Enhancing the figured walnut and mahogany woods with inlaid banding. Three 12" wide leaves are solid walnut. They fit and match well. The trestle base is strong and tight on this sophisticated American made furniture. Table size is 40" wide. 31" tall, legroom is 26" underneath, length when closed is 5' and with all 3 leaves in place, length is 8' overall. Chairs are also tight and wiggle free. The table is roughly 17" tall and the chair seats where the children would sit is roughly 11" high not counting the backs. The wood appears to be original and the table top is in need or being replaced. Table is circular with 4 legs each with 4 cylinder rod support. The height of the table is 18 1/2" and diameter from one end of the table to the other is 3 feet. Chairs are high back and have a bending motion for comfort. They are supported by nicely designed thick strong legs and their weight is very heavy. This Berkey& Gay dining set consists of a 3-leaf table. 8 chairs, 1 china hutch, 1 buffet and 1 sideboard. It is made of walnut, with many sections being bookmatched figured walnut- absolutely beautiful. All pieces are matching, and feature the metal medallion used in Berkey& Gay's furniture from the 1920's-1940's. Our best guess is that these pieces were made in the 20's. They're in excellent condition for this vintage. You'll see some very slight damage, shown in the last 4 photos. Handmade pieces by designer/furniture maker George Hunt, whose Pasadena, CA studio was adjacent to that of architect Wallace Neff in the 1900's. Hunt was commissioned by Neff and other top designers and architects of the period to create furniture for their estates. What a piece of history! The patent mark on the bottom of the chairs reads September 26. 1885. The chairs are made of solid oak, are very sturdy and in great condition for their 100+ years with minor signs of wear and use. The seats have the pitted"Texas Star" pattern in the center. The chairs have been all tightened up so they’re nice and sturdy. Of solid mahogany, and have their original rich, luxurious reddish-brown mahogany finish, which shows just minor nicks and dings. They’ve been all reupholstered in a beautiful period style fabric of mauve with tiny beige dots. A little brass capped feature on top of the two front legs finishes off a really nice upholstery job! The chairs themselves are simply stunning, consisting of six side chairs and two arm chairs, with carved knuckle arms, tapered front country Hepplewhite style legs, solid H mahogany cross-stretchers, and one of the prettiest carved solid mahogany backs you’ll ever see on any chair, especially older ones like this, not reproductions. These type chairs are becoming more difficult to find especially in numbers. They were often used in government settings such as courthouses. Lawyers and other professionals also seem to appreciate and use them in their offices. However. As they are both functional and practical, they can be used in any area in the home, office, etc. Each chair is solid oak and is tight and sturdy in construction. The finish on each chair is an older finish with a nice patina. The condition of each of the twelve(12) chairs is great with wear appropriate and consistent with the age and use. There appears to be no existing damage or missing pieces to each chair. The construction and design are such so that one is comfortable sitting in them even if for a prolonged time period. It is 41 1/2" wide. The chairs are covered in a blue cloth(not original) Not sure what the actual seat looks like. But there is a layer of foam that you can see from underneath. PAIR OF Antique CHAIRS Beautiful pair of wood chairs from an antique store in Omaha. NE. As you can see these chairs are in need of easy repair. The top of one chair is off and needs to be glued. I believe the other is in the same condition. The integrity of the wood is in perfect condition. I also seem to recall that the corners have to be reinforced if you want a person to sit on them. I have two other corner blocks that belong to the chair and are not in the photographs. They are very elegant and I will even include some high quality upholstery fabric.
