A beautiful Wenge veneered top on a solid ebonized Oak"X Form" base and stretcher. All original parts and woods. There is no evidence of there ever having been any alteration or restoration. The top has some discoloration from the sun and a couple small areas(1" in diam. where the veneer is lifting creating a very slight rise in the veneer. The wenge has an"open grain" finish and the grain has some deeper/longer pores than in other places- if undesirable these can be easily filled. For a dealer you may want to restore this piece and there is little to do to make it perfect again. For the casual purchaser you can leave it as is and be happy. For the collector you could go either way. In the past I attributed this piece to a specific Scandinavian furniture designer from the 1950's and specifically to 1957 but for ... morethe life of me I can't put my brain on that name! Antique English Oak Secretary Desk Barley Twist
Unique. Beautiful, dark oak secretary desk made in England. I am not a professional; this piece is from my home. The gentleman I bought it from told me it was English, made about 1910-20. This piece is sturdy; 78" x 37 1/2" x 17 1/2" at the deepest desk portion. The top attaches to the desk with two screws and therefore can be dismantled for transit. Barley twist design on all four legs. I don't see any name of maker on wood. The lock to the drop-down desk door is marked"English Made" and"USA 2232/12 PAT EVER" Glass is original and wavy. Not chipped, cracked, or broken or missing. Glass door design features mission styling. Inside of glass top there are 3 moveable shelves and sawtooth wood shelf hangers up to the top 4" or so and the bottom 4" or so to hang the shelves. Has original bolt latch ... moreon the bottom of left glass door that bolts into the bottom of the cabinet. Comes with a key that locks the glass doors. But the key doesn't seem to move the desk lock, though it does fit into it. Drop-down desk door has bead design and wood appliqué on the front. Hinges have seen repairs from earlier damage but the desktop/door functions fine. Two wood support bars for the drop-down door extend automatically when door is opened. Cabinet hardware is original except the drawer pulls are replacements(the original pulls were attached by a single screw) The drawers slide very well for a piece this age. Have dovetail joinery, are sturdy and don't wiggle. Look the photos over carefully. We're happy to answer questions about this unique and attractive piece and will send more photos of a particular area. This heavy piece needs to be picked up or shipping arranged by the buyer. But it has all the correct attributes and quality that speaks for itself. My research shows that many of Stickley's pieces were unsigned, or possibly had a label which could've fallen off over the years. This is 100% guaranteed to be 100% authentic Gustav Stickley! Beautiful Antique Golden Oak Desk with Carvings & One Center Drawer
This is a very versatile piece of furniture that is a desk but may have many other uses. The carvings(feet and sides at corners photo#4) appear hand carved and the piece could very well be prior to 1900. But I listed it 1900+ to be sure. It is a solid wood throughout and in fairly good condition-VG. It measures on top at 45.5" W and 28"D. It can add a classic look to any room with its' great style and golden oak grained color. The desk top is 29" above the floor and comfortable to sit at. The center drawer is 22"W. The"paws" are all similar and are 3"X 3.5" see photo#3) There is a small dark blemish on the wood top on the left(see photo#2) that I began to remove but it is incomplete. The bottom shelf is of a nice sweeping shape and adds to the versatility. The center drawer appears to be a replacement( ... moredrawer. It needs gluing in the front where there is a few inch separation. But it is not a difficult clamping job at all. There is a light small separation on top of the front lid that could use a little gluing to make this lovely piece in VG+++ condition. Beautiful antique golden oak index card filing box. Made by the Weis Manufacturing Company of Monroe. Michigan. The Weis label is clean and bright. The box measures 5 3/4" long x 3 1/4" deep x 4 1/4" tall. The box is construct ed of 5/16" thick oak and uses fingerjoints for stren gth. Metal hinge s are in good working order. Finish was restored using Formby's Finish Re storer an d polished with 0000 ste el wool and pa ste-wax to a soft lustre. Excellent condition. All joints are solid. Light green ink stain on bottom. Seven turned spindles run down the back of the chair. Wide bentwood oak arms flank each side of the seat. The seat was originally cane but has been replaced with a black foux leather surrounded by brass tacks. Vintage 1900-1950's child's swivel desk chair-believed to be made of oak. Has been refinished in a darker stain. Good condition for its age. One leg cracked at the very top by cast iron fasteners. Back is wiggly-probably just needs tightening. One seam on seat of chair is beginning to separate. Bottom of chair legs are losing their finish. Scuffs and scratches here and there.
