I bought this chest in an antique store in Connecticut according to the seller that piece is from England but it could be an early New England piece and it's over 100 years old. Condition: one hinge is broken. One hinge is loose and the molding is starting to separate from one corner of the lid(see pictures) The cover(lid) has some scratches on it. There are some splits in the wood on the inside bottom of the chest and a few on the lid(see pictures) It is 19” deep x 42” long x 21”high. It has hand cut molding around the bottom and molding around 3 sides of the cover. The hinges are the original hand wrought iron. Inside there is a till box. It has handmade dovetail joineries indicating that it is an early piece. The original handmade lock with key is still in it. Here a fine mid 19th century Pennsylvania blanket chest. Perhaps it was a wedding present for Marion and Leroy. It is constructed of pine with all surfaces painted with the exception of the inside and bottom. It is a very nice display size with outside measurements of 36" wide. 22" tall and 18" deep. The folk painted surfaces have some wear as shown and there is fine crazing/ oxidation attributable to the age. Very fine shape for 164 years old. Nice forged strap hinges. Antique 1667 German Oak Hammered Iron Traveling Trunk. Measures 44" wide by 25" high by 23" depth. NOT a reproduction. My parents bought this over from a trip to Europe in 1971. Extremely sturdy. Very little damage, just on some of the iron and I have the small the piece that is missing from the left bottom, it needs to be reattached. No key. There are two U-shaped pieces that would attach the trunk to a coach in the back. I have the shipping manifest with the shipping date of Feb. 1972 when my parents shipped it from Germany. This is obviously a very heavy piece(I guesstimate more than 150 pounds) and would need to be shipped by a freight carrier. Up consideration is a mid 19th Century 6 board pine Blanket Box. The piece measures 17 1/2 inches deep by 24 3/4 inches high with a length of 42 1/2 inches long. This chest is dated 1847 and signed R. Wiggins. This type of work or paint was added to Antiques in the early 60's when there suddenly became a renewed interest in American Antiques. It is signed R. Wiggins in the lower left cartouche. If one looks closely on the front one can see the original paint underneath with some fancy scrolling lettering. Please see photos. The box is clean. Large full-sized 20th century Chinese blanket chest or trunk made of solid Rosewood in an antique or traditional style. The chest is quite substantial and sturdy; it measures 40" long x 21" deep x 22 1/2" high. It is of quality construction. And in very good to excellent condition. The chest is made of solid rosewood. And not veneer, and is finished on all 4 sides plus top; with a cedar lined inside. The style is classic with subtle Asian touches evident in the brass latch hardware. And the feet of the chest. There are no carvings. The hardware is solid brass. It has a classic look. Never goes out of style, mixes well with modern or traditional decor. This is a beautiful vintage Lane cedar chest from 1965. This chest isn't typical of Lane designs. It has a very sleek mid century modern look. The chest is walnut wood lined with cedar. It has a storage tray on the inside for smaller items. The chest measures 20-1/4" tall, 53-1/4" long and it is 17-5/8" deep. It is in excellent condition with no damage. On close inspection it shows a few scratches and there is a ding on the back right corner, nothing outstanding though. This chest comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. It is clean and ready to use. Per the Consumer Product Safety Commission(CPSC) Full size chests manufactured between 1912-1987 need to have their locks replaced or removed due to the fact that the original locks automatically latch shut when closed and children can become entrapped. CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE PAINTED BLANKET CHEST OF DRAWERS Pennsylvania. C. 1790-1810; Nearly Untouched Item# 1406IPP23A This absolute jewel remains in nearly pristine condition. Retaining a very early and almost certainly original painted surface with untouched structure and rugged charm. Crafted in Pennsylvania, the style of the hinges and drawer construction suggest the form could be as late as 1810. The heavy and eternal construction, typical of the state, is lightened by the whimsical nature of the painted surface. The whole is framed nicely between the crackled and worn brown top and dark(possibly brown) feet and base molding- the facade is divided evenly into thirds, the upper two-thirds decorated in a speckled ochre embellished ... moreby brilliant red rectangular panels with inset corners spaced evenly around the midriff. A thin molding divides the lower one-third, this with a muted earthy red pigment with ochre speckles grounding the three drawers- these have a beautiful teal pigment, the same tone employed in much of the thin molding. Construction of the form is typical of the Southeastern counties of Pennsylvania. The top with open tongues on either end finished in breadboard ends affixed with three wedged through-tenons; note the face of the tenon is left open along the front of the chest, exposing the quality of craftsmanship. This lifts over a pair of wrought iron strap hinges, these moved just slightly to account for shrinkage of the top over time. The interior is clean other than a single till, craftily constructed to conceal three tiny drawers in a compartment beneath the primary space, accessed by lifting upward on the front panel. All three drawers are constructed of poplar, the bottoms deeply chamfered and the backs nailed along the back edge. Vintage Lane Waterfall Chest This is a fantastic vintage Lane waterfall cedar chest. This beautiful piece was made by Lane in April of 1952. The front of the chest features inlaid veneer panels of burled wood. The interior of the chest is in excellent condition. The interior tray is lined with felt. Which has some general scratches and wear. The lid to the chest operates smoothly. The chest is marked on the bottom with the style number 2815-3 and the serial number 251040. Inside the top lid is the Lane marking. Also listed are the place of manufacture(Altivista. VA) and a list of relevant patent numbers, the most recent being 2355542. This is in fantastic condition overall with some general signs of age and use. There are various scratches and spots of wear on the top surface. There are a couple of small chips in the veneer. One on the top ... moreleft and one on the front of the bottom lip. There is some damage to the wood just above both of the front feet. There is some surface cracking on the curved portion of the lid, which is only visible upon close inspection. These flaws do little to remove from the overall appearance of the chest. An old original Victorian blanket box. As its well over a hundred years old. It will have marks, old wood worm holes, small bows and splits but I think it all adds charm. The box was fully treated for woodworm to be safe and secure from any little beasties several weeks ago Inside has the original fish tail hinges and it still has its lock and upper keep in the lid but the key is long gone lost over time The chest has a nice shiny bri wax finish. Its a early example made from pine not heavy very light to lift. Unlike later examples. One side has trim on the edge the other does not see pictures. I bought this solid black walnut blanket chest 33 years ago. And now have no place to display it. It was built by a very talented craftsman, who also used dovetailed joints and some wooden pins. I was told that it was from the Civil War period. Item measures about 26" high, 19" wide, and 49" long. The finish hasn't been redone/ altered since before I bought it, so chest is a bit dull appearing. Chest has normal wear and some dings, etc. as to be expected. The value when I bought it was placed at least $500.00 and that is my price. The inside is lined with nice paper(please see images) Approximate Date: 19th or 20th. century Approximate Size: 38 inches high with the feet, 33 inches high without the feet 39-1/2 inches wide, 20 inches deep. Nationality: Korean Markings: Engraved designs on metal. see images) Condition: Looks very good. Some time. Probably mid 20th. century, four contemporary feet were added. These are clearly added with blocks of wood beneath and can easily be removed. There are some scratches in the top. Notes: We were at a local Estate sale recently and came away with many interesting items. Including this chest. According to his Granddaughter, the man who lived in the house ... morehad started a school in Korea in the early 20th. century. There were a lot of neat things from the Orient in the house! I don't know much about this type of stuff, but will do my best to describe it. From my google research, I think this chest is called a Bandaji, which is a blanket storage chest. It is profusely mounted with decoratively engraved brass panels. It also features a great 3 dimensional fish which is the lock. It comes with a Korean style key, that we figured out how to use with google, and it works great. The engraved and mounted details include, Roosters; flowers, birds and symbols. 40" Antique Asian Carved Camphor Wood Trunk Blanket Chest w/Dove Tail Corners
Gorgeous. Completely carved All over, vintage camphor chest. The largest I have seen at 40" long, 19" deep and 23.5" high with the feet attached, 19" without feet. Notice the fitted dovetail corners which gives rounded edges instead of sharp ones. Some signs of wear in the varnish consistent with age but it actually looks even better in person. The HD pictures actually pick out flaws you don't notice with the naked eye. It would make a beautiful coffee or accent table. It comes with original brass hard wear and the padlock/key. Vintage Lane Cedar Chest. With Hepplewhite type drawer pulls. Has two faux drawers and one full functioning drawer on the bottom. This chest needs refinishing or some work. They put a television on top of it and it caused severe scratching across(see pictures. the top. There is also scrape-like marks with what feels like bubbled paint remenants on both sides. The chest is sturdy. It closes and locks. But we dont have the key. There is small bit of peel to the bottom of the inside laminate on bottom inside(picture) It has the all original Lane signs and disclosures inside the chest. This could be a really beautiful piece of American Furniture History with a little fixing up. The good thing about this chest is it does not bear any smells. It doesnt appear used much, but it looks banged around in transport. We are not shipping this item, however, ... moreif you would like to make shipment arrangements, please contact us.
