It is made of quartered oak with an antique oak finish and brass hardware. ... moreThe gold"Globe" stenciling still remains on the top of the unit. The dimentions are 18' deep. 17.5 wide and 31.5' tall. It is fully functional and the file cabinet unit and the card catalog drawers work as intended with the original hardware remaining. Condition: Good original condition with the usual age related scratches and blemishes to the finish. There is dark staining and a little rippling to the veneer on the top. Most of the finish is definately originial. But I'm really not sure if the sides of the file cabinet unit have been refinished at some point. They have the same type of wear as the rest of the unit, but are noticibly lighter than the patina on the rest of the pieces. The brass side bands have oxidation on parts of them. Shipping: Good news.I have all the packing materials and therefore will not charge a wrapping fee. Bad news.this is a heavy piece. About 60 lbs all packaged up so will be expensive to ship. From an estate sale. A 5-section barriester bookcase with base and top. The top 3 sections are regular bookcases, the bottom two sections each have 3 file cabinet drawers. Patent date 1917. Overall outside dimensions are 41.5" wide, 17" deep, and 79" tall. The inside dimensions of the bookcase shelf: 15.5" between the back and the back face of the door, 40" wide, and 10" tall to the bottom of the door when it is rolled up- that is, the*useful* height that you could fit a book in. I did some google research and couldn't find a standard size the corresponded to these dimensions. So they may be a custom unit. Very deep, but pretty short. There's nail holes on the fronts of the file drawers, looks like they used to have handles, and probably also brass frames for putting a label in. So you might want to replace ... morethose. I am listing three stacking bookcases this week so please check my other listings. Here is an Exceptional Antique Sectional Bookcase made by Gunn Manufacturing of Grand Rapids. Michigan in the early 1900s. This 4 stack bookcase is in Original finish Mahogany and is designed in the Queen Anne Style with broken arch top and pad/slipper foot on cabriolet legs. The two bottom sections meaure 11 inches tall, the two top sections measure 9 inches tall. The Bookcase measures 69-3/4 inches tall overall when fully assembled. The widest area is at the base, measuring 34-3/4 inches wide and 14-1/4 inches deep. Each individual book section measures 32-3/4 inches wide and is 13-1/4 inches deep. The desk part is 13.5" tall, the mid glass section is 9.5" tall, the bottom glass is 13.25" and the base with the pull out drawer is 6.75" tall. This is in nice shape. The top does has some stains and spotting, the back does as well. The secretary desk part looks complete and the working key is also included. Shaw Davis was one of the top furniture makers of high quality office furniture. They employed well known designers and are known for their Mid Century Modern styles. Antique mission oak barrister 2 stack bookcase refinished outside painted inside
This 2 section barrister bookcase has been refinished on the outside maybe 20 years ago and painted on the inside and on the back in a blue/grey sort of color. Probably done at the same time as the finish. The spots that might have revealed the maker name have paint on them so I am selling it as maker unknown. In addition to the 2 sections, it comes with the original top or crown, and a base with drawer. It also features metal side straps between each section and the scissor mechanism for the doors. No problems with the 2 glass doors. In fact, I see no problems at all. With the square straight legs it is very mission looking and being from about 100 years ago, I think we can safely call it authentic mission furniture in every way except the finish, although a lot of mission furniture WAS this color when it was new. The joints are all tight ... moreand all sections lock together easily and correctly. While only a 2 stack, it is a big 2 stack with each section able to take books as much as 13 1/2 inches tall. The over all measurement are 34 inches wide as most of these are, and with base and crown a total of 45 inches tall. It is a full 14 inches deep from knobs to back. I am listing this as local pick up only. BUT there are shipping/delivery options for you to chose from. RI delivery is $50 MA or CT. $100 If you are beyond those states.
