True to its history. The name and crosses have been“tacked” on several places, which adds a wonderful. Unique, flavor to this original piece. I have added question marks in several places due to the fact that I can’t be sure of age. Or the information on the card that was with the trunk. You decide. I believe it has the original stain finish and aged patina. Each side is made from a wide single chestnut plank board? Growth this size is becoming increasingly a thing of the past. Traditional hand made sides are dove tailed joined without nails. Lid is slightly warped. And is intact, but has loosened its side molding pieces. Beautiful Rare 1927 Antique Lane Cedar Hope Blanket Chest Style# 48910 This Lane Hope Chest was made on May. 9th 1927 In 1912 John Edward Lane bought a small packing-box plant in Altavista. Virginia at a bankruptcy auction for $500. Placed in charge of the small, corrugated iron building, his son Edward Hudson Lane decided to convert the facility in order to make cedar chests. The Lane family was unsure of what success they would have selling chests, so they originally named the company The Standard Red Cedar Chest Co. The firm manufactured and sold chests used to store linens and other items for setting up housekeeping, as well as keepsakes. Early production of about ten chests a day was sold through independent salesmen working on commission. In its early days. The business was run on a shoestring budget. Nearby buildings were rented as ... moredemand grew, with finished parts transferred from one building to another by means of a mule-drawn carriage. Ed Lane later recalled he was"one jump ahead of the sheriff most of the time. When a banker told him the company was insolvent, Lane asked him what that meant. Vintage Wicker Blanket Box Trunk Storage Ottoman Lloyd Loom chest bench
Get that great Vintage look and extra storage with this lovely off white vintage wicker blanket box in the style of Lloyd Loom. These were popular in the 50's and 60's in the UK and the edges would frequently be painted gold. It think that must have been the case with this one. Because there were flecks off gold paint in the trim. The wicker is small and firm, but still pliable. It is a tight weave. It has two rows and wicker trim where the lid and trunk meet. There is a wicker pull tab in front for convenience in opening the trunk. It has 4 nice mid century legs that lift it off the ground 4 inches. It is great for extra storage for craft projects. It has the great patina of age showing several coats of paint from its past with some worn down or distressed areas and still has the original turquoise paint inside. Antique Chippendale MULE BLANKET CHEST Seventeenth Century PICK UP ONLY
PICK UP ONLY- 30 miles north of Nashville. TN on I-65 N- White House, TN Exit 108. According to a similar chest I saw in a Book of Antiques. This chest could be circa 1735. I'm not saying for sure it's Chippendale, but it looks exactly like another one on Ebay that is Chippendale. It is"grain painted" with brass colored hardware. I think the key holes are covered with real brass and are original. The pull hardware and hinges have been changed once thru the years. I’m not sure what kind of wood it’s made of. It is 41" high- 45" across and 19 ½" deep. It’s in great shape. The top half of chest is for blankets- the last half is two drawers. It’s from my grandmother’s estate. It was appraised at $900. Danish modern style cedar chest by Lane in excellent condition. This mid century modern style blanket chest is completely cedar lined. Stands on sturdy walnut peg legs with brass caps, has a bottom pullout drawer and is totally original, excellent with just a couple small nicks. Outside measurements are 18 by 40 and stands 20 high. EARLY 1800'S ANTIQUE AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE BLANKET CHEST TRUNK DRAWERS GRAB LOCK
Here is a fabulous antique American early 19th century Chippendale style footed pine blanket chest or trunk with drawers below. This delightful old trunk is 48 inches long by 21 1/2 inches front to back and 27 1/2 inches tall. The top chest is internally 44 1/2 inches long by 18 1/4 inches front to back by 15 inches deep. With a small lidded compartment 18 1/4 inches long by 5 inches wide by 4 inches deep as shown. The two lower drawers are hand dovetailed as shown in close ups and measure 20 1/4 inches wide by 16 1/2 inches front to back by 4 inches deep. Again, as stated under condition, I've included a number of photographs in an attempt to accurately represent the design, quality, construction and condition of this great antique blanket chest. As far as provenance, my consignor has owned the trunk for a number of years and remembers ... moreonly that it was acquired through an estate sale. Specifically, this is what he told me was his recollection: The story I was told is that a woman named Bessie Hicks bought the trunk while visiting Muncie Valley PA in the 1950's after WWII. She brought it back to Atlanta GA where she lived. When her estate was broken up it made it's way to Miami and then to Charleston. He added. It appears to have some minor repairs around the feet. Also some sign of blue paint under the bottom. The lock is very fascinating and secured with rose head nails. Lock and key work nicely. That's about all I remember about it. Anyway. It's appearance is consistent with early 1800's Pennsylvania work in the Chippendale style so I chose to report this information. It is certainly a lovely antique blanket chest in very nice condition. Yellow Pine Secondaries Untouched original condition Item# 130002FHK19 This piece is simply a treasure- an untouched and entirely original American Federal Period Antique Blanket Chest crafted during the first quarter of the 19th Century. Almost certainly in Pennsylvania. It features six-board construction. Every junction dovetailed for a permanent and flexible join throughout. The surface is dry and well patinated, almost certainly the original painted surface; the history of this antique blanket chest, how it was enjoyed and used over the last two hundred years, is tattooed in the stains, abrasions and oxidized scars across it's fine dark red painted finish. The top projects over the chest with applied molding along the facing edges. This ... morewith a scratched-channel giving form to the molding, the lid lifting over original square iron hinges with untouched screws. The iron lock and catch are still original to the chest, though the key has since been lost; a crescent is worn in the underside of the top where the lid of the till has scraped over the years, this same surface inscribed" Jennise A Bowman" Vanessa C. Roscoe" along with earlier mostly illegible inscriptions and numbers. Bringing harmony to the molded top is the opposing molding of the base. The dovetailed feet are crafted such to showcase the most attractive perspective of the dovetail on the forward facing surfaces; the sides join the front board with half-blind dovetails, leaving the forward facing surface of the board unblemished by visible dovetailing. Antique Baldwin Pine Blanket Chest / Hope Chest with Square Nails
This auction features an antique blanket or hope chest by Baldwin. There is no major damage just the normal wear and tear over the years. It does have a couple of pieces of scotch tape on the top with a couple of small dry splits in the wood. But I'll leave that to the professionals to fix. Queen Anne Blanket Chest of Drawers on Later Frame, Poss. American, 18th Century
American Queen Anne Mule(Blanket) Chest on Frame over Two Drawers Predominantly 18th Century with Modern Alterations and later stand Item# 130101PYW27 This is a Queen Anne Period Mule Chest over Two Drawers on a Pad Foot Frame. The upper case circa the mid-18th Century, the stand a 19th Century addition. The two board top is framed in an applied projecting molding, lifting over original strap hinges with mostly hand forged screws to reveal a large clean interior. The two top drawers are faux, the lower two hand dovetailed with deeply chamfered bottoms that rabbet into the side, replaced hardware fitted in the original holes on each drawer; all secondary woods on the drawers are poplar. The backboards are mostly undisturbed with a few added nails, mostly being lined with original hand forged iron nails. This is a fine selection for decorators ... morelooking for an authentic look and deep patina. Though it is not a collector quality work. A very practical piece for the bedroom as well as a living room influenced by Colonial decor, it is a chest of drawers you can enjoy actively and use functionally in your home for a lifetime. Measurements: total height is 56 1/4" case 43 1/8" wide x 38" high x 18" deep; stand 19 1/2" high x 18 3/4" deep x 44 1/2" wide Condition Report: Finish is not original with later layers of wax on it. The colors a bit variated. Modern alterations: lower drawer rebuilt, replaced brasses(using original holes) and somewhat mismatched, top is possibly replaced, stand is later. Back left leg of the stand has a slight gap and some wiggle- this should be blocked out or reglued at some point for stability, though it currently does not pose a problem. Large triangular patch to walnut on left side of case, small strip at back of left side of case also later and a bit loose. No key, the receiving latch absent from the lid. I get most of my items at estate auctions and sell them in an"as found" condition. I do no repairs. Alterations and very little cleaning. This is done in the belief that most buyers prefer to receive them as original as possible. Because the items I sell can come from anywhere. I can't guarantee they all come from smoke free environments. DESCRIPTION: The existing color is mustard but there are several colors underneath. Including a coat of blue and another coat of salmon. One of those two is probably the original color of the chest. It is not a dove-tailed chest but it's tight and sound. It does have damage on one of the corners of the lid(see photos) and there is some evidence that some gouges on the lid were filled at one time, and not an expert job. The piece is old enough that the the hand plane marks can be felt on ... morethe interior. The piece probably is no more recent than the mid 1800's and could be older. It is about 47" in length, 16" in width and about 17 1/4" in height. It comes straight from a farm barn near Odessa, Missouri. The metal handles are original but the hinges are not and do not match. Antique primitive or country blanket chest with bracket feet. Simple six-board construction with an unusual half-moon cutout to create the feet at each end. The lift top is held in place by modern steel H-Hinges and a brass finished rest that keeps it from reclosing unexpectedly. Beautiful aged red wash finish. There are large iron nails holding the chest together that look like they are handmade. This piece is in good condition. Especially considering its age. Very Primitive 17th Century Pilgrim blanket Chest
This is a very primitive chest that is 45" long. 22" deep, and 24 inches tall. It is beech, with a replaced top(long ago) of pine. It has traces of blue paint in places mostly on the front. The rear feet are about an inch shorter than the front ones. The chest has that wonderful dry surface that we love so much. I got this in New England. Featuring double locks and two levels. This beautiful Hope Chest is multi-functional and a great collectors piece! The first shelf has four felt compartments including one large area that you can strap down a blanket or anything really! The largest compartment under the first shelf is lined with thick paper with holes. This method is used to protect both the cedar and any items stored. Articles and cloths along with other items can stick to the cedar and possibly ruin both. The lining helps the cedar breath. And keeps items from attaching to the wood. The entire Chest has wood inlay around the body. And lovely carved embellishment around the edges.
