookcase armoire. Inside are four shelves and three drawers, each of which feature hand-cut dovetailed joints. While quite attractive and fully functional, this bookcase armoire has sustained some wear and wobbles as a result. Rare, Antique Shaw Walker Barrister Bookcase, glass front, 3 piece Pick up, SHIP
Rare. Highly collectible Antique Barrister bookcase from the reputable Shaw Walker company. Stackable 3 piece, glass fronts. I am not sure of the type of wood, either cherry or mahogany- this piece is from the early 1900's- it has been well preserved and taken care of. The front and sides have been painted with a black Ethan Allen paint to match the other furniture we have- the inside of each unit and the back has not been painted. The measurements are about 49 1/2 inches tall(stacked with the 3 pieces) 34 inches width, and the depth is 11 1/2 inches. The top has a small scratch in the paint that measures a few inches, but the wood is not scratched as far as I can see. You can either touch up this paint scratch or remove the paint all together and restore to the orginal wood.
