Very Good Awesome vibrant GEOMETRIC DESIGN TEXTILE MOLA KUNA YALA(SAN BLAS Islands) Panama Although I can’t put an exact date on these extraordinary molas…it was purchased on the island Carti Yantupu from one of the islands of the Carti group of Kuna Yala(San Blas Islands. Panama) This mola was just purchased in October of 2011 Some others were collected from the island of Aligandi. The home of the Kuna rebellion which helped to establish the Kuna Komarca as an autonomous indigenous governing territory in the Republic of Panama. The focus of this trip was to look for ... morethe older seredi, pre 1950’s molas and wooden healing figures or dolls called nuchus. I did however make some exceptions and bought only a few of the more recent molas when they exhibited a balance of extraordinary. Quality, motif and color or imagination. This was one of them. The clothing of a traditional Kuna woman consists of a printed blue cotton wrapped skirt. Red and yellow headscarf, glass beaded arm and leg bracelets. Gold nose ring and earrings. The most iconic aspect of the female Kuna clothing is the colorful blouse consisting of a pair the several layered and finely sewn mola panels. The artistry of a mola reflects designs from both traditional Kuna culture and design influences from the external mass media world. Mola designs are often inspired from imagination and from modern graphics such as political posters. Labels, pictures from books, etc. Geometric molas which are the most traditional. Have been developed from ancient body painting designs and have their origins in Pre-Columbian times. Molas are a source of supplemental income for Kuna women and a source of pride and skill which helps to reinforce Kuna ethnic identity. Additional Background Information: I

As you visit the San Blas Islands of the Kuna people, who still keep their old lifestyle and traditions. The Archipelago is composed of over three hundred islands. Some inhabited, some not, some named others remaining nameless to this day, all of them surrounded with crystal clear waters. It is Paradise found. The Kuna people wear dresses adorned with hand made molas. As well as colored bead ornaments ... moreon their wrists and ankles. Chains, pectorals, a red headress, and gold noserings complete their every-day attire. Get our New FREE iPhone APP With Over 100 Mola Images Your adventure at San Blas could be a stay at an uninhabited island. A fishing tour, dancing and traditional rites, diving and spear-gun fishing, the enjoyment of the crystalline waters or merely the peace of a hammock swung by the wind. But to complete your visit you will undoubtably purchase a souvenir mola to remember your adventure. Molas are undoubtedly the most famous art produced in Panama. The Kuna women have been sewing these works of art for years. They incorporate them into their clothing. Usually with one mola serving as the front of the blouse, and another for the back. The mola is often described as a reverse appliqué. For each color of cloth that you see there is a piece of cloth of that color sewn into the mola. Each mola is hand-stitched with thousand of stitches. The theme of the mola is determined by the imagination of the artist. Once assembled. They are placed on both the lower front and lower back of a blouse. These colorful blouses are only part of the daily attire worn by the Ku

Exquisite retablo will make a valuable and ... morerare addition to any art/religious collection. Its delightful patterns have touches of bronze leaf and has a unique detail of a small drawer at the bottom. Where the faithful devotees placed their milagros ex votos. In moments of extreme tension, terror, or pain, faced with extreme disaster, man cries out to God and His saints. Save me! Sometimes he even makes a pact, or promise. When he is saved, he cries for joy. Someone has understood; someone has cared. A miracle has occurred. He prepares to offer thanks, but he also wishes to leave a trace of his story. Some material expression of his devotion tells his gratitude to all who see it. Hence the idea of the ex voto, a symbol of his gratitude. The history of the Peruvian painting has its origins at the colonial era. The Spanish painters who arrived at the Viceroyalty of Peru taught their techniques to the local artists. And they began to shape in its linen cloths its own representations, proposing a new iconographic interpretation of the Peruvian reality. Antique Mexican folk art retablo painting on glass in tin frame: St Patrick icon
Normal.dotm 0 0 1 44 254 100383 2 1 311 12.0 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false This is an authentic 19th Century(1860-80s) Mexican retablo in a beautiful tooled tin frame. A retablo is a traditional Latin American folk art devotional painting. And then often focus on Catholic iconography. This oil painting on tin features a male saint wearing a green cloak and hat, holding a black staff in one hand and a basket of flowers in the other. His staff has either a bell or a pouch affixed to it. The man has quite a content look on his face. He is surrounded by curtains and flowers, and by four panels of reverse-painted glass with vivid and brightly colored flowers against a shining gold background. I believe that this represents Saint Patrick, but this is open to interpretation. This really is a stunning piece of historically important art. ... moreThis retablo measures 15.5 inches tall by 11.5 inches across at the wides part. Where there are wings near the top of the frame. It measures 3/4 of an inch deep. The central painting is on a tin background, and the rectangular panels that surround it on four sides depict vivid, colorful flowers and gold which are reverse-painted on glass. The left panel of glass is cracked and a piece of it is missing. The top panel has a crack in the center but no glass is missing and this hairline fracture will not cause further damage. Aside from this, the retablo is in great condition for a piece of folk art that has spent many years on display. It shows appropriate wear throughout, but is a gorgeous artifact that will contribute to the finest collection or home. Please contact me if you have any questions.

South American Spear
This spear is about 6 ft. long and has a counter balance on the other end. Good craftsmanship and a great addition to any collection. I had a local expert look at it and he said it was from a South American tribe. But I did not write down the exact tribe. He said many of these were cut down to fit in the GI's bag when they came home from the service and he said it was good to see one complete. I can add pictures upon request if someone is interested. Great detail. I hate to part with it, but it does not go with anything else in the house and someone should enjoy it instead of it being in a closet. Vintage NUCHU KUNA Doll Double/Twin Head/Face MOLA HandMade Kuna Yala Is. Panama
FREE SHIPPING to US. Very interesting primitive hand-carved doll from the Kuna Yala Islands off the coast of Panama. This type of doll is known as a"nuchu" Very important in the Kuna culture, and used to ward off and protect against evil spirits. Please send me a message if you are interested in an academic explanation of the importance and use of these nuchus. Per ebay policy. I can't provide a non-clickable link in the listing. I found a book online whose text is accessible. Hand carved from a lightweight wood. Probably from a balsa tree. Doll is dressed in a"mola"traditional applique handwork blouse. And a sort of a skirt which looks like batik but unclear if it actually is. Headscarf is faded pink with yellow design. Note the tiny stitches on the mola's design. Doll is unusual in its double or twin-headed design. ... morePerhaps the nuchu is being especially vigilant. Please see all photos. Faces have inked-in eyes. Eyebrows and nose stripes. Cheeks are reddened. Height 8 inches. Age unclear. Guessing 30 years? Came from the estate of a prominent and well-traveled family. U.S. bidders only. Please. Shipping includes tracking. FLUTE Whistle OCARINA old Indian mayan
I inherited these pieces- and I sadly don't know how old they are or where they came from. They look Latin American to me and OLD. This one looks to be pieced back together from pottery shards- and doesn't work for a whistle anymore. He stands about 4 inches tall and is 3.5 long. There are 4 holes on his back for playing and the hole on his tail for blowing in and a larger hole on the bottom to release airflow. Really interesting piece- even if he doesn't whistle!
XLarge Old Shipibo Conibo Effigy Pot Ayahuasca Shaman Pucalpa Peru Pottery Art
A magnificent and unique large old Shipibo-Conibo effigy pot from near Pucalpa. Peru. Standing impressively at over 11" tall and at over 14" diameter, this vessel is adorned with a serene human face in the traditional form. The eyes are narrow. Painted brown with incised grooves, the nose is pronounced, the mouth is narrow and straight, and the ears are molded in the style of ornamental handles. This pot was hand molded and fired, and the walls are thick, solid and well-balanced. The natural beige surface is covered almost entirely with geometric patterns in brown, orange, and cream colors. The bottom of the pot shows a charred mark where it has been previously used, perhaps for preparing the Ayahuasca medicine brew for which this culture is frequently known. A thin crack on the front, approximately 7cm, appears to have been indigenously ... morerepaired. With this considered, the pot is still in very fine condition, especially considering its size and apparent age. Size: 11" tall. Over 14" diameter Ideal as a collection specimen or for display. Please examine the photos and ask any questions before bidding.

Much time is spent thinking out means of safe packaging. And tailoring to each packaging and its weight and to each special destination. With Item not showing in international arena if a quote is not made for shipment, I have devised a method to provide you with a quote which still in each case is different and includes all the nonsense charges that everyone is pocketing and costs to safely insure and guarantee( not including any might be collected duties which you will be responsible for) If Shipping costs to your destination by required services with insurance is more than quoted, I will honor the quote and consume the additional cost and if less than quoted, a refund will be made through your original payment accordingly. A great way to reduce horrible individual/ overall international shipment costs is to purchase multiple items and have them shipped together.
