Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. The desk is a reproduction made by the Maddox Table Co. of Jamestown, New York. This desk comes right out of the New England estate. The desk has those wonderful features most folks are looking for, such as all-wood drawers with dovetail corners, and clawed feet. The hardware and locks are the originals that came with the desk, not replacements. The desk was in my family for around 60 or so years, so the desk dates to at least 1950, and it may be older than that- I'm just not sure. The desk is the slant-front style, hinged at the bottom, so it opens up and the front lays flat to become the writing surface; the desk front can be locked. When the desk front is opened and lowered into the writing position, two arms come out automatically to support the writing surface. Inside the desk there are 3 small drawers, and holders for stashing letters and so forth. In the center of the opened desk, inside, there is a closed compartment with no lock; the compartment door is scratched. There are 3 drawers below the writing surface that extend almost the full width of the desk, and each one of them can be locked. These drawers have a graceful bow front(see photos) Above the desk itself is a prominent feature, a bookcase with 2 shelves covered by hinged glass doors that swing out and can be locked. The bookcase doors do not line up 100% vertically when closed, a common problem with these desks. This doesn't mean that you can't close them or lock them when closed, but it is something I should point out. Above the bookcase is decorative trim with a twin swan&#

Antique Eastlake Walnut Secretary Desk - Late 1800s
This is an Eastlake secretary from the late 1800s. I think. It's solid wood construction, mostly walnut with walnut burl panels, very tasteful Eastlake geometric details, original wavy glass and beautiful original patina. Three adjustable shelves in the top book case; drop-down writing surface with original felt, two drawers, file bins and pigeon holes; one fixed self in the base. The two locks work with a replacement key, but they are a little sticky, and one of the rosettes that covers the writing panel pivot is missing. Measures: 42 x 85 x 11.5 top, 20 base. I bought this from a private party in DC about 20 years ago and now I'm downsizing a bit, so I hope it finds a good home. antique walnut belter, mitchell & rammelsburg drop front rococo secretary desk
for sale probably the nicest period walnut secretary piece to be had. it was advertised as belter some 20-25 years ago at an estate auction in miss. i expect it is mitchell and rammelsburg but it does not matter. it is civil war era probably made circa 1860-1870. the drawer are hand dove tailed for joints and the bottoms are hand chamfered. it is in perfect condition. the drawers are all solid and do not wiggle or wobble. all the drawers and doors fit perfectly. all drawers and doors have functional locks that work perfectly with the original key. there are no seams in the construction. the sides of the lower drawer portion is one board like 18+ inches wide as well as the sides of the bookcase portion. the walnut used in the construction is of the finest quality with wonderful and perfect grain. it as you see has a pierced carved crest or ... morecrown board that is superbly done and matches the carving on the top of the arched doors of the bookcase. inside the cubbies are perfect along with the drawer. it is a 2 piece affair. The bookcase and cubbies section lifts off the base. it sits on the base and is secured with pegs on either side. i expect the leather on the drop front has been replaced. it is in great condition. the whole piece is just about as good as it can get, not damages or blemishes anywhere that are noteworthy. of course all the large key covers are carved as well as the drawer pulls. it is just a very very nice item. i think it cost about 4500 20 some years ago. i have still have several secretaries and have owned many many of them. i have never owned a nicer one. it is probably the tallest one i have ever owned. it is 98.5 inches to the top of the crest with its original porcelain casters. the cabinet portion is 33 inches tall and 44 inches wide, and 19.5 inches deep. it is 65.6 inches from the top of the cabinet to the top of the crest. the outside of the bookcase is 42 inches wide and 122 inches deep. the inside of the bookcase is 35 inches tall, 10 inches deep, and 40.5 inches wide. the secretary

MAGNIFICENT 9 FT WALNUT VICTORIAN CYLINDER SECRETARY HAND CARVING SHAKESPEARE
This is the finest of Victorian cylinder secretaries-the best I have ever seen. It is enormous: 9' 4"high. And comes in THREE sections: the bookcase top, the middle with the cylinder roll, and the cabinet base. It measures 46 1/2" wide and is 30" deep. Most of it is solid walnut with decorated walnut veneers. The back of the bookcase top is a beautiful decorated birds-eye maple. It has four original, adjustable shelves, a pull out desk in the cylinder. The small drawers in this section are hand-dovetailed, not machined. There are carvings and little lions heads and all kinds of extra ornamentation on this piece. There is some veneer damage on the back side sections, as pictured, and a little veneer damage on the pull out of the desk. Welcome Today's listing is for a 1950's Walnut desk manufactured by the Central Desk Company in Chicago. Illinois. The desk drawer faces and typewriter compartment door are constructed of solid Walnut as well as all of the frame pieces. The top and side panels are Walnut veneer. Originally the desk was all the same color.blah. Boring and normal. I decided to refinish the top to remove unsightly scratches and a water stain(probably from a potted plant) clean and recoat all of the panels, drawer faces and door and paint the frame pieces, bases and hardware black with a low sheen lacquer. On the right hand side of the desk is an old typewriter roll-out and lift compartment. 16526 Antique Victorian Walnut Butler’s Secretary Desk - Civil War Era
We are pleased to be offering today this gorgeous Victorian oversize 107” tall butler’s walnut secretary desk that came in recently. We are always intrigued with these and they are always found in the old dark Civil War era finish which is kind of grungy and doesn’t show the walnut right. So. We brought it into the restoration shop to hand strip(which takes a long time, but is well worth it to leave the patina or original color in the wood) hand sand meticulously throughout, stain the same factory color and applied multiple coats of hand rubbed lacquer until it builds up a beautiful semi glow lustrous finish such as this. It has the original glass, original triple adjustable shelves, we had to replace some of the center slats and the crest is original. Everything on this desk is original except for the exterior finish and the felt that we ... morereplaced. The cabinet dates from the 1860s era. We are fortunate enough to get one or two of these every year, but we scour the entire United States to obtain the rare and hard to find items such as this. This desk has gothic block pyramid columns down on the base with spoon carving on the incise carved and picture frame panel doors that open for a large space that probably had a shelf previous. If the buyer would like us to put a shelf behind the doors, we will do so if you tell us at the time of purchase. The cabinet also features panel sides all the way up, which a cheap one would not as it would be plank sides, but this one is walnut all the way. There is Cornish molding all the way around the shapely two doors that open to reveal a triple shelf adjustable height interior, carved columns with diamond points for motifs and big leaves are carving in with dainty little cornices. The top of the cabinet has a double wide crown molding and a large center finial broken arch top. It doesn’t get much better than this.
