VERY OLD ANTIQUE SLANT DROP FRONT SECRETARY WRITING DESK FROM ENGLAND CONSTRUCTED OF SOLID OAK- I BELIEVE THE HARDARE IS ORIGINAL WITH THE POSSIBLE EXCEPTION OF A FEW SCREWS. THE BACKPLATE ON ONE OF THE SMALL DRAWER KNOBS INSIDE THE DESK IS MISSING. THE 6TH PHOTO SHOWS A CLOSEUP OF THE OLD DROP PULLS THAT ARE ON ALL OF THE 3 LOWER DRAWERS(although it is upside down) THE ENGLISH WERE AMONG THE FIRST TO USE NATURAL PLANT PIGMENTS IN STAINING WOOD FURNITURE AND THIS DESK IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF THAT PROCESS. 1890-1920 ART NOUVEAU DROP FRONT DESK/ SECRETARY + BENCH This turn-of-the-century mahogany desk has been finished in a durable satin oil-base paint to bring a contemporary feel to a classic antique style. It features plenty of storage space within a compact design. Opened or closed. This desk makes a statement in elegant simplicity. There is a slight crack in the wood at the bottom left of the door. Only on the outside. it does not go through, nor does it affect the beauty or functionality of the piece. It is a minor flaw and very common in a 90+ year old antique. As you will see from the image above(as in real life) It is not noticeable until you are specifically looking for it, or until your face is right up to it. As in the image below. The height of this desk is 50.5 inches. But don't worry about transporting it. It breaks down into ... moretwo sections. The top section sits down snuggly into the bottom section. So there is no risk of it tipping off. It needs to be lifted straight up out of the base to disassemble it. The depth of the desk is 15 inches. So this could even be used in a smaller room, giving you the advantage of an all-inclusive secretary without the large footprint. The width is 31 inches. This is a perfect size! You can see from the back how the top section sits down into the base with a protective moulding around the front and sides. Even with the bench. The footprint of this desk is minimal. and how gorgeous is its profile? And. By the way, the moldings and applied carvings are all intact throughout. Here's a picture with the unit broken down. When you look at the base. You can see how deep the moulding is that wraps tightly around the upper section, but you can't see the groove inside the moulding that drops the upper section even further down into the base. Here is a fantastic original circa late 1700's English solid oak desk with gorgeous figured mahogany. The mahogany may have been added at a later date such as the early 1800's when mahogany became more popular and more readily available. The pigeon hole interior has a unique look and design with lots of extra added details as well as a well interior below the writing surface which simply slides open. The interior is solid oak.some beautiful quartersawn and this slant front will lock with a replaced lock and key. Hinges are heavy iron and original. The top drawer is a false drawer and then the 2 over 3 drawers are all graduated. All of the drawers inside and out are hand dovetailed as shown. Here is a fabulous and rare find these days. a gorgeous Limbert's quartersawn oak desk. Made in the United States in the early 1900's and bearing the Limbert's Furniture burned in the wood mark as shown. According to Wikipedia's information on Limbert, Charles P. Limbert(1854-1923) was founder of the Limbert Furniture Company and a contemporary of Gustav Stickley. Although the two most likely didn't know each other. Stickley was more of a self-promoter while Limbert was content to let his furniture speak for itself) Limbert's quartersawn oak furniture is characteristic of the Arts and Crafts movement in America; some of it looks similar to that produced by other makers of the day. Many of the company's better pieces. However, are pleasingly unique, are solidly constructed and stand on their own merits. As far as ... morebiographical information they state Charles Limbert was born in Linesville. Pennsylvania in either 1854 or 1856. The son of cabinetmaker and furniture dealer Levi H. Limbert. After moving with his family in 1866 to Akron, Ohio, he later learned the furniture business in the 1870s at his father's store. As a young man in Akron the first business he tried on his own was in the carriage trade. After leaving his adopted hometown in the mid-1880s he moved west and began his career as a furniture salesman. Charles started making chairs in Grand Rapids. Michigan while continuing to distribute furniture made by others. Limbert established a factory in 1902 where he designed and built what he termed"Dutch Arts and Crafts"style furniture and light fixtures. In 1906 he opened a factory in Holland. Michigan. Which he regarded as a more healthy environment for his workers. Limbert continued to manage his company until 1922, when poor health prompted him to sell his share in the company. Estate fresh! A fantastic vintage Gustav Stickley arts and crafts 729 drop front desk. Early 20th century made around 1909. Decent original finish with hammered copper pulls and complete pigeon hole gallery insert inside with key. Two over three drawers. Thru-tenon slab sides and pegged to the front lower stretcher also pegged in the front by the top. Condition is very good but the drop needs restoration. It has numerous chips in the veneer. Some roughness on the edges and front corner on the feet and edges but typical wear from something that's over one hundred years old. The pigeon hole gallery inside has some wear and the door is cracked and needs repair. Slight separation on the left slab side but very tight. No wobbles or looseness. Measurements are approximately 36.5" wide by about 15" deep and is 45" high. Signed ... morewith the red decal compass mark inside the right drawer. A hard to find desk being offered as found, just needs a little TLC to bring it back. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer but I would be happy to assist. Three drawers and one small lower cabinet. There are nice floral carvings on the top drawer and on the Slant Front door. The drawers do open and close smoothly. There is an old slide lock which seams to have been added a very long time ago to keep the Slant Front door closed. On the inside there are 16 various size compartments and one small drawer. All drawers are dovetailed. The writing area has a leather surface but is worn with some rips to it and should be replaced. It is usable as is but we can replace it for you for an additional $175.00 if you wish. The desk overall is very solid and in very good condition with no movement whatsoever. Early 1800's American Antique Federal Slant Drop Front / Secretary Desk
This is a gorgeous. Early 1800's, American Federal style secretary. Solid wood made from cherry and tiger oak. Has a beautiful tulip inlay. It has some slight cracks on the slant top of the desk shown in photos but is in great condition for being 200 years old. The right pull-out support for the desk is missing the knob but an easy fix. Dimensions are 42"H x 42"W x 20"D.

Antique Circa 1890’s Oak Secretary– Secretariat with a glass front Hutch Cabinet and front drop desk. It is wonderfully Crafted using solid quarter saw oak. Its elegant hand carved ribbon and floral edging motif with a candle shelf and beveled glass mirror are an eye catcher. The cabinet is designed with five shelves; four of them are adjustable with the bottom stationary. The secretariat section is designed with a drop/ pulls down desk top. One drawer and a lower cabinet. The inside of the desk has a multi wooden slot organizer. It measures 69” high x 13 ¾” deep x 39 ¾” wide. All the doors and one drawer maintain their original locks. It is missing three of its front lock plates. The one drawer does have its original hardware. Two handles and one lock face. It maintains a warm aged oak finish. There does appear to be some ware ... moreto its finish with a few scratch marks to the one side. The other side panel does have some kind of writing on it. I believe this can be cleaned up. Made of walnut and burled walnut veneer, the desk has 3 drawers in the lower section, the middle section is a drop front desk with pigeon holes and leather work space, the upper section has leaded glass doors and adjustable shelves. Measures 71- 1/4" tall(almost 6 feet) x 29- 1/2" wide; the lower section is 16" deep, the upper is 7- 3/4" deep. Condition is excellent as shown in the photos. 1800 curved glass bookcase / inlaid marketry drop front secretary desk unusual
hello. i have a nice old antique drop front secretary. the wood would seem to be mahogany. And some mahogany veneer. marketry front from an estate sale. Just down the road, i will tell you all that i know about it. a bit of damage. But it appears to have it all. and the damage is all minor) nice beveled mirror& shelf. a lead glass top section( missing an inside shelf) a curved glass door on the left( bookshelf) side. the glass is wavy and i am certain it is original. a drop front secretary( a bit of veneer loss on the surface) but look at the inlay in the center. original pigeon holes inside of the desk( one drawer is missing a tiny brass knob inside) the drawer directly beneath the desk is burl wood and it has a serpentine( curved) front. the other 3 drawers. 2 bottom and the small one over the desk are flat front) i do not have a 2 ... moredollar key that fits. also 2 of the original locks are missing the bookcase shelves are curved front. But i think perhaps the pulls are not original. a spot of white paint on the frame of the door is easily removed. and 2 bits of veneer to replace on the desk front. it had casters on the bottom, but they are no longer with this piece of furniture. it is easy to find 4 more. i have not cleaned the dust off this unusual piece. i just got it yesterday. it would seem to have the original finish and save for the pulls( and they may be original as well. it is exactly as it was made. perhaps victorian. There is no reserve on this really beautiful antique walnut slant front drop lid secretary desk with bookcase top. The bookcase top has 2 shelves above the base of it. The desk is 80 inches tall. 39 inches wide, 17 inches deep. There are 2 dove tailed drawers at the writing surface level, one on either side of the 8 divided storage sections. The writing surface is in good condition. When the drop is open it is supported by 2 wooden boards that pull out under it. When the drop is closed, you can access 1 long dove tailed drawer and below the drawer 2 doors open to a base with 1 shelf in it. All the brass hardware is original and in good condition except a repaired handle on the left side of the bottom of the base. Excellent condition. Buyer must arrange and pay for pick up and delivery.
