The right back foot is missing. Don’t know how. But it stands fine without it. If it were mine I’ll put a dark stained 2 X 4 there. It's not like you're going to be moving it once you found a home for her. Again, all things you can quickly do when it’s on it’s back. It is a two piece unit. It includes two keys. One for the doors and one for the drawers. Each key is embossed with a devil’s face. Lots of nice carvings feature an Indian Princess with fruit and vegetable embellishments. The drawers are dovetailed and completely of oak as are all secondary woods. The glass is all original and wavy. The outside cabinet has some missing wood veneer on the front left of the bakelite knob. Also missing some veneer on the right top corner of the door edge. On the bottom outside corner is a crack in the wood. I was going to seal with wood glue but thought I would leave for the new owner to decide. This incredible functioning piece of art is made of solid wood and most likely dates from the 1800's. I was informed it came over from Japan during World War 2. As several things made of wood that get a lot of use from the 1800's. There are a couple of things that need to be mentioned. The top has a split in it from wood shrinkage(this can be repaired) The right door has some loose joints(this can also be easily re-glued and repaired) Some of the metal hardware may be missing a nail or two(again, very easy to repair) Also, some other wood may have some minor shrinkage cracks(all of which are typical characteristics of wood this age) As you can see in the pictures, this tea caddie is just amazing. ... moreEvery part of it has been decorated, even down to the metal hardware. I found in one of the drawers what looks like a couple of keys that have been broken off. I have not tried them in the locks but most likely they are for this cabinet. Unusual Antique Brass Twist Latch, Lock, For Cupboard, Cabinet, Doors
You are bidding on an early cupboard. Cabinet, or door twist latch lock. It is made out of brass. It is quite heavy. It measures about 2 7/8" x 2 1/2" and 2 1/2" high(from top of twist handle to where it would sit flush with door) It is in very good working condition. I see no makers names. I dont have the catch for this latch. This latch has a nice looking old patina. I am not sure of the age of this latch. This latch is in very good condition. Up for Auction Beautiful. Practical, Antique"Linen Cabinet" 1885 I purchased this beautiful antique from a very reputable antique dealer in San Francisco in the 1980's. It's original purpose was to store linens. But I took the top shelf out in order to store and hide my TV. Since the rest of my furniture were antiques this was perfect. Now that I have moved into a smaller house, and TV's are no longer big and thick, I do not have room for this lovely piece. It is way to big for the small rooms in my 1890's home. If my memory is correct. I believe it was made about 1885. I think it is American, but do not know. Everything is original to the best of my knowledge and has never been refinished, at least while I have owned it. I think the wood is pine and stained to look like walnut. It truly is a beautiful piece of furniture ... moreregardless of the kind of wood it is made of. The cabinet is in two pieces, with the top shelf lifting off the drawers. There are the usual signs of wear which give it character and signifies it's use and age. The drawers are tongue and groove and the closing latches made of wood which turn to close the top cupboards. Nice dark and medium browns as you can see from the photos with mustard yellow undertones in certain lights. This unique and one of a kind piece was made not for sale but for for home. I'm guessing a husband made it for his wife. Possibly for sewing since there are nails that come through the back and could possibly be used for spindles of thread. I purchased this a while back at auction. It was from the estate of a collector of Canadian East Coast folk art and this was described as a Nova Scotia Folk Art Cabinet. It looks as though someone swung the door open too fast and partially popped them at one point. This area has been repaired and is not really that noticeable unless you are looking for it. Shizuoka-c1878 Rare Parquetry Scholars Writing Cabinet/Mobile Pedestal Desk from Shizuoka- c1878 A superb example.In original condition, of a Rare Scholars Parquetry Writing Cabinet with removable top centre section which converts to a larger Mobile Pedestal Writing Desk. Meticulously hand crafted with contrasting hardwood inlays in an overall diagonal checkerboard pattern and dating from the Meiji period. C1878. During the Meiji period. Parquetry was produced mainly in the centers of Shizuoka and Hakone. The“yosegi” technique was a decoration which relied on the inherent beauty, grain and natural colors of various kinds of wood primarily zelkova and mulberry. Slices of different woods were cut into various shapes and sizes and reassembled into one sheet to enable the grains ... moreof each slice to appear more distinctive. The checkerboard pattern was called“ichi-matsu yosegi. and these patterns followed from traditional kimono designs, called Edo-komon. The patina is rich and mellow. With a lush depth and sheen to the finish of the dense hardwoods and the condition of this wonderful item is exceptional considering its age and usage. Marquetry and Parquetry furniture was mainly produced in Shizuoka rather than Hakone and first appeared when sent to the main world exhibitions. The Welt Ausstellung in Vienna in 1873, the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition in 1876, and the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1878 and are recorded as having been actively involved in the world exhibitions until 1893. Since the Exhibitions. Items such as this appear to vanish from records and had all but disappeared by 1900 and therefore marquetry and parquetry furniture seems to have been produced over quite a short 20 year period. The reasons for this are not certain. But it is probable that furniture relying on geometric parquetry motifs lost its appeal by 1900, when sinuous Art Nouveau designs became fashionable. for auction is a very nice antique victorian walnut spool cabinet by coat's or clark i would say. the stickers are gone at this point on the cabinets. i have two pictured. If you win the auction, you may have the other one for the same price. but this auction is only for one cabinet, which ever you choose. a little history. these came out of the newburg mercantile that closed in the 1950's. the ladies father that owned the store keep these and some other store items. she passed away and her daughter had an auction a few years ago and i purchased these two spool cabinets and an oak one with 9 drawers. these have 6 drawers. all three of the cabinets have bases. i asked the daughter when the bases were added to them and she said she did not know, but i could ask an elderly lady that was at the auction who worked in the store in the 1940's. ... moreanyway, i asked her and she told me that the spool cabinets had always had bases or at least from 1940. they look to be original to the cabinets and show the same age wood and patina. the legs and base boards all match the contours of the cabinets. i have actually never seen spool cabinets with bases, but i know i have not seen everything. these may have been special order or possibly handcrafted to the most excellent fashion. actually with the bases they make great end tables or night stands as they are 30 inches tall. these cabinets are almost identical except the pulls are different. they are 28.75 inches wide, 18.5 inches deep, and 30 inches tall. they are in near mint condition with no deficiencies to point out. again this auction is for one cabinet only. i would list them separately and also the oak one, but ebay just allows me to list 59 or 60 items, actually 60 but when i get to 59 they cut me off. i will be listing the oak one that is very very nice as soon as i can. again, if you win this auction, i am giving you the option to buy the other one for the same price,if you do not want it, i will list it alone or offer it to the next highest bidder. they are wond

FINE ANTIQUE MEISSEN DRESDEN HAND-PAINTED 18TH CENTURY SCENE CABINET PLATE A lovely Meissen example with underglaze blue crossed swords mark. Probably late 19th-early 20th century in date. Has a delicately hand-painted scene of a couple in 18th century dress sitting under a tree. In very good condition with just a little wear to gilt edge. Measures 21cm across.
