I think that the samples themselves could be cleaned up quite nicely with an upholstery cleaner. The metal binding& the staples that affix the little tags to each sample are rusty. Solid Walnut Early 1800's Blanket chest with unique inlays
Early 1800's solid Walnut( all six panels) blanket chest with very handsome geometric patterned inlays. The sides and bottom panels are one piece of walnut approximately one inch thick. They are beautifully dovetailed and still tight. Even the molded skirt is dovetailed. The top appears to be three pieces and about one inch thick with a rim of walnut pegged to it and extending down from the top to envelope the front and sides. The large area inlays are figured wood that shows a refined attention to detail and care. The fine lines of inlay are very well excecuted and refined. Open the top and revealed is a very nice box for storing smaller items. This blanket chest was refini shed many years ago so this is not the original finish- yet. It is a very beautiful. The original hinge has been replaced as well as a locking mechanism- they are ... morebrass. There are casters on the bottom also but of course can be removed if desired. IL- Far west Chicago suburbs) UP FOR AUCTION: A gorgeous. Vintage, Art Deco, walnut waterfall-style cedar-lined blanket or hope chest. Elegant contrasting veneer inlay work on front center. It's unmarked as to maker. I think it's likely circa early to mid-1900s. I believe it's in original condition. It has one interior. Multi-sectioned drawer on hinges(in need of minor repair-see below) It's constructed of walnut veneer with cedar lining, and secondary hardwood(s) The back is unfinished. Wonderful for storage and display or seating, it's both beautiful and superbly useful. CONDITION: Overall. I think it's in nice vintage condition. Solid and sturdy. Only the tiniest bit ... moreof veneer loss that I can see: a few tiny chips along the back edge. Minor nicks, imperfections normal to vintage furniture. It does have some flaws: 1) the top surface has superficial scratches and age-related splits in the veneer(but they seem shallow enough to me that I think just polyurethane(were the top refinished) and/or a walnut-tone pore filler would be enough to fill them for a flawless(or nearly so) top. 2) In the interior. Lid, left side, the wood affixing the screw supporting the pull-out shelf is stripped(please see photos; the drawer is just propped in place in the photo) so is in need of this repair. I'd probably suggest filling the oversized hole with wood scraps and glue to fill, then redrilling the hole(possibly a larger screw would work) this is left to the buyer. 3) The locks on these old chests pose a safety hazard to children(won't open from within; children can suffocate inside) and can't be sold with the lock in place. I've removed and discarded it. Leaving just the hardware(for aesthetics) so it simply opens and closes, and can be opened from inside. This original antique/vintage Lane Cedar Chest is a beautiful family heirloom. It is Style# 2120. Serial# 641260. Date of manufacture is Serial# in reverse: 06/21/46. It measures approximately 48" long x 18" wide x 18" high. I have included several pictures so you can see the overall condition. There are some light scratches on the lid and a few more on the front and sides. There are also a few small patches where the veneer has come off on the edges and one section(see 8th picture) where one of my children drew a couple of small pictures. This might be able to be restored. The interior is in very good condition. The lid opens smoothly and closes completely. Legs are solid and intact. At one point. The Lane Company issued a recall on the locks/latches of these chests so the lock has been removed. Very unusual 1600 century reproduction of an English"ARK" chest. The trunk chest could easily be confused as an Arts and Crafts chest with hand made construction techniques and exposed tenons and pegs. The blanket chest measures about 36" long x 18" deep x 20 1/2" tall. The tenons extend about 1" additionally on each side. The top and all sides are fastened with through tenons and pegs as pictured. The sides have lapped oak boards and the top has a slight angled"ark" type design. The chest is constructed of solid oak with what appears to be it's original finish. Antique large travel trunk. The steamer trunk has 16 whole and partial travel labels attached. The heavy duty trunk measures about 39" long x 21 1/2" deep x 24 1/2" tall and is in very good condition. There are normal signs of wear due to age and use. The trunk was cleaned and two coats of poly sealer were applied to the exterior. The patterned cloth interior was lightly cleaned. There are two original fitted storage trays. ANTIQUE PINE BLANKET CHEST DOVETAIL MED. WOOD TONE BUN FEET, 1800-1899, AMERICA
This is an uncommon size for a blanket chest in that it is approximately the same height& depth of the most usual chests. However its width is considerably more narrow. Placed among others, its uniqueness is readily apparent. The glove box is narrow and when open, will hold up the chest's lid. The corner dovetails are all hand cut. The bun feet tops are inserted into the base of the chest, with quite wide protrusions. Parts of the chest appear to be single board. It's a nice early piece that will generate interesting looks and conversations. Weight is guestimated about 40 pounds. Dimensions are- 31-1/2"W x 22"H& 19-1/2"D. I can deliver to a local shipper. This primitive antique blanket chest with old gray paint measures 33" wide x 15.5" deep x 16" high. On the bottom side it has a small leather band for securing a secret something-key. Money? Take a close look at the pictures to see the wear on the wood from use. Both ends, the front, back, and bottom are made from one board and the top is made from three tongue and goove boards. antique 1800's hand painted gothic mid evil wooden blanket chest this is one very neat old blanket chest. In 30 years of being in the business I have not seen one like this, it looks to be European by the hand painted scenes on the front. its all hand carved and hand decorated. its in good condition for its age with minor normal wear as you can see from the pictures,its also missing the lock. it has a few splits here and there but its gives it a lot of character. This lockset was exceptional in that it simply needed oiling to work properly. And a new key made. The key was entirely hand made from a solid piece of steel which I aged& heat treated in a special way to achieve the incredible looking wrought iron key I love the original hand wrought rimset(surface mounted) lockset including the spear shaped latch which goes into the lockset. The spring on the lockset is built like a battleship. It is very strong, an amazing feat for being 300 years old This chest has hand forged"rose head" wrought iron nails. They are original to the chest.there are some new reproduction rose head nails I used to secure the inside straps of the handles and the spear latch inside the lid. The character marks and graining of the pine is superb. I love the wormy tunnel marks in the wood throughout the chest, especially prominent on the back and lower sides. This blanket chest has been in my family for 50 years. It is an early primitive pine piece with lots of storage inside. It looks like it may have been stained red originally. Most of the color had faded. In very good condition and a real charmer. There are 3 old black burn rings on the top as seen in the last photo. The measurements are length 42"x width 18.5" x 20" height. A great size for a coffee table or end table.

Preserved in nearly untouched condition Item# 411DXP29A This unusually striking American Chippendale blanket chest is distinguished by the open dovetailing of the case. This following from the sides through the feet to accentuate the hand crafted nature of the object. Pennsylvania craftsmen during the late 18th century built these pieces to be family heirlooms that could pass from one generation to the next and the quality of craftsmanship was something they took pride in and openly advertised- while other work centers sought to hide the dovetail, being simply a means of joining one plank to another, clientele in this region expected excellent joinery and examined it as part of the purchase process. As a result, the dovetail became something of an art form, this ... moreexercised to it's fullest in the presentation of the case. Remaining in nearly undisturbed condition with only minor repairs. The chest retains not only it's original brasses and all original hardware but also untouched feet- these are beautiful statements of purity in construction, the entire underside revealing only wooden peg joinery with no glue or nails. A back foot support and accompanying block are separated from the underside, allowing you to see exactly how the blocking perfectly fits together inside of the foot(see pictures in the slideshow) The drawers are constructed in the typical manner of the region. The poplar secondary woods hand dovetailed in the frame with the two-board bottom half-lapped at the joint, chamfered along the sides and set in grooves, allowing them to expand and contract freely. They retain their original brasses and locks, though it is possible the middle drawer has a replaced bottom since the two planks are not half-lapped and the end grains show some variation. This hand painted old chest is 53" long. 21" wide, 21 1/2" tall and I'm not sure what type of wood it is. It is dated 1897 and there are some names and dates written on the inside of the lid. There is wear- the paint is mostly worn off of the top. The lock has been removed and the keyhole plugged, the screws in the hinges have been replaced, there is some wormwood and the candle box has been rebuilt. The bottom"feet" have some rot and someone cut the worst off so it would sit level. Even with the wear to the wood it is still very sturdy and strong. Antique Pine Blanket Chest / Carpenters Chest
Up for bid is a beautiful antique Pine Blanket Chest or Carpenters Chest. The chest measures 34 inches wide x 17 inches deep x 16 inches high. It has a raised top. The chest was refinished in the 1950’s. It is a nice warm brown tone on the outside and the interior is painted a pretty blue. It has the original iron handles on the sides and the original hinges. With the exception of the locking hinge to hold the top open. The chest has a split on the raised top. And the normal nicks for an antique piece, the all over look is very good.
