Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. The desk is a reproduction made by the Maddox Table Co. of Jamestown, New York. This desk comes right out of the New England estate. The desk has those wonderful features most folks are looking for, such as all-wood drawers with dovetail corners, and clawed feet. The hardware and locks are the originals that came with the desk, not replacements. The desk was in my family for around 60 or so years, so the desk dates to at least 1950, and it may be older than that- I'm just not sure. The desk is the slant-front style, hinged at the bottom, so it opens up and the front lays flat to become the writing surface; the desk front can be locked. When the desk front is opened and lowered into the writing position, two arms come out automatically to support the writing surface. Inside the desk there are 3 small drawers, and holders for stashing letters and so forth. In the center of the opened desk, inside, there is a closed compartment with no lock; the compartment door is scratched. There are 3 drawers below the writing surface that extend almost the full width of the desk, and each one of them can be locked. These drawers have a graceful bow front(see photos) Above the desk itself is a prominent feature, a bookcase with 2 shelves covered by hinged glass doors that swing out and can be locked. The bookcase doors do not line up 100% vertically when closed, a common problem with these desks. Meubles RINCK" is an entity specializing in high end furniture inside the RINCK group. The desk is 52" wide x 27" deep x 30 1/2" high. The underside is stamped with the maker's mark by M. Rinck and the seal of"UNION NATle INDUSTRIE FRANCAISES DE L'AMEUBLEMENT" The 3 drawers all lock with a deadbolt and each have their own key. The two outside drawers measure 10 1/2" wide X 20" deep X 3" high with the middle drawer measuring 15 1/2" wide X 21" deep X 3" high. This desk was my father's pride and joy. My earliest memories of it date back to the 1970s when we lived in NYC and it was in his private study. It is in excellent condition with signs of use on the burgundy leather working area on top which also has a couple of stains. A competent furniture restorer can easily replace this leather piece but I would order a replacement directly from Rinck to preserve the desk's heritage. The following information was supplied by Rinck in reply to my recent email inquiry regarding the desk's provenance: Dear Sir, I can confirm that desk is coming from our company and Parisian work shop. I can not be more precise about the year. Because all client's files are archived, but: It is a Louis XV style desk, traditionally manufactured with a solid oak structure, with mortaises and tenons joined, hand dovetail joins for the drawers, black lacquered finishing, ornate with sand casted, chiseled, and ormolu set of bronze. The round UNIFA stamp on the underside of the desk is there to assure the desk has respectability and was constructed to the standards of the Professional Union. Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. The desk is a reproduction made by the Maddox Table Co. of Jamestown, New York. This desk comes right out of the New England estate. The desk has those wonderful features most folks are looking for, such as all-wood drawers with dovetail corners, and clawed feet. The hardware and locks are the originals that came with the desk, not replacements. The desk was in my family for around 60 or so years, so the desk dates to at least 1950, and it may be older than that- I'm just not sure. The desk is the slant-front style, hinged at the bottom, so it opens up and the front lays flat to become the writing surface; the desk front can be locked. When the desk front is opened and lowered into the writing position, two arms come out automatically to support the writing surface. Inside the desk there are 3 small drawers, and holders for stashing letters and so forth. In the center of the opened desk, inside, there is a closed compartment with no lock; the compartment door is scratched. There are 3 drawers below the writing surface that extend almost the full width of the desk, and each one of them can be locked. These drawers have a graceful bow front(see photos) Above the desk itself is a prominent feature, a bookcase with 2 shelves covered by hinged glass doors that swing out and can be locked. The bookcase doors do not line up 100% vertically when closed, a common problem with these desks. Antique writing desk secretary 1800's Please read provenance.
This rare and ornately beautiful writing desk was discovered at the estate sale of the heirs of Mrs. Theodore Peterson of Boston. The desk came with a handwritten history of the desk. Said to have been bought by Mrs Peterson in England sometime in the 1800's. Mrs. Peterson is said to be the mother of civil war officer Homer Black's wife. Eugenie Peterson. Mrs. Peterson died in Harrisburg in 1924 according to the timeline document. The estate sale conductors claimed that the desk had hand written letters from civil war officer Black in it but they were removed by the family to be kept in the family. I have done no personal research to support the letter's claim and thus do not guarantee the claim of the letter or the estate sale conductor's story but I will include the letter that came with it. The condition is amazing considering ... moreits age. The drawer pulls are missing. The leather top is worn out and separated at the seam, the top handle is missing, there is some damage where the pull or possibly a latch was originally, there is missing veneer on the right side of the top. See pics. Despite all this, the dovetail joints are tight, the hinges are set in place and the only odor it emits is that of wood. No smoke or mildew, just good old wood smell. I will carefully pack and ship to the lower 48 for $18.00 and I will ship to other locations at a calculated rate depending on country or location.

This is an autograph by Charles F. Davis. The Secretary of the Navy in 1932. It was secured by Ruth Johnson and he autographed the bottom of her letter requesting his autograph. It is accompanied the envelope sending the autograph to Miss Johnson. It is from the Office of the Secretary, Department of the Navy, Washington. The postal cancellation is from Washington, D. C. and dated Aug. 13, 1932. It has a printed frank rather than a stamp. All of the pieces are in good condition. The autograph was authenticated by a local expert and is guaranteed to be authentic.

And walnut is a good quality which make the furniture last a long time) and the with hand carved Chippendale feet. Kling was produced by Kling between 1911 and 1923. Then between 1924 and 1930, Kling offered furniture made of French Walnut and American Walnut in which they were described as"Butt Walnut, selected veneer, and"combination walnut. Probably India, c.1820-40, possibly Vizagapatum This secretary is a rare piece of campaign furniture. As campaign secretaries are a rarity. We imagine this was probably the general's piece, and he certainly wasn't anywhere near the battlefield. The aboyna wood is absolutely fabulous, and is a very thick veneer, which has aged beautifully over time, developing an agreeable mellow tone and no real shrinkage cracks. It all comes apart. The pediment is detachable, with its original finial and embellishments. The upper case reveals a typical Hepplewhite construction ... moreform with prospect door and various sized file and drawer elements. The drawers retain their original delicate ivory pulls and the prospect drawer reveals a valance giving the entire interior a special grace. The lower cases are quite interesting, as the top board slides forward, revealing a writing tablet flanked by sliding drawers above additional compartments(see three images of the various configurations of this) What is of interest to us is that. While much campaign furniture is of varying quality, this clearly is one of the best of the type we have ever seen, and better than anything illustrated in the seminal work on Campaign furniture- British Campaign Furniture: Elegance under Canvas, 1740-1914, Nicholas A. Brawer. The closest piece we come to this is a dressing bureau with writing tablet, attached hereto. The condition of this piece is absolutely superlative and probably earlier than later. Given the Hepplewhite style. It is the best of the best; indeed a masterpiece. The reason we feel this is probably Indian. This beautiful piece was recently removed from an old home here in NH where it stood proudly since new. The past 60 or so years has taken its toll. The lid has an old veneer repair, the interior has lots of wear and tear and one side of the sliding lid support is not moving out as it should. Antique Secretary desk of solid oak. We bought this as an antique 30 years ago. We've used it as a bookcase and desk(see how desk portion folds out) But all the shelves may be taken out and it can be used as a gun cabinet. The desk has claw feet- and original keyholes. It is in really good shape. Pick-up only. we live in north-central Indiana. Hope someone can use and appreciate! Pretty and practical. This Victorian oak piece combines a curved glass china cabinet with a drop front desk. The china cabinet has adjustable shelves, and can also be used as a bookcase. There is a fitted interior behind the drop front with a small drawer and various size cubbyholes for papers and envelopes. Additional storage is found in the three drawers below the desk section. The carved decorative top piece has 1 shaped beveled mirror and a small shelf. The ... morefront legs end in hand carved claw feet and the entire piece is of Oak. Hardware and casters are original. The original label on the back indicates that this piece was made in Rockford. Illinois and shipped to Goshen, Indiana. The overall height is 76 inches. Width is 40 inches and depth is 14 inches.
