This outstanding stacking desk bookcase ... moreis one of the nicest we have ever seen. It has leaded glass windows in the top two sections below the molded top. The carved fall board has a key that opens or locks the desk section. Inside are two strong desk lid supports and a nice set of pigeon holes with a single pencil drawer-fitted interior. The desk section sits above two full width drawers. The top drawer is shaped to fit the curve. The second drawer is carved to accent the fall board. Both drawers have original brass handles. The lowest section is an extra tall one with a"blind" door or wood paneled door to prevent breakage from feet. The entire piece sits on a molded base section. Quartersawn oak is showcased through the entire piece which is in excellent condition. I believe this case was made by the Viking Company. Overall dimensions are 34 wide, 15 deep, and 69 high. Although we have sold hundreds of interesting barrister bookcases over the years, we have never seen this model before. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. These shelves were previously owned by a retired judge for Mercer county. The metal side bands are all present and genuine with no rust, and have not had the original patina polished away as some have. The oak wood shows an all original finish with a wonderfully rich coloring- it has not been refinished, or retouched in any way. Condition: Used Location: Ashland, United States Up for bid is a wonderful 6-stack Globe Wernicke lawyers or barristers bookcase made of quartersawn oak. All sections are the very desirable Grade 299(quarter ... moresawn/tiger oak with the medium finish) Has the very desirable ogee(curved) top and bottom. All sections are size D-10 1/4. Bookcase is ALL ORIGINAL. Original finish. Original wavy glass, original knobs on the doors. Bookcase is ALL COMPLETE. All labels are present and intact. All glass is present(no cracks or breaks) All felt along the tops of the doors is complete and intact. All scissors mechanisms are present. All acid-etched side bands are correct and present. I rescued over 20 sections from a storage room of an old Chicago school library, and these 6 sections were in the best condition. Condition of the sections is way above average for their age. After 100 years the finish on these cases has usually"alligatored" Not here. Although there are the usual scratches and chips in the finish, which is to be expected(there is a rub of white paint on the right side of one section shown in the photos) the outside finish is overall extremely smooth with a nice gloss. The very top has the most wear and scratches as the librarians slid and stacked items on top of the cases. There is also the reside from 2 old pieces of cellophane tape on the front of the top. I can find no delamination of the back panels, nor any bubbling of the veneer on the very top. Being in a library for so many years has preserved them nicely. Overall size of the bookcase is 84" tall x 34" wide x 12" deep. If you need more photos. Or have additional questions, please email me. Antique 3 Section Stacking Lawyer's Barrister Bookcase
Lawyer's or Barrister's stacking sectional glass-front bookcase from the early part of the 1900's. Dark wood exterior. That I believe was refinished about 20 years ago. The interiors are natural(light) wood. The wood and finish are in very nice condition. All of the glass doors operate correctly, and serve to keep valuable books clean and dust-free. There are no water rings or other marks in the wood. Bookcase is comprised of 5 pieces; a base unit that stands approximately 9 inches from the floor. One tall bookcase section that is 14.25 inches tall, and two regular bookcase sections that are 10.50 inches tall. The fifth piece is a decorative top cap that finishes off the unit. The bookcase was made in the U.S. by F.E. Hale Manufacturing in Herkimer New York, sometime after 1907. Hale Manufacturing is still in business today making ... morebookcases, in Frankfort NY. Stow Davis was one of the top furniture makers of high quality office furniture. They employed well known designers and are known for their Mid Century Modern styles. This Macey tiger quartered oak doublewide(barrister) 5-stack bookcase with wooden panes(panels) is a fantastic piece. In great working order; all door mechanics functioning. Ca 1900-1920. Stamped Macey(Fred Macey Mfg Co) Very good to excellent overall condition nicely aged patina inside and out early dark finish and door glass looks to be all original. The close up photos provide extent of wear. But the four photos from 3 to 6 feet of the entire piece and both sides give an idea of the overall appeal. Two small bottom door knobs not original. Top has scratches/scuffs. The bottom legs have dings and normal wear to the finish. Up for your consideration is this very nice antique bookcase I purchased at an estate/consignment auction. It is around 51" high. 34" wide and 11" deep. It has glass pulls which I don't know if they are original or not. The stacks come apart easily and I can't find anything wrong with the piece. It does have a few nicks/scratches but nothing significant. Glass appears to be original. Could use a good cleaning but felt that was better done by the buyer. Has the step back board, compatible with"E" or"D" size stacks. Quarter sawn oak. Uses a hinge/slide system nearly identical to the early Globe system. NO door knob or glass. This is a top from a Macey barrister stacking bookcase. It is marked#93 on the bottom. It measures aprox. 34" wide x 12 1/2" deep, 11 1/2" deep on the bottom. Overall it is in good condition. We also have some other tops and doors presently listed. It is available for pickup or can be delivered by Fed Ex ground for 18.80 to the lower 48 states. Set of 4 Stacking Steel Barrister Cabinets Base and cap included Someone had painted this set a navy blue color. But the original gray finish shows through in areas. Appropriate wear includes scratches. Dings and scuffs. Glass is intact. Most likely Globe Wernicke Cabinets. But labels are either removed or painted over. Original Bookcase Knob The knob pictured is the knob you will receive. Knob is just like it was removed and has not been cleaned. I know it's an original because I am the person who removed it from the bookcase. Can't recall what brand it came off of but we mostly dealt in Globe Wernicke. Macey, Gunn, Imperial, Lundstrom, Viking& Nicholson. We of course bought others but in fewer numbers. Dimensions: 5/8" diameter top. 5/16" diameter base. Protrudes 15/32" Condition: Nice.
