Has turned legs with a slant front desk top that lifts up and a secretary style top with doors that open and cubbies inside. Not sure of history of this piece. We obtained it from an estate sale in Johnston County, North Carolina. One of the most interesting thing about this desk is that in the upper corner of the right door there is a piece of paper taped inside that lists the presidents of the United States and has 24 of them with Woodrow Wilson being the last one and the date listed is 1893. This piece looks like perhaps the top may have been added later, not sure, and also where the slant top is looks like it was altered at one time as well. An amazing piece, all pegged. Unusual Antique Wooden Sewing Box Roll Top Cabinet Secretary Desk Dollhouse
Unusual wooden Antique sewing box in the shape of a roll top secretary. Very nicely made with warm wood patina and hand edge decoration made to look like inlay. It measures about 6 3/4" tall. 5 1/4" wide and 3 5/8" deep. The top lifts and the doors open to reveal a velvet lined thread storage area. The writing surface slides out and the roll opens simultaneously. The inner area here is lined with blue silk. There is a brass decoration which looks like an animal with a woman's head. The bottom compartment does not seem to open although perhaps I just can't figure out how to open it. There is no key. Part of the velvet inside is missing. And the satin inside is worn. There are two tiny feet on the bottom which are missing. This would also make a nice secretary for an Antique dollhouse. Guaranteed as described. Here is an terrific mid-late 19th century flame mahogany column step back secretary with fold out desk. Turned legs and glass door bookcase or storage& display cabinet above and three large functional bureau drawers below. I've detailed the restoration work this lovely piece will need to bring it back to it's former full value in my detailed description of condition above and in my multiple photographs included to accurately represent the design, quality, condition and construction as well as the overall beauty and potential of this marvelous old piece of mahogany furniture bargain priced as a restoration project. It has had a few small professional repairs to the veneer previously. This wonderful cabinet travels easily in two pieces and stands 68 1/2 inches tall by 42 1/2 inches wide and 20 inches deep front to back. The top ... morebookcase section measures 33 1/2 inches tall by 42 1/2 inches wide at the bonnet by 12 3/4 inches deep front to back. It has 12 panes of glass in it's upper cabinet doors and three small drawers run across the bottom within the top cabinet just below the two display shelves. The bottom bureau section measures 36 inches tall with a 35 inch tall flat surface height when the desk is closed and a 3/4 inch recessed space along the back for the upper bookcase to rest in. The base is 42 1/2 inches wide and 20 inches deep front to back and had three drawers. Inside the top bookcase the cabinet measures 25 1/2 inches wide by 8 1/2 inches deep and 28 inches tall. Divided by a shelf with 12 inches clarance below the shelf and 15 inches clearance above the shelf. Below the shelves but inside the cabinet doors are three small beautifully hand dovetailed drawers, 11 1/4 wide by 5 3/4 inch front to back by 2 3/4 inch deep with the center drawer of the three actually being only 11 inches wide. It has the 2 nails that hold it down when it is pulled down that my son broke. He pressed to hard on it and the nails broke through. PROBABLY CHERRY WOOD- DOVE TAIL DRAWS. But the rest is in good condition. I have the key for the top and the rest of the piece is like a dresser so you could use only as a dresser if you do not want to repair. Up for sale is an antique Secretary/bookcase made by Liberty Co. Ltd of the U.K. All appears original with a possible exception of the hinges on the drop-down desk. The drawer pulls are hammered copper. Overall it is 36 inches wide. And about 51 1/2 inches tall. The secretary desk area is about 26 1/4 inches wide. The fold down desk supports are 10 inches in length and the drawer is about 21 by 13 inches. The name plate for Liberty Co Ltd is on the inside of the drawer at the front. I have no keys for the locks. This was made about 1900 and the style is late nouveau or early arts and crafts. All is in excellent condition. Please view the pictues. We are pleased to be offering today this true Victorian burl walnut secretary bookcase desk that dates from the Eastlake era of the 1870s to 1880s. This desk is truly Eastlake as it has the circular dove tail that was used for a short period of time and really pin points the date range of the desk. It came out of a pretty nice estate on the east coast. It appears to have been refinished years ago in a medium walnut stain finish. It has all the hardware intact. All the burl walnut panels are intact. The only thing we did was replace the felt on the pull out tray as the other one was stained. The desk comes with the original wavy glass on the bookcase glass doors top. Three adjustable shelves that appear to be true original shelves, the doors have burl panels on all four sides with ... morerosette covers and even comes with a key. It has a crown molded top, beautiful burl walnut center and the pull tray. The base cabinet sports three graduated drawers with the circular round Eastlake dove tail and carved columns coming down both sides and lots of burl walnut. The overall size is 40 inches at the widest point, 23 inches deep, 31 inches high to the writing surface and 87 inches high overall. One thing I would like to add is that these desks usually have white wood sides or non walnut sides, but this one is truly all walnut as you can see in the numerous pictures. Wonderful vintage piece in very good condition made by The Maddox Co in Jamestown. N.Y. It is 78" high 34"wide, and 17" deep. The original key opens the desk, 4 large drawers, and the china cabinet. contents not included) The feet are the ball and claw and the slanted desk has a small cabinet, hidden pockets, and 4 small drawers. This is a well cared for family heirloom from a non- smoking home. There are a few minor scratches attributed to its age. The original Maddox Tag is attached to the back of cabinet. I picked this up at an estate sale, I'm not into restoring old furniture but this would be a great project! There is one minor chip in the top left corner that is visible in the picture. This slant front desk has 4 drawers and a fitted interior. The desk stands 46 inches tall and measures 46 inches wide by 21 inches deep. Dovetailed case as shown in the photos. The surface is beautiful and in good condition for her age. The inside of the desk also reveals a 6 drawers interior and an additional cubby holes Below the desk slant front. There are four gratuated drawers, The lock sets are original and in working order but no keys. The desk is in good early 19th century condition in that it has had some restoration through the years.Hardware is vintage.However, not original, and there is some restoration. All in all.
