Probably done at the same time as the finish. The spots that might have revealed the maker name have paint on them so I am selling it as maker unknown. In addition to the 2 sections, it comes with the original top or crown, and a base with drawer. It also features metal side straps between each section and the scissor mechanism for the doors. No problems with the 2 glass doors. In fact, I see no problems at all. With the square straight legs it is very mission looking and being from about 100 years ago, I think we can safely call it authentic mission furniture in every way except the finish, although a lot of mission furniture WAS this color when it was new. The joints are all tight and all sections lock together easily and correctly. While only a 2 stack, it is a big 2 stack with each section able to take books as much as 13 1/2 inches tall. The over all measurement are 34 inches wide as most of these are, and with base and crown a total of 45 inches tall. It is a full 14 inches deep from knobs to back. I am listing this as local pick up only. BUT there are shipping/delivery options for you to chose from. RI delivery is $50 MA or CT. $100 If you are beyond those states. This barrister/ lawyer's case has a thick glass window that lifts and slides into the case. And and overall rugged and sturdy design that was built to last many decades of office abuse. It has a classic putty gray exterior finish and an olive drab green interior. I can't find a maker's stamp anywhere, only an old Georgia Power tag inside and a sticker designating it for the Engineering& Architecture dept. The glass door still slides and operates smoothly, and there are no dents or serious cosmetic damage. There is some rust on the underside of the cabinet, which can be seen in the last photo above. Antique Barrister Bookcase 4 Stacking Bookcases With Bottom Drawer
Up for auction is a lovely antique barrister stacking bookcase. This lovely piece has 4 stacking bookcases. With one drawer on the bottom. The piece measures 34" wide, 57.5" tall, and 11" deep. All the cases slide open with ease still. One of the cases has a small chip along the edge of the glass, the chip does not go all the way through the glass however. There is normal wear and tear on this piece given the age and use, but only minor wear and scratches. I have shown various pictures of the like. There are holes drilled into the back of one of the cases with writing, it is also shown in the pictures. The drawer is missing the bottom of it as well. Let me know if there are any other questions. Original Bookcase Knob This knob was removed from a Globe Wernicke barrister bookcase. The knob pictured is the knob you will receive. Knob is just like it was removed and has not been cleaned. I know it's an original because I am the person who removed it. This is part of my formerly"not for sale" personal stash of parts. I have been working on antique furniture for 30 years and my father longer than that. I do not call myself an expert but have done hundreds of stackers and consider myself fairly knowledgeable on parts. Dimensions: 9/16" diameter top. 5/16" diameter base. 5 stack quartered oak barrister bookcase leaded glass stepback--14162
This is a very nice five stack graduated stepback barrister quartered oak bookcase. This case was manufactured by Globe Wernicke; a competitor of Macey and some of the other bookcase makers. Sometimes called a lawyers bookcase or stacking bookcase. This quartered oak unit retains the original Globe labels. Bookcase contains four different sizes of cases(stacks) to accommodate different size books(or whatever) This unit also has a stepback bottom unit which is deeper-quite useful. This unit has been professionally refinished and restored-a beautiful smooth and even finish. Note the'leopard' bands connecting each section. The top four sections are 11 deep and the large bottom section is 14 deep. The top section is 9.5 high. The middle two sections are 11.5 high The next section is 13.5 high. The bottom section is 14.5 high. Overall ... moresize of the piece is 34 wide. 74.5 high, and 14.5 deep(all sizes approximate) A GREAT BOOKCASE! ANTIQUE MACEY 98 STACKING BARRISTER BOOKCASE TOP SECTION QUARTER SAWN OAK
Here is a single stacking barrister bookcase top section dating from the Mission. Arts& Crafts era. Made of quarter sawn oak and is marked Macey 98(see pics) The original hardware is all intact and the door works fine, glass not cracked. Total measurement(including top piece) is 34" long x 12" wide x 14 1/4" high. There are some finsh losses and scuffs, with a small long gap and small losses to back side corner areas, otherwise it is in very good condition. See calculated cost for shipping charge and options.
