It does have some light surface scratches and wear from general use, but no major damage or gouges. It has beautiful grain, some carved accent details, and is designed in a way that the grain of different sections runs in different directions, which gives it a uniquely beautiful look. It was made by the Roos Company in Illinois, and has a partial original label on the bottom, which has the serial number. The chest is 18.5” tall, 44” long, 19” wide, and 11” deep when the lid is open. It is made to lock, however, there is not a key with it.

Through dovetails on the front, and blind dovetails on the back. The blind dovetails on the back is a unusual feature, which requires more cabinetmaking skill than the standard dovetail. Super clean interior. With the original iron lock, key, hinges and brass escutcheon. This blanket chest is a wonderful size. 44" wide, 24" tall, 21" deep. Condition: Very fine clean condition. Minor dings and scratches. The right side lid back edge. Has a stabilised split in the wood, near the hinge mounting, it is fine at the moment, but might want to get fixed with glue and clamps. the keeper is broke, and the chest will not lock shut. Early 19th Century Blanket Chest, Black Paint with Painted Floral Design
I bought this chest almost 40 years ago. I am not a dealer in furniture and this is the only early American piece that I have. I was told it is an early 19th century blanket chest made in Pennsylvania. What I like about the chest is the painted floral design on the top and the fact that it is large and great storage. A hinged box is built in to hold candles. And are slots underneath them that were probably used for valuables. It measures 25" high, 51" long and 23" wide. Forged iron hinges allows the top to be opened and closed. The iron handles on the side are solid and can be used to lift and move the chest. Now that I have moved. I do not have room for this chest. Antique Miniature Blanket Chest Old estate find. This is a nice, well made wood miniature blanket chest box. There is a raised panel on the top, and several layers of decorative moldings. Dark wood finish, I am not sure what the wood is, maybe walnut. Inside the chest has a little side til with a lid that flips up, and there is a lock and key. I am not sure if the lock is original to the piece. The lock does work and the key is included. Very nice antique condition, some wear to the finish as you would expect from years of use. CONTINENTAL. CIRCA 1690-1740 IN BEECH, POPLAR AND PINE. A WONDERFUL EARLY CHEST WITH VERY EARLY STILE AND PANEL CONSTRUCTION. THE ORIGINAL TOP IS SECURED WITH EARLY PINTLE TYPE HINGES. This great chest was probably made as a Wedding or Anniversary Chest in the later part of the 17th or the early part of the 18th century. It is carved with Tulips and Flowers on the front. Along each stile. The top and also the rails are carved sawtooth and hash mark designs. It is made in the late 17th century manner. It is all riven panels set within a molded stile ... moreand rail constructed carcass. It has some of its original rose head nails as well as many later nails for added support. This same type of construction was used here in the colonies in the 17th century as well. The paint is a wonderful mid 19th century BLUE paint. It appears that the blue paint was the first painted surface. the interior is a later Spanish Brown paint. The carving on the front. Sides, top and rails are all original to the piece. The back side also has some similar carving, but by a later hand) It has the date 1852 as well as some words or names, Nae She Vasil. we can't make them out. It dates the Blue paint to around the time of the carving, C1852. The size is wonderful. Made to sit on a chest or table it is only about 24" wide. It exhibits only the typical wear and tear you would see from 300 years of use as I have shown in the photos. It has some added 19th century nails and the two dowel pintle rods are replaces. WOW.When I saw this I was just blown away by it. First thing was the size. Most blanket chests are big. And bulky. This chest is a great size. It is 37" high x 35" wide x 15" deep. The 2nd thing was the condition. The condition is A1. Some very minor scratches and that's it. The 3rd thing that caught my attention was the quality. The design( a true copy of an 18th century blanket chest) and craftsmanship is top shelf. And THEN.the painting. It is signed, and I can't make it out, but whoever did it was really good. It was probably a commissioned piece. The print that will come with it( that was in the blanket chest) is of the Essex Merrimack suspension bridge, in Newburyport Ma. I have had this for 18 years and never noticed it to be a Blanket/ Dower chest. It came from my Grandmother who was born in East Petersburg Pa and lived most of her life in and around Lancaster Pa. It though it was just a trunk she stored stuff in. It has had all the trim and feet removed and was repainted brown over the years. The current brown paint appears to be very old though. I never noticed it has initials on top/ lid. I can make out YPCC. The CC is heavily worn and may be incorrect. I am sure about the YP. It is Dovetailed on corners. The lid looks like it may have split at one time and 2 bats were fastened to it to keep it together. This was done a long time ago also because they now have heavy wear also. The underside of the lid has Samuel K Wagner written in pencil. It also has a few other pencil marks. It has a till box that had ... morea lid at one time but it is no longer with it. You can see the holes for mounting the lid as well as the wear marks where it wore on lid of chest. It has 4 holes in bottom that at one time had feet in them but are now filled with an unknown material. It has 2 handles on sides but 1 is broken. The bottom is very heavily worn with period square nail heads visible. The lid and bottom boards are solid 1 piece and are 17 7/8 inches wide. 1 inch thick and 36 inches long. The chest measures 17 7/8 inches tall, 36 inches in length and 17 3/4 inches wide. It has heavy wear and scratches from years of use. It has no lock but does have a latch type closure on lid. The 2 lid hinges appear correct and original. I am not sure but the initials on lid could possibly mean York Pennsylvania with the other 2 initials being the owners name. I am not sure. There also may be more painting under the brown paint although no other painting is visible. I do notice that under the broken side handle there is black paint that is possibly the original color. No other major issues to note. Possibly a great restoration project. Unfortunately my grandmother never told me where it came from so I don't know

Antique Vintage wood blanket chest trunk from 1800s
This beautiful solid pine trunk is from the late 1800's. It has the original hardware. Due to its age and material it has a little of the lower molding missing on one side(see photo 2) This is part of its charm. There are two small drawers inside the trunk. I found a nail. As pictured, in the drawer and similar ones in the chest itself showing its age. There is a crack that runs across P art the top of the trunk but doesn't affect its use. Lid closes and o pens. It is sturdy enough to be carried by the handles and a solid piece. No water damage. It would be a great coffee table or blanket chest. The patina is nice and its a beautiful piece from the past. Painted on three sides with a beautiful traditional floral motif. I believe at least the ends have been painted with a vinegaring technique. The box is probably made of pine and the top is cracked, appears to have been repaired(maybe with a bit of putty? in a couple of places, and has damage at the corners. The hinges are newer but the original early 1800's metal straps are still intact, as are the handles at either end, and there are the best reenforcing metal pieces at the corners. Antique ornately carved blanket chest.
Here is a great old small carved blanket chest. It is quite unusual in design and I have never seen one like it. And I doubt if the reader has either! Please see all the pictures! It measures 32"W x 20 1/8"D x 32 1/2"W. The inside dimensions are 28" W x 16"D x 8"H. There are normal signs of antique wear and there is an age crack across the decorative back panel. There is also an age crack that runs across the lift up door. There is a ring to pull open the top. But it is loose and needs to be glued in. I am sorry I am not sure what type of wood this is made of, but its a fairly heavy hardwood. This chest has been painstakingly carved by a craftsman. I have up for sale a very nice vintage original circa 1920s- 40s Cedar Chest. The chest is in very clean original condition! It measures approx 45-1/4" long. 20" deep, approx 19-1/2" tall which includes the 1" castor height. The chest is in Excellent Condition- nice clean original finish- strong& sturdy- has a flat top which would be strong enough to sit on- that is unless you are over 300 lbs then I would not advise it. Some normal light age wear as one would expect. The only damage to note is a fairly inconspicuous chip/ slivered off piece- located on the front lower right. Shown up close in pics 10& 12. This is not something that is very noticeable at all, the sliver was done many years back and it has been stained over and the only way you will notice it, is if you look upclose with scrutiny. ANTIQUE WALNUT BLANKET CHEST FROM THE 1700'S RESTORED
I was told blanket chest was brought from Connecticut to Ohio in the 1700's on an ox cart. It had a lot of paint on it when I got it. They wanted a small fortune to strip it so I did it. I've been refinishing antique furniture for years. I put a lot of time into it because I think this chest is so special. There was the old blue paint under the green and black and some of it remained in the wood. I hoped it would show through the varnish but it just gives it this great look. A back strip of wood was added through the years and the hinge placement was changed. I don't change these things, it's part of it's history, you just have to be careful not to swing the back too far. It could set close to a wall or a safety hinge could be put on.
