It has claw front feet and is in very good condition, however, it does have ... moresome light surface scratches and general wear that are typical of a piece that probably dates to the early 19th century, although I cannot be completly sure of its age. It has lovely carved accents and trim. The key is intact with it and the little side supports come out automatically when the front writing desk surface is lowered. Someone has unfortunately drilled a hole in the back that is about 2" in diameter. The desk has 4 drawers with all of the original knobs intact. It stands 41" tall at the trim at the back, 40" tall at the top, is 41" wide at the feet, 37" wide at the top, and is a total of 22" deep at the bottom, and 19" deep at the top.

VERY OLD ANTIQUE SLANT DROP FRONT SECRETARY WRITING DESK FROM ENGLAND CONSTRUCTED OF SOLID OAK- I BELIEVE THE HARDARE IS ORIGINAL WITH THE POSSIBLE EXCEPTION OF A FEW SCREWS. THE BACKPLATE ON ONE OF THE SMALL DRAWER KNOBS INSIDE THE DESK IS MISSING. THE 6TH PHOTO SHOWS A CLOSEUP OF THE OLD DROP PULLS THAT ARE ON ALL OF THE 3 LOWER DRAWERS(although it is upside down) THE ENGLISH WERE AMONG THE FIRST TO USE NATURAL PLANT PIGMENTS IN STAINING WOOD FURNITURE AND THIS DESK IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF THAT PROCESS. THE INTERIOR SURFACE OF THE WOOD WAS LEFT NATURAL AND THE DARK AREAS OF THE DESK PORTION ARE OLD INK STAINS. I HAVE LISTED THIS DESK AS BEING FROM THE 1800's. C 1780 ANTIQUE GEORGIAN OAK MAHOGANY SLANT FALL DROP FRONT DESK BUREAU SECRETARY
Here is a fantastic original circa late 1700's English solid oak desk with gorgeous figured mahogany. The mahogany may have been added at a later date such as the early 1800's when mahogany became more popular and more readily available. The pigeon hole interior has a unique look and design with lots of extra added details as well as a well interior below the writing surface which simply slides open. The interior is solid oak.some beautiful quartersawn and this slant front will lock with a replaced lock and key. Hinges are heavy iron and original. The top drawer is a false drawer and then the 2 over 3 drawers are all graduated. All of the drawers inside and out are hand dovetailed as shown. The hardware is a later addition.possibly and most probably changed if and when the figured mahogany veneer was added in the very early 1800's. ... moreThe desk is supported by a bracket foot base. Laudable in every regard as a work of a highly skilled craftsman. The first feat was the selection of boards that would truly set this desk apart- it is an understatement to describe the golden and brilliant flow of mahogany from the slant lid through the top as simply brilliant. It is pure and breathtaking. The paired boards are literally superior to almost every desk we have handled in their visual qualities: the excited swirls of each board flow into one another with a symmetry that is not simply mirrored or"match-booked" but is carefully planned and took great consideration on the part of the craftsman. Effect like this is rare and shows great taste and means. The rest of the case has a warm"plum ... morepudding" appearance to the mahogany. The graduated drawer facades intentionally restrained in order to highlight the stunning gilt-bronze hardware on each drawer. These original pieces are works of art, exceedingly expensive even at the time of production. Flanking the drawers are the drawer slides, these with dangling hand forged gilt bronze pulls. Each of these parts is framed in thin applied cockbead molding; on the drawers, this molding wraps around the hand dovetailed front joints. The sides of the case are solid planks of mahogany. Each a fine and broad selection- the left side is a single plank, the right side is two planks of very close grain formations. The back of the case is undisturbed with even color, the entire case resting over original bracket feet of robust and appropriate breadth to match the overall air of the case. There is no reserve on this really beautiful antique walnut slant front drop lid secretary desk with bookcase top. The bookcase top has 2 shelves above the base of it. The desk is 80 inches tall. 39 inches wide, 17 inches deep. There are 2 dove tailed drawers at the writing surface level, one on either side of the 8 divided storage sections. The writing surface is in good condition. When the drop is open it is supported by 2 wooden boards that pull out under it. When the drop is closed, you can access 1 long dove tailed drawer and below the drawer 2 doors open to a base with 1 shelf in it. All the brass hardware is original and in good condition except a repaired handle on the left side of the bottom of the base. Excellent condition. Buyer must arrange and pay for pick up and delivery.

Rare 18th century Queen Anne slant front desk with bandy legs and slipper feet. This desk is fresh to the market from a local estate. It looks like cherry. But I believe it is actually applewood. It measures 40" wide x 38.5" tall x 17" deep with a writing height of 26" The condition is as follows. The front right foot is broken, but the original piece is there and needs to be glued back on. There are a couple of breaks to the drawer lips(se pictures) The interior is complete, but one of the cutouts on the top of the pigeon holes is replaced. Some of them need to be glued back in place. There is a little worming to the bottom board, but overall a solid piece of furniture. The wooden pulls are replacements. This is a very pretty ladies desk owned by the seller’s family for over 40 years. It has a low applied scroll-carved crest rail over the wide hinged curved slant front and cabriole legs. A fitted interior. Long curved front drawer and two smaller curved front drawers complement the design. Antique Slant Drop Front Oak Secretary Desk - Lionhead
I am not an expert but an antique furniture appraiser looked at this piece recently and stated this is a unique desk that he's never seen one quite like it. It was likely made in the early 1900's. Made of oak. And has a spooncarved front. There are no identifying markings. It is in excellent shape and it has the original finish. Brass fittings show a bit of tarnish but should clean up easily with a little TLC. Three of the posts on the brass rail at the top are loose but can be easily secured with a little bit of attention. Here is an absolutely gorgeous antique mahogany desk with lovely burl mahogany veneer and border design inlay. Circa 1840 and American made. This slant front desk drawers. The desk stands 43 inches tall and measures 38 inches wide by 21 inches deep, front to back. The writing surface itself is 36 inches wide by 21 inches from front to back. The surface is beautiful and in very good condition. The inside of the desk also reveals 16 small drawers and an additional cubby with lovely inlay door as shown. Below the desk slant front. T here are four large drawers. Each 31 1/2 inches wide and 18 1/4 inches front to back and then 2 3/4, 3 3/4, 4 3/4 and 6 inches deep respectively, in descending order. The dovetails are not hand cut and irregular. But are consistent. Online I found this description: A close inspection shows no irregular saw cuts or variation from a skilled craftsman, but rather a precise and identical manufactured machined joint. These machine-cut dovetails are as strong and long lasting as the hand-made joints, and became the standard of better American furniture ever since the late 1890's. So this desk may be very late 1800s or early 1900s. Another indication is that the back is not multiple boards. But appears to be an early plywood? There is a tiny hole drilled in the back where I think my dad had our phone(land line) cord come in so the phone could be in the desk. Regardless, it is a beautiful old desk. Raised picture frame molding is featured on each side of the base with wide recessed carvings on each side of the bookcase top which has a slight Gothic influence. Additional wide recessed carving is present on the slant front portion of the desk with the original pull out support slides intact. This secretary breaks down into two pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving. Parts Timepieces Craft Art watch repairman estates and material house findings from 40 years travels around and about. Scroll down to see the 36 photographs. Estate of Howard Frankland of Tampa. Florida. This is originally from the est ate of Howard Frankland- Tampa Businessman who proposed the bridge named after him between Tampa and St. Petersburg. If it is needed I can find the original buyer of the estate years ago but doubt I can find the relative who sold the house contents out. Size of this desk is as follows: Height 44 1/2 inches Depth 17 inches. Base is 41 inches by 17 inches. Top of desk is 7 inches. Top of desk has a light spot from water from a flower vase staining the wood light. Drawer sizes are staggered: 1st drawer is 4 1/2 inches height. 2nd drawer is 5 1/2 inches height. 3rd drawer 6 1/4 inches height. 4th drawer 7 1/4 inches ... moreheight, I did not measure the drop down lid or the cubby holes or the little drawers. measurements are pretty close with a ruler. I have been to a furniture refinisher who has dealt in early furniture for 50 years and the desk is cherry with poplar secondary wood. Meaning the drawer sides and bottoms of the drawers. The bottom of the desk or base board underneath with the dovetails extended through is pine. The brasses are later and one is missing on the bottom drawer. The period is 1840-60s. The photos were taken on a cloudy day with a flash and some look dark but it is a reddish color. There are a lot of square nails in the back some appear square some are round. The bottom underneath has square nails. Almost everything is dovetailed but the back boards. The foot is called a bracket foot. There is a crack in the top right side of the slant front. The desk was originally used by another business man also. The next owner was a business man also and the last user was a nice teenage daughter and has powder and dust in the cubby holes from makeup and play toys stored in all the neat drawers and the dresser drawers as well. The mahogany would have probably been added at a later date such as the early 1800's when figured mahogany veneer became more popular and more readily available. The pigeon hole interior has a unique look and design with lots of extra added details as well as a well interior below the writing surface which simply slides open. The interior is solid oak.some beautiful quartersawn and this slant front will lock with a replaced lock and key. Hinges are heavy iron and original. The top drawer is a false drawer and then the 2 over 3 drawers are all graduated. All of the drawers inside and out are hand dovetailed as shown. The hardware is a later addition.possibly and most probably changed if and when the figured mahogany veneer ... morewas added in the very early 1800's. The desk is supported by a bracket foot base. ABOUT THE ITEM Handcarved Serpentine Front Slant Desk Made 1780-1830 No Manufacturers Mark Size: 40" Tall. 29 1/2" Wide, 19" Deep Excellent condition. No chips, cracks, or dents. Fully functional. We picked this beautiful peice up at an estate sale. The previous owners didn't know much about its origins. But thought it to be an italian peice from the late 18th-early 19th century. The desk was appraised at $2500+ by an antique specialist, but are letting it go for less as we have been unable to confirm its origins. It is definitely hand-carved, and is an amazing exhibit of craftsmanship. Has three serpentine. Dovetailed, drawers with intricate handcarvings on the front(3 3/4" deep) and a lock in each drawer. The slant lid is ornately carved, and lowers for a desk surface of 28 1/2" Four letter drawers are inside ... moreslant, as well as pigeonholes for supplies.
