1926 Gerling Toy antique composition cloth French boudoir bed doll HOTSY TOTSY
Offering a charming old French boudoir bed doll. I do not know her past history I purchased her from a doll estate. But will try to describe her the best I can, hand written tag attached says"Gerling Toy Co. NY, London, Paris, Germany, Hotsy Totsy" boudoir doll 1926" I did not remove her original clothing to look for a makers name, most of these dolls are unmarked and their clothing stitched up the back. Bed dolls were used as displays decor on the bed in the 1920s/1930s period. Measures 28" tall being a composition flange head with cloth stuffed body. I see no cracks on this composition head and only minor wear. I do need to mention a tiny hole on the right cheek(see photo#5) possibly a factory flaw I don't know. A wonderful face with"unusual" painted black eyes, the liner extends far beyond the eyes, blue ... moreshadow on her eye lids with black single stroke brows, closed mouth, light color blush on her cheeks. Light brown human hair wig is secure on her head, looks very old with a center stitched part, I believe her original wig. Her body looks to be in nice shape and well cared for. She has really long legs and long arms with dress material covering the arms and hands so I do not know if there are fingers, hands are all cloth. Her body is a"red" stuffed cloth. There are black shoes on her feet, this is how I purchased her so I do not know if the shoes are her original or a replacement. Orig clothing shows wear throuhout but no serious rips or stains, there is a half slip under her dress. I have taken plenty of photos. Beautiful Antique 1836 Single Bed Frame w/ Headboard and Footboard. Please read the background about this very special antique bed. I was contacted by a gentleman some months wanting for me to help him sell off some of his family's possessions. One of these was the bed you see pictured here which can accurately be dated to 1836. As indicated on the bill of lading. The same bill also tells us that it was shipped from Meredosia, Illinois, not far from Springfield, IL. Now that information itself wouldn't have any significant meaning if not coupled with the fact that my seller shared with me that this bed was purchased by one of his family members on the steps of the Springfield city hall at an auction. Add the fact that this bed has been altered to accommodate a taller person(the average height for a person back then was only 5'8" ... moreand now you're looking at an interesting scenario. What does this imply? You may ask. Abraham Lincoln was living in New Salem(Northeast of Meredosia and North of Springfield) at the time this bed was delivered in 1836. The destination of the bed's delivery is unknown. The bill of lading makes reference to the fact that the bed was shipped from Meredisia. IL- that's 80 miles to the west of Springfield, IL and 16 miles northeast of New Salem, IL where Lincoln lived 1833-1836. This bed was purchased in the past through the municipality of Springfield. IL. How did the city of Springfield come to own it? Abraham Lincoln was 6'4" tall and would have needed a custom built bed to sleep on- such as the one listed here. At the end of the day. This just adds up to be a bunch of circumstantial facts that MAY indicate that this bed was delivered in the same area and at the same time that Abraham Lincoln was also there. It is evident that this is also a custom length bed capable of sleeping a man of 6'4" height. I am 6'4" myself. This antique bed is in excellent condition. It does have metal side rails versus the wood ones. It also does come with the wood slats for the going across the rails for the support of mattress and box spring. There are no broken spindles nor any noticeable scratches. It really is a beautful bed. I have had it about 10 years. And my mother had it for 15 years. It is solid construction with head and foot board being heavy. Antique wood bed. Very ornate flower basket carvings on the head and foot boards. Beautiful detailing. Full size bed. Comes with rails for the mattress. Was bought at an antique shop over 30 years ago. Condition is great, small chip on the top of the headboard. The bed has been in our family for, well, my whole life. My mom bought it for me when I was born. I am selling it b/c I have my own child now and HE will not be using it. Boys and antiques don't mix! The head and foot board are 56 inches wide. The height of the headboard is 51 on the sides and the top part with the ornate basket is 58 inches tall. The foot board is 33 inches tall. 1800's Hand Made Antique Queen Rope Bed - NY Cherry Wood
Beautiful Handmade Queen Cherry Wood Rope Bed from Cherry Creek. NY. It was modified to add a foot to accommodate taller people. See#8 photo) It was made in the late 1800's. Owned by my Great Grandmother Louise Parsons. Her father was the first physician in the Forestville NY area. It is Colonial style. There are some cracks and scuffs. But the bed is structurally sound. Length of mattress area 76" Width of mattress area is 45 3/8" Longest width 52" Height 44 1/4" Length 84" It is very pretty overall. But it does have some wear and minor scratches on it- consistent with the age of the piece. The white lines on the the lower joints are cracks. three of the four are cracked but the wood is still attached and quite rigid and strong. The cracks can be glued and clamped. The pieces are still strong and sound, and should last a long time in spite of the cracks. The white lines on the the lower joints are cracks. Three of the four are cracked but the wood is still attached and quite rigid and strong. The cracks can be glued and clamped. Or just filled and sanded. The cracks are most likely from the wood swelling and shrinking from moisture. The boards used are wide and thick. And do flex with time. Like I said before. It reads, The last in bed to put out the light" Though I'm not an expert, I'm guessing this is by Conta& Boehme. It stands approx. over 2 3/4 inches tall, about 3 inches long and about 2.25 across. It does have some condition issues. There is a chip on the front top center, some chips on very bottom base of back of piece, on man's top of leg, crack line mark, you can feel it but it doesn't affect piece. Perhaps it just where surface porcelain came off, I don't know. At the bottom of the bed there is something like a table on the other side.
