ANTIQUE Valentine-Glascock Co Wallmounted Secretary Desk Chalkboard Paper Scroll
This is a very rare piece. I believe they called it a learning desk or hanging student desk. It has a chalkboard on the front and it opens to shelving inside where the child would store his pencils and such. Inside is in pretty decent condition. The wood needs a cleaning and TLC on the outside. The paper scroll(which is rare to have in tact) is there and whole. It is extremely frail and takes caution rolling the two levers to change images. There are other images showing basic learning skills through out the scroll and a lot of boy scout images. The scroll is dirty and starting to tear. Some areas were taped. This is a rare find and someone with that restoration skill could make this an amazing looking item. It will take a lot to pack and ship carefully. Also it is pretty large. Here is an absolutely gorgeous antique mahogany desk with lovely burl mahogany veneer and border design inlay. Circa 1840 and American made. This slant front desk drawers. The desk stands 43 inches tall and measures 38 inches wide by 21 inches deep, front to back. The writing surface itself is 36 inches wide by 21 inches from front to back. The surface is beautiful and in very good condition. The inside of the desk also reveals 16 small drawers and an additional cubby with lovely inlay door as shown. Below the desk slant front. T here are four large drawers. Each 31 1/2 inches wide and 18 1/4 inches front to back and then 2 3/4, 3 3/4, 4 3/4 and 6 inches deep respectively, in descending order. The lock sets are original and in working order and the keys are replaced. The drawers are all still lined with a thin blue paper.certainly a Victorian ... morething. But this complete top is in lovely, age-appropriate condition. I believe the wood is walnut with pine as a secondary wood. There is a top section that lifts that goes the entire away across with the molding. Revealing pigeon holes/cubbies. On either side of the piece are large doors.the left side has a grid of cubbies. The right side has horizontal dividers, with pretty ogee divider detail for vertical file storage. Four drawers with horizontal beaded details.they no longer have their pulls but move freely. The dovetails are not hand cut and irregular. But are consistent. Online I found this description: A close inspection shows no irregular saw cuts or variation from a skilled craftsman, but rather a precise and identical manufactured machined joint. These machine-cut dovetails are as strong and long lasting as the hand-made joints, and became the standard of better American furniture ever since the late 1890's. So this desk may be very late 1800s or early 1900s. Another indication is that the back is not multiple boards. But appears to be an early plywood? There is a tiny hole drilled in the back where I think my dad had our phone(land line) cord come in so the phone could be in the desk. Regardless, it is a beautiful old desk. I believe This desk was made sometime in the 1800s. It's 100% hand carved. It does not appear to be a replica to look old. It has many makers mistakes hidden inside its drawers and the underneath(bottom) of the desk seems to have much age wear on it as if it has been taken very good care of but still needed some repairing along the way. I wish I knew more of the story behind this beautiful desk but it was bought at an estate sale so I do not. The top lid folds down to reveal a writing surface, still has the old velvet, the ribbon is a recent replacement of course. Under this is a storage area for papers or documents. The top section folds up, for a storage area for pens, inkwells and accessories. In amazing original condition, this is a beautiful flame mahogany flip top empire secretary bookcase desk. Look ... moreat the flame mahogany that these cabinet makers used back before the Civil War, and it’s obvious that they were very talented. There is matched flame mahogany veneer across the hand-cut dovetail drawers and the flip down lid. It has the big, wide molded crown molded top, arched gallery center face with flame mahogany all over, and the individually paned doors with some of the original glass still in them, and the double shelf interior. There are two hand cut dovetail drawers underneath the glass doors, and it comes down into a base with a flip-top lid on which we have redone the felt with antique red. The three hand-cut dovetail drawers come down into a scrolled empire legged base. The glass has been replaced in two of the sections for sure, and maybe some other places. You can see some of the triangular points that holds the glass panes in. The cabinet is in great condition, with some wear marks on the sides, and they can be refinished easily. The overall size is 40 inches wide, 22 inches deep, 34 inches to the cabinet top, and 78 inches to the very top and comes apart in two sections. 1920's Antique Mission Solid Quartersawn Oak Folding Secretary Desk
On offer is a classic antique Mission or Arts&Crafts secretary desk. This desk was purchased for considerably more money in 2005. It is in need of some repair. Which could be done relative easily, but is nevertheless which is why I am asking much less than purchase price. The rear right leg is wobbly and needs reinforcement. I added a steel bracket on to stabilize it a few years ago, but it was neither an attractive nor particularly stable solution. Also the top does not close flush because the hinges have been attached incorrectly and need to be moved(as simple as drilling two new holes and puttying over the old ones) On the plus side, the quarter sawn oak is really beautiful, the tiger oak pattern is exactly what you'd want in this kind of piece. Antique Women's Secretary Desk. This is in original condition. Belonged to my great-aunt. I am not sure of the age, but believe it to be from the early 1900's. The height of the desk is 50" from bottom to top of desk, 25 1/2" from side to side& 15 3/4" from front to back. It is solid wood with burled front arches on the top front of the door( see pictures) The doors open with small pulls& the desk automatically comes down. Inside has lots of open storage slots& a small pull out drawer. Carved wooden legs and carving around top& bottom of the desk. I have enclosed LOTs of pictures so that you can see exactly what you will be purchasing. The back dustcover was torn& removed as you will see from the back view pictures. A slide out writing surface, 4 small drawers and 5 cubbies on the interior and 1 large drawer that is accessible when top is folded down. This desk is made of solid mahogany and is marked as such inside lower drawer. It is in solid shape structural. Hello. Here's a great old project desk. OAK SECRETARY DESK! It measures: 41" Tall in the back. The desk to is approx 28" off floor, 30 3/4" Wide x 14" Deep, with 2 3/4" deep Drawers. It's very solid& quite attractive despite is custom huumm paint job. It looks like pretty OAK underneath. Just needs some elbow grease to bring it back out. It needs work but it's not all hammered up, doesn't look like it's been abused(except for paint) I have no keys to it, unknown if locks work properly. This unique. Handcrafted, solid cherry secretary folding top desk was given to me by my grandparents in the 1960s. My grandparents had it for many years. The carvings on the desk are unique as are the brass drawer pulls and hinges. It measures 36"W x 36"H x 19"D. It is in very good condition. There are four small drawers in the top of the desk, along with six small cubbies. There are one large drawer, two deep drawers and one cubby below the desk top. All drawers are working. There is a working key and lock for the bottom cubby. It has been kept in a good environment so it is in good condition.
