The trunk is made of wood, with a nice brown covering that is mainly intact, and metal reinforced seams. There is no key with it, and therefore the main lock on the front does not work. Old advertisements for this ... moretrunk can be found from the 1918s! This trunk is close to 100 years old! The hinges on the lid are still in good condition and workable. The flip-down locks on the front are stiff but open and close well. The center lock no longer works- looks like someone had to"break and enter" as it is slightly bent and the lock mechanism is missing. There are heavy leather handles on the side that are still in very good condition. Above these handles are eye hooks to attach and hold the trunk still. There are decorative rivets holding the steel in place on all the edges. It looks like a few of them have been replaced over the years. All the outside hardware has rust on it. The black outside material is canvas-leather like. Not sure what it is but there are some rips and showing underneath is wood.There are small holes on the sides and bottom. Maybe this was used for bootlegging at one time? It looks like the bottom could have been nailed down to something as there are small nails that stick up on the inside. Neat old black and white wallpaper type material on the inside of the lid and in the three cubby-holes on the right side. Very spacious measuring approx. 29" long x 15" high. The largest space on the inside measures 24" wide x 11" Each of the cubbyhole spaces measures approx. 4" x 3 1/4 to 3 3/4" with the center space being the smallest. The inside is lined in a canvas type material. I will say there is a very strong mildew smell on the inside. It is dirty inside too- this is definately in need of some TLC! It looks like someone added leather and snaps to the inside of the lid to hold things.the leather is light colored and newer looking. One of these straps is broken. The original leather strap that holds the lid open is scuffed and worn but still works for the purpose. Overall this is a nice vintage trunk with a condition commensurat

The hinges are all working however need to be cleaned. The locks appear in very good condition. No keys. These trunks were the very best. Right at the top with Louis Vuitton, Goyard, M. M. Secor, etc. This trunk was one of Hartmann's top models of the time, costing close to $200.that's over $2500 in today's market. Only a well-to-do gentleman or lady would have owned something this expensive and of this quality. This particular trunk is a cushion-top model, and is also gibraltarized, patentened process in order to make the trunk frame very strong. This is all steel-frame construction. The trunk features a velvet cushioned top to protect clothing during travel. All original"unbreakable hangers" a garment bag for clothing worn, all hand riveted, and featered a patented locking mechanism that actually hooks so your trunk would never open in travel. From the hangers to the cloth lining, and cloth ties, this was made for an entire wardrobe to moved about without putting a wrinkle in any of your items. This is one of the most unusual and attractive antique steamer trunks I have found. Unusual design reinforced with multiple wood slats and copper detailing throughout. I acquired this particular trunk about 15 years ago and used it for awhile as an accent table with a glass top in my design studio. Although I am on the constant hunt for vintage trunks, this is one of the most unusual I have ever found and have held on to it for years awaiting another purpose. All wood construction with a multitude of wood slat reinforcements and copper straping with riveted joints throughout. Much of the original hardware. Including hinges, is intact but the front lock/latch ... moreand one side handle is missing. The interior is clean with remanants of an old paper lining that has been pealed away to reveal that the wood used in the making of the trunk was most likely recycled from antique wood crating. With one area showing an original stamp for the"American rubber company" I was surprised to see this and since this trunk is at least 100 years old, I think it is such an unusual and charming detail The trunk has probably had a coat of protective finish added to the exterior at some point and the wood has developed an aged and rich patina. There is a burn mark(see photo) on the left side. Indicating at some point in its history this trunk even endured some sort of fire, but is clean and undamaged otherwise. This trunk looks fantastic as is- I used it with a custom cut(very inexpensive) glass top for use as a coffee table. Either way. An absolutely stunning and historical addition to your design scheme! This is a wonderful bronze little miniature trunk box- It has plain panels of bronze decorated with molded iodized copper edging on corners and top. Lots of detailed workmanship- havent seen one like this before. Good condition- some verdina- and copper is showing through on edges. Old label on bottom reads'Normand' with a serial# and Laval. Antique refinished trunk one of a kind high end Victorian chest circa 1895
For your consideration is an antique refinished Victorian trunk with fancy hardware and double locks. A feature not often seen. This was definitely a high end trunk in its time, one that would have turned heads at the train station. All the extra hardware, the double locks and the fact it has three protective slat boards on all sides makes this trunk truly unique. A three stave(slat boards) trunk is one that is quite rare. It's only the second one that I've come across to refinish. This trunk measures 34" long by 21" wide by 24" high and has both of its original trays. The trays original cardboard bottoms have been replaced with wood bottoms and finished to match the interior of the trunk. The interior of the trunk has been cleaned down to bare wood, sanded, stained and sealed. Three coats of a water based sealer was ... moreused on the interior and trays to keep any odor to a minimum. The outside of the trunk was professionally refinished with a furniture grade finish. All the metal on this trunk was hand burnished with enough of the patina left to provide a natural antique character to the piece. This is an antique so there will be cracks dents and dings but these just add character. This particular trunk only has one stress crack which is quite unusual(it can be seen in the pic of the top) New high grade leather handles were installed to provide many years of safe lifting. This is a'true' flattop trunk, that is there is no slight built in arch to the top which makes it an ideal candidate to be used as a coffee table or end table or other decorative use. Try as I might I have been unable to find keys for the two locks but I have the ebay'key' guy hot on the trail and hopefully we'll come up with a key before the listing ends. I do each of my trunks to the best of my ability which means I don't rush the work because I want each one just right. I don't paint the hardware and don't repaper the interior. This trunk is spectacular. It is a high quality Hartmann trunk. I am uncertain of the exact age. But I am confident that it dates to the earlier part of the 1900s. The exterior is hardshell and the finish has great patina. The interior is rather interesting. It has a galvanized metal insert. I am not certain the purpose of this, but it possibly speaks to anticipated rough handling of the case. Maybe this was designed for airline or train travel. I thought about an ice box however, there is no insulation in the galvanized insert. The overall exterior measurements of the case are 28" x 9 1/2" x 18" The logo is mostly intact and indicates a Racine, Wisconsin address. There is only one handle on the case and it is in good shape. Antique Shwayder Bros. Samson Steamer Trunk with it's original inside tray. This trunk is estimated to be from the 1930's and is in very. Very good condition. Shwayder Trunk Co. originated in 1910 and the name was changed to Shwayder Bros. Inc. Samson in 1939. In 1965 the named changed to Samsonite. The trunk has it's original tray and they are both lined in it's original patterned paper. These trunks are hard to find with their original trays and also it has old newspaper from 1957 laying flat inside both the tray and the trunk; the paper all completely in tact with no tears and really neat old adds with the current news. A little extra for the trunks history. The tray does need a small repair on the front bottom where it has become separated in the center. I did get a picture of it and it is probably very easy to repair. ... moreIt has two old decals on each sie on the top that might have been added to it through the years or maybe they are original and also'460S' is printed on the bottom left. The handles on each side are leather and in extreme good condition. They have'SHWAYDER BROS. DENVER- DETROIT' imprinted on both and the handles are both very taut; not at all loose or streatched. It's like it was hardle ever picked up much with them and they are indeed original. The front handle is a heavy type of metal I think and is all in tact. The handle also has a definate'1930's style ornate-ness' to it. Very unique! The trunk It measures 30" in length, 16" width and 12" tall. Up for Auction is an ANTIQUE Vintage Steamer Black Metal Lined Wood TRUNK. It has Nice Metal corners and has a thin lining of metal over wood. Inside it is lined also. There is an insert that has makes a shelf. The bottom of the insert has detatched from the sides. See pictures. The wood is lined with blue and white paper. It has a lock by the Eagle Lock Company which was in business in the late 1800's and early 1900's. There is no key and the middle of the handle is missing. The trunk has the intials PTM on it. The metal is scatched. Warped and dinged from use and it is very old. The lining inside also has marks and is tearing from age. It also has rivots on the sides. Early 1870s Saratoga Trunk Antique Trunk
This trunk is an early 1870s Barrel Stave. Saratoga trunk. Originally embossed leather covered, but sadly it was beyond saving. The up-side is that the wood underneath is absolutely fantastic. Unlike most other trunks for sale, this one has a complete original interior. Lets start with the outside, 34" long, 21" wide, and 29" high. The iron bound corners, and 3 iron bands all have a not often found scalloped edging with 3 rows of nails. Total nails on this trunk are over 1,400, and all have been polished, masked, and painted around. Cast iron guide dowels are held on with copper rivets. A unique solid brass working lock with key. The leather straps, lid lifter, and handles have all been faithfully reproduced. The custom made(by me) handles are the largest I have seen at 10" long, 1 1/2 wide, and almost a 1/2 thick. The ... morebeautiful grooved oak slats are held on with tinned nails, and all have steel slat end protectors. The inside is no less amazing. Full bottom tray with covered set up tray. Parasol tray, and removable hat box. The removable hat box has 3 compartments with the front one having a fold down top. The lid has a fall in tray with securable top, and 2 drawers hidden behind a latching panel. Below the tray is a skirt tray. This was intended for ladies skirts, and having a cloth/paper bottom on the tray allowed the owner to pin her skirts down to keep them flat during travel. All of the interior was originally a stripped fabric. The inside top, and skirt tray, have been replaced by a paper reproduction I made from the original cloth. Up for sale is a unique item. I used this as a waitress station in my restaurant. It is an antique steamer trunk. That someone long before me converted into a writing desk. The trunk portion is pidgeon holed with small drawers, while the front folds down for a writing surface. The top still opens to reveal the tray, which remains hidden when the top is closed. I forgot to get the measurements, but I would approximate it to be 28x28x12 I could be wrong, this could be all original, but I dont think so. If anyone knows more about it please let me know. This is an antique ca.1875 ladies refinished pine hat trunk. It is 14"x 13"x 16.75"tall and weighs 17 lbs. It has steel banding with brass buttons. The solid brass hasp and lock plate are original. The key has been lost. The three leather handles and leather dust strap have been replaced per the original. The interior has a lift-out tray and a fold-down bonnet box with a money pouch. Refinished Dome Top Victorian Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Straps & Buckles
Nice Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles Here is a nice refinished arch top or dome top steamer trunk from around the late 1800's to 1900 or so. We purchased this one already finished by someone else. We didn't really like the way it was when we received it. So we went ahead and finished it out a little bit better. This one has a combination of fancy embossed metal which is in a leaf and flower pattern on the top and front. The rest of the trunk must have been paper which they removed to expose the wood on the sides and the back. The wood appears to be pine and the outer slat boards look like poplar. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is approximately 20 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 17 inches. The front latches were ... moremissing on this trunk, so we put a pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top where the latches should have been. These straps with buckles hold the top secure to it's base when buckled as would the latches if they were there. The wood appears to be finished with a couple of coats of clearcoat. The metal has been painted in a couple of different colors. The fancy metal looks like a silverish color while the cap metal on the slat boards have been done up in gold leaf, and the flat metal is in black. The lock looks to be original. It is not in working condition because the top part that goes into the lock mechanism is missing the engagement part. The lock probably works, but it will not fasten to anything since the top part is missing that engagement part. We did receive this trunk pretty much the way it is and simply gave it some improvement. The side handles were not on it, so we have put on a pair of Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior, the paper lining has been removed and the wood has been finished with two coats of polyurethane. The bottom has been covered over with a new bottom which has been fastened

An antique miniature chest with wonderful dovetail joints. Footed. It sits on 4 legs. 19 th Century. There is paint on the bottom. Original paint. Lovely warm patina. There are hints of green paint on the outside. This is a beautiful primitive. I measure just over 17 ¼ inches tall by about 26 ¾ inches wide by just under 14 inches deep. A hard to find size. Weighs about 24 pounds. It looks like both hinges have been moved a time or two. There is an inlay patch on the lid near the keyhole. The key hole is quite worn. I’m not sure of the type of wood. The lock is off. There is part of the lock loose on the inside. The box inside may be called a keeper or keepsake or candle box. Awesome primitive folk art miniature wooden blanket chest. Made from an old fruit crate. All components of box show traces of having been gleaned from a fruit crate the box is in excellent shape, and measures 8" long by 3 3/4" wide and 3 1/4" tall. There are three tiny nail holes visible on top of box lid one in front center, and two on right side edge, which are remnants of when piece was a packing crate please see last photo. The front of box has a beautiful scallop design and still retains faint pencil layout lines. Original to the creation of the piece. Both sides of the mini blanket chest have footed arched features which join and compliment the scalloped arched front. The interior of box is where the origin of this unique piece is hidden, the wooden interior reveals the writing, advertising of the original fruit crate ... moreof which it was made. Leaving the character that only a real antique trunk would accumulate over the years intact. The original canvas was in too bad of shape. So it was stripped to reveal the beautiful pine underneath. Antique Leather Luggage Trunk Suitcase Seat Brass Tacks Monogram 1850 Stagecoach
Here is a real antique. Stagecoach, train luggage trunk. It is leather over wood and it's embellished with brass tacks and a monogram. Has the bottom part of the original lock. Has both handles. The inside is covered with blue and white striped ticking or cloth. That's in very good shape. It has a drop open door in the lid that was used to put either dirty clothes or unmentionables(as they called underwear in those days) Then the top was padded and you could sit on the trunk as a seat as you were waiting for the train or stagecoach. Antique Doll Trunk and China Shoulder Head & Body
This auction is for 3 neat items- an ancient antique doll trunk- an antique china shoulder head marked Germany 2 G- and a nice old antique cloth doll body from Germany. This nice old doll trunk measures 6" x 9 3/4" and it is 4" tall and it shows lots of wear- it has paper loss. Scratches, paper wear, peeling, gouges, cracks, wood chips, etc. but it is one of those antiques that looks better and better as it ages. It has a lovely oval picture of a very pretty lady inside and it has an ancient tray inside as well. It is older than the hills. There are two areas where I believe the hardware is not original: the back hinges and the two brass chains which hold the trunk open. I believe these were added during this century. Otherwise.
