It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. A Fantasic Domed Trunk from the 1890s. The design is floral with embossed metal. Similiar to this coming from Paris during the same time frame. The hardware is in tact. The only thing missing are the leather side handles which dried off. It is a beautiful Art Nouveau style trunk that would go for thousands if it had the Louis Vuitton markings. Nevertheless. Don't know if this one ever had an interior tray or not- I don't see any evidence of it. The two locking clasps work fine. No key for lock. This is a wonderfully decorated China Trade Export Trunk that is crafted from aromatic camphor wood. Brass trimmed, and tacked for durability. Antique 1667 German Oak Hammered Iron Traveling Trunk. Measures 44" wide by 25" high by 23" depth. NOT a reproduction. My parents bought this over from a trip to Europe in 1971. Extremely sturdy. Very little damage, just on some of the iron and I have the small the piece that is missing from the left bottom, it needs to be reattached. No key. There are two U-shaped pieces that would attach the trunk to a coach in the back. I have the shipping manifest with the shipping date of Feb. 1972 when my parents shipped it from Germany. This is obviously a very heavy piece(I guesstimate more than 150 pounds) and would need to be shipped by a freight carrier. Here we have available a recently refinished Ca. 1860's Brass Bound Flat Top Trunk. Very rare trunk with the brass bands and this one also had a gorgeous lock front with an Eagle- lock does not work and there is no key. Freshly lined and ready to store your special and important papers. Documents, photographs, you name it. Gorgeous Waverly Linen Red and White Rooster Fabric was used to line the inside of this sweet trunk. My mom did an amazing job at lining this trunk- quilted bottom and top. Roosters everywhere. This trunk came to us with dried thin green canvas. Loads of dust and dirt and the bands were dull and dingy. We brought it back to life by removing the remaining canvas, cleaning and dusting it, then sanding the wood smooth. The brass bands shine and make a nice contrast against the honey pine wood. The top has some age cracks but they have been firmed up on the inside. Originally canvas covered. The old green canvas was removed and the wood sanded smooth. It was treated with Golden Oak stain and Tung Oil, the finish is very nice, smooth flat and not shiny. Measurements are: 30 inches long. 17.5 inches wide and 12.5 inches tall. Your looking at a very Old antique Small Round Top Trunk. Child's or light travel. Outside measures about 14.25" L X 9"H X 9.25D. I got this at an estate auction many years ago in Dover De. It was covered with cowhide, in poor shape. I recovered it in the leather shown in the pictures. It had the same trim and looks the same, only the color is different. It was lined with old news papers and I found in them several dates in the 1830's and 40's. I know nothing else about it. We have found this Great Old Patent Office Gazettes storage box dated April. 1887 To Sept. 1889. This has all its original patina and shows signs of use.The box has its original side handles and hinges however the top is not secured to the box but could easily be screwed back on. I am convinced this is a really rare box as I could not find another example. I am not sure if this was actually sitting in the patent offices in the 19th century, but I suspect it very well could have. I do not know the history behind it as it was removed from an unclaimed storage facility.It shows its original patina and shows signs of use, box is not in perfect condition buy displays very nicely with the dates of use. Antique Chinese Brass/Wood Document Box; Trunk; Jewelry Chest; Circa1900-1925
This box is stunning! It is large at approximately 20" wide. 11 1/2" deep and 9 1/2" tall, plus the 3-D brass turtles on top of the lid. It has four drawers that are 9 3/4" deep. It has two brass hinges on the back and a hinged lock closure that would accommodate a traditional Chinese pin key. The front and top of the trunk are covered in brass decoration; rich engraved/etched calligraphy, symbols, and animals(bats for longevity) Two turtles are tiny 3D sculptures, one has a moving head! It all has a lovely old patina. The lower left hand drawer has some corrosion on it that could easily be cleaned. There are butterfly motifs on the sides where handles once were, they no longer exist. The interior has some tatty, old velvet lining in some drawers and someone in some past decade painted the interior lid with bronze paint( ... moreIt could probably be cleaned off, although I would myself probably put a beveled mirror or picture over the paint. Beautiful Antique Vanderman Strong Box This is an 1897 Vanderman Strong Box In great vintage condition. It was made by the Vanderman Mfg. Co. of Willimantic. Conn. and patented July 13, 1897. Vanderman manufactured these boxes in several different sizes This one is large HARD TO FIND with 6 Handles. 38"L x 19"W x 20'H It is made of steel which was formed into a rectangular shape and on the top& sides are solid oak wood staves/slats riveted to the steel. Antique Trunk Circa 1840's to 1860's leather Latches w/ A Charming Restoration
For sale today is a restored is a small to medium size stagecoach style humpback trunk. The restoration of this great old humpback turned out just great. The pictures do not do it justice. I did not find any patent dates on the trunk and based on 40 years experience restoring trunks I would date this trunk to the 1840's to the 1860's which makes this awesome old humpback as much as 160 years old- a true antique. This trunk was in good solid condition when the restoration started and the wood bottom is solid and the wood has had multiple coats of clear applied. The trunk has the two original hinges which are tight and work well. It has 34 pieces of original polished hardware. Still has the original brass center lock which has been polished and there is no key. A new tan leather lid lifter was installed. Two new tan leather l latches ... morewere installed on the trunk There are twelve original solid oak slats in a golden oak color on the trunk. The interior has been removed. All the metal is in very good condition. There are 112 polished nail covers. There are two original metal and two new metal wheels on the bottom. The trunk rolls easily.The metal lid stay is original and the lid closes well. Two new tan leather handles were installed with the original end caps. Antique 1850's Civil War Era Robert Burr Leather Stage Coach Chest Trunk
Up for auction is an incredible attic found. Rare Robert Burr, signed leather stage coach truck in original condition. This was recently pulled from a family home attic crawlspacee and was FULL of family history documents from the 1850's-60's, some of the contents are included with the sale. This is a beautiful surviving example of Boston's Robert Burr Trunk Manufacturer. I am seeing this called an officer's Ditty Box. This trunk has hand tooled designs on the top and is decorated with brass tacks all over in wonderful primitive designs including the initials of the owner Gilbert Jillson of Woonsocket RI. There is a wonderful clean manufacturer label and a secret compartment. The leather is still in relatively good condition but the straps are partially missing. Photos show the condition. I don't see any repairs. This ... moretrunk measures 27" wide x 15" deep x 12" high. Under the lid there is a compartment that is opened by removing a wooden stick through cloth straps. This compartment opens and can fill the top possibly with clothing or documents. I don't know. The lock is brass and has a large leather protecting flap that would be strapped shut. No key but the lock appears to most likely work. This truck was full to the top with family history including Civil War tin types. Land deeds, love letters etc. Included with the trunk are a few interesting documents. There is a Woonsocket RI Patriot newspaper from 1865. Communication letter to a land buyer stamped and dated 1854, an advertizing postcard for Animal Veterinary Surgeon Levi Wilson, 1857 complete original land deed and original 1858 land survey. Large full-sized 20th century Chinese blanket chest or trunk made of solid Rosewood in an antique or traditional style. The chest is quite substantial and sturdy; it measures 40" long x 21" deep x 22 1/2" high. It is of quality construction. And in very good to excellent condition. The chest is made of solid rosewood. And not veneer, and is finished on all 4 sides plus top; with a cedar lined inside. The style is classic with subtle Asian touches evident in the brass latch hardware. And the feet of the chest. There are no carvings. The hardware is solid brass. It has a classic look. Never goes out of style, mixes well with modern or traditional decor. Could be used at the foot of a bed, for a coffee table, a TV stand, and many other uses. Condition: a few minor nicks and scuffs. But overall very good to excellent. No water ... morestains. Up for auction today we have a recently refinished antique half trunk dating to the 1880's- this trunk is special with the original label and envelope holder. The dried leather was removed to highlight the honey pine underneath. Sanded very smooth and treated with tung oil and satin poly. Edges were cleaned and painted flat black. Trunk is very sweet. Inside the old paper was removed and edges done with a nice light blue border. Trunks make great gifts and this size is perfect for a corner of a room- to hold old love letters.
