A Fine Ngaady Amwaash/ Kete. Kuba, Congo- FINE PROVENANCE Wood. Fine patina, white kaolin, remains of pigments, cowrie shells. Hammered coper, beads, ... morefur, large bell-shaped mask, hallowed eyes with one small see slit, geometric patterns. Kuba peoples call themselves“children of Woot” in honor of their founder. Kuba art is characterized by its use of geometric patterns and cowrie shells. Three types of mask have been associated with dances that take place within the royal compound. The first. Called Mwaashamboy represents Woot. Founder of the Bushoong tribe. The second, known as Ngaady Amwaash. Personifies Woot‘s incestuous sister-wife. The third mask, the Bwoom. Represents a pygmy and is associated with Woot‘s evil brother. This mask. Ngaady Amwaash portrays Mweel. Woot's beautiful sister and wife(alternatively, mother) and who represents women in general. The mask is striking with its strong pattern of white and black triangles painted on the face, which are said to represent hearthstones and domesticity. Lines painted down the cheeks represent tears and recall the pain of death, for royal masks often appear in funerary contexts. The tears also denote the hardship of a woman's life as a"pawn" of male authority befitting the mask's name(Ngaady aMwaash) which means"pawn woman of Mwaash, her husband/brother king. The Ngaady Amwaash and Moshambwooy masks dance together on ceremonial occasions with great dignity and pride“ University of Virginia. African Masks Signs of use. H: 48 cm(19 inch) Provenance: L. Mooney. Director Catholic Aid Agencies Zaire c.1950-1960's- Ken Adelman. Former director USAID Zaire, c.1975 and former assistant US Ambassador to the UN- David Gelbard Collection. New York. Antique Sancto Religious Catholic Bishop Head Antique Glass Eye Statue Part
I am unsure of the origin of this piece. Although it has been in my family for over 75 years. I believe the eyes were added, later, because of their excellent condition and placement. I am certain the piece is at least 100 years old but uncertain of its exact age without an authenticator. Which I am not. This was obviously the head of a religious statue. Wouldn't it be wonderful if someone out there in the world had the original missing body? Condition is appropriate for its age. I believe it is made of wood with a polychrome type finish. PRECOLUMBIAN GIANT FROG BOWL Narino Colombia
SquareTrade © AP6.0 This is a reproduction of an original piece from the Capuli culture. Which flourished between 850-1500 A.D. in the mountainous regions near the Colombia-Equador border. This piece is a sacred recipient, a bowl on a slightly raised support, that indicates the importance of its contents. Decorated with raised frog and geometric figures, its use was ceremonial, and can be found in the dark red and black colors most representative of this group. Little is known about these cultures that occupied the area in and near Colombia. The Capuli were excellent goldsmiths and ceramists. The pieces that have survived are of extraordinary beauty. Because of the abundance of gold in the area, once the Spaniards arrived, whole groups were wiped out to loot the treasures. The legend of El Dorado fueled more and more exploration. Even ... moretoday, burial grounds can be discovered and pillaged, leaving little to study. Ceramics that remain today are from tombs, and are ceremonial in their use, representing rituals and events in their lives. Governments have now made international trade of these original pieces illegal. As we piece together bits left behind. We can begin to see cultures that were quite amazing, and begin to see how our world is not as large as we often believe. These pieces are an homage to those cultures. Carefully examined and studied by an experienced archeologist, they are faithfully reproduced from originals, hand crafted by applying the same techniques and the same natural materials used by ancient potters in its elaboration and decoration. Measurements: 9 ½” diameter. 7” high. Ceramic, negative painting, polychrome b

He described the animal life as follows: On land I saw no animal of any kind except parrots and lizards. Today there are few to no natural parrots on the Islands, but there still are lizards. This bone carving is probably of an Iguana deity, and ... morewas originally part of a larger piece such as a scepter. This lizard figure apparently was broken off in ancient times(this is apparent from close inspection) A hole was then drilled near the top and the piece appears to have been worn as a amulet. The original piece was discovered during archeological excavations in Puerto Rico. The figure may represent Marohu. The Spirit of good weather. Marohu was the son of Iguana and was born in the maternal cavern, Iguanaboina cave. He took for himself the representation of the Iguana whose dorsal crest looks like rays of the sun and hence'good weather' Together with his twin brother, Boinayel. God of Rain, the two represent the balance of weather- between sun and rain. However their clashing egos can cause terrible catastrophes for humans. The name iguana or"higuana" is a Taino word. The syllable"gua" begins the Taino words for gold. Parrots, fire, and the names of many chiefs(caciques) It is possible that"gua" was a designation for a favored thing. Indeed, iguanas were one of the favored foods of the Tainos, but by the time the Spanish arrived, iguanas were so rare they were reserved only for the caci

PRE-COLUMBIAN PIARTAL ANFORA (LG) Narino Colombia
This is a reproduction of an original piece from the Piartal culture. Which flourished between 750-1250 A.D. in the mountainous regions near the Colombia-Equador border. This piece was used as a water recipient, the rounded base buried underground to keep its contents cool, and making it easy to tilt and serve to a smaller recipient to bring into the dwelling. Decorated with geometric figures on one side, and raised facial features on the other, it apprears in the colors most representative of life for this group: yellow for the abundance of the sun, black for the wise and silent night, and red for the life inside man. Little is known about these cultures that occupied the area in and near Colombia. The Piartal were excellent goldsmiths and ceramists. The pieces that have survived are of extraordinary beauty. Because of the abundance of gold ... morein the area, once the Spaniards arrived, whole groups were wiped out to loot the treasures. The legend of El Dorado fueled more and more exploration. Even today, burial grounds can be discovered and pillaged, leaving little to study. Measurements: 12 ½” diameter. 27” high. Ceramic, negative painting, polychromatic. Metal stand included in price, height with stand 33" Painting may vary from piece to piece, since all are painted by hand. Powered by The free listing tool. Antique Peruvian Alpaca woven blanket 46x41 1/2 ca.1930 Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 A colorful and intricately woven antique Alpaca blanket or altar cloth measuring 46 x 41 1/2 inches. The colors have not faded. It is superb condition. For the Aymara and Quechua Indians in the Peruvian Andes. Textile art has been the major creative outlet. These descendants of Inca and other Pre-Colombian weavers have concentrated in recent times on intricate warp-patterned structures, producing exquisite fabrics that were both functional and ceremonial. Beginning with traditional motifs, each weaver freely created his or her own variations. Because designing was done with the warps, these articles are all striped. Most weaving processes are less time-consuming than yarn preparation, ... morebut this is not so with the warp-patterned weaves. Andean weavers use no harness controls for their patterning, but pick their complementary-warp designs, one warp yarn at a time. Contrasting colors are warped in pairs in the pattern stripes, and during the weaving one yarn of each pair is selected to create the designs, one by one. The yarns for warp-patterned weaving must be exceptionally well-spun. Plied, and then spun over so they are strong and elastic.

Fabulous Giant Antique Sterling Silver ANDES INDIAN Tupo Pin Bolivia TM627
AKATAKSA RETURN POLICY eBay no longer allows us to automatically accept returns in exchange for merchandise. However. WE WILL CONTINUE TO ACCEPT RETURNS IN EXCHANGE FOR ITEMS IN OUR STORE INVENTORY[buyer pays return shipping within three days of receipt] The new, mandatory 14-day eBay return policy allows unscrupulous buyers the opportunity to peddle and abuse our material for two weeks and then return it for their money back. This policy will create a new wave of crooks that can easily create vast inventories with no investment risks save for the possible minimal cost of return shipping. In the meantime, we lose our packing and shipping expenses, we lose PayPal fees, we lose relisting fees, we lose potential clients, we lose weeks of exposure and we lose potential legitimate sales. Ours is a small operation with over 17 years serving the ... moreindigenous peoples of South America by documenting their cultures and sharing that information with the world. We believe that we offer the best and most accurate eBay descriptions in our field. At the moment. EBay sales are our only source of income. There are five of us working full-time in our Bolivian office plus five indigenous field investigators. That’s 10 people trying to work and support families on what’s often less than $2000 a month, not including operating costs. In the office, each of us makes.72 to.86 cents U.S. per hour and we work 50 to 60-hour weeks. Our monthly eBay sales are extremely important to us and we simply cannot afford to offer money-back returns. WE PROMISE TO DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO ASSURE THAT YOU ARE SATISFIED WITH YOUR PURCHASES. VISIT OUR AKA ARTS STORE A FINE CEREMONIAL SILVER TOPO PIN FROM BOLIVIA.
