This is a really pretty dining set in need of Some TLC. The table has a burlwood top that is stained scratched and chipped in molding trim and legs but has the potential to be a fabulous set. The table is 84" long X 41" across. The leaf is 18" so the table is 66" wihtout the leaf. The mechanics of the table as well as the chairs is in good condition. The chairs are very sturdy and very comfortable. The cane backs are intact and the forms are not broken. The wood needs stain or paint. They have wear spots in the coloring but would look great if they were painted or newly stained. The padded seats are also intact with a plain cotton cover waiting for your choice of fabric. It has Barley twist legs and self-enclosed leaves/extenders. It is in excellent condition. The chairs have only been recovered. But the finish is original to our knowledge(we've owned these pieces for over 40 years) Extending boards are in perfect working order. The table measures 40" wide and just under 64" long. Offering as is used/pre-owned a Pair of Antique Boston Side Chairs ca 1750 in TLC condition. Awesome Tiger pattern every which way you view the chairs. I dont know the what are the different kinds of wood used. They may have had a thrush woven seat originally and later(unknown date maybe 1930's or 40's) was fixed with a leopard like vinyl material and side by side brass studs which I think is strikingly beautiful. The woven fabric supports underneath is loose. The curved back top of the chairs are both loose and need to be reglued. There's a broken reglued piece of the Urn back splat on one and the other has a piece of the Urn back splat missing. There are metal skid/studs under each chair leg. I dont know if those are original or when they were put on if they arent. Please see the photos. Pair of English Chippendale Gothic Carved Side Chairs Third Quarter of the 18th Century Item# 130006JNC13 This delightful pair of chairs were almost certainly crafted in England. A most attractive pair. They exhibit strong Gothic influence in the tastefully restrained carvings and splat form. Tenoned into the triple-humped crest rail, the single piece pierced splat is the statement of the chair- featuring an overall form that is indicative of the residual influence of the Queen Anne and George II Period, the splat depicts a row of spears with spade heads under inverted hearts formed in a complex swirl pattern that culminates in five tower-like formations that project into the splat. Along all prominent exposed edges of the chair, following the crest around the volute-ears, down the stiles and completed along the outer edges of the front legs, ... morea soft twisted-rope carving elevate the form significantly. The splat drops into a shoe. This inserted into cut rabbets in either stile and resting over the frame- note, the somewhat unusual use of rabbet cuts in the stiles has eliminated the need for nails or glue in the shoe treatment as is typical. The seat is trapezoidal in form, bowing outward in the front in conformity with the front seat rail. The interior of the chair frame is joined with replaced blocking, these probably added during the late 19th to early 20th Century. The chairs are stretched over a box-stretcher, the medial stretcher tenoning through both of the outer stretchers for a permanent and perfect joint. The overwhelming Gothic elements and shape of the splat would probably place this chair in the third quarter of the 18th Century. Possibly a bit earlier. While it is unfortunate that the front corners of one chair have been pieced out, this is an honest repair probably completed during the late 19th Century that has preserved the chairs for use and enjoyment for over a hundred years. They are covered in a beautiful pinkish-coral colored upholstery with raised stitching to form stripes in the shape of diamonds throughout, tacked around the rim with decorative brass nails. The crest of both chairs features a bouquet of flowers with leaves flowing outward into a molded frame. Serpentine along the sides and bottom around a comfortable upholstered back. Up for auction is an antique Old Hickory drop leaf.Gate leg table with 6 Old Hickory chairs. The table measures with sides down- 24" X 42" each leaf is 21" by 42" and the height is 30" The overall measurement with the sides up is 66" X 42" This is a great set I have had it for over 20 years and have never really had a place for so it was in a closet along with all the chairs. There are a couple little marks on the table top but otherwise it is fantastic shape. The chairs are also in great shape, but there are some weave breaks, nothing major and they have been there since I bought the chairs. It's a beautiful set. I always thought that someday when the seats got really bad I would have them all redone, but never got to do that, because I never used it. TIGER OAK ANTIQUE DINING TABLE / 6 CHAIRS COMFORTABLY SEATS 12 BEAUTIFUL
Up for sale today is a beautiful antique tiger oak dining table and six chairs. This table was purchased in the late 1800's/early 1900's by either my great great grand fa ther or my great grandfather(they had the same name) who lived near Chicago. Illinois. This one comfortably seats 12 and will seat more if you care to get closer. I do not know if the chairs are original to the table. They do match and they are the only chairs I have ever seen with the table, but I was not around in the 1800's. The table is in wonderful condition as it has always been used with the original. Thick table pads protecting it and a table cloth over that. My family ha ve always been non-smokers. So there are no burn marks or yellow marks. The table needs a good cleaning, that is all. The chairs show more wear as they don't have protection like ... morethe ta ble. They are still used daily. The cushions have been replaced over the years and are now a fruit pattern. The last picture is of the store label holding the table for my great great grandfather(or great grandfather) This label is still in place under the table top. The table was purchased at Carson Pirie Scott& Co. This is an expanding table with four 10" leaves for adjusting t he size. At it's smalle st. The table is 54" round. At it's largest. It is approximately 94" long. The pads are made in sections so fit whatever size you wish the table to be. Pictures show the table at its smallest. Its largest, and also with three leaves in place. The mechanics for adjustment work smoothly. There are wheels on the base of the table and it rolls easily. Please look carefully at the pictures. This table is well over 100 years old. In my opinion. It shows very minimal wear for its age, but it is not"like new" Please keep in mind that the chairs, having been used for these many years, show much more wear than the table.
