Description: This listing is for a ... moreChippendale Period Slant Front Desk circa 1770-80. Salem Massachusetts, in the manner of John Chipman(b. 1746-1819) It features solid Cuban Mahogany case, each side crafted of a single solid plank, through-dovetailed at the top and dovetailed at the bottom. The slant front lid features an original keyhole escutcheon over what appears to be the original brass lock, falling onto arms that slide out with brass knobs- one original, the left one replaced. The open writing surface is clean, with what appear to be two original brass hinges, though curious patching is noted below flaking each hinge. Above the writing surface is a collection of nine small drawers, the centermost shell carved, each with brass knobs, below which a gallery of six pigeon holes rest in perfect symmetry. The case has four graduated drawers. Each of which feature period bail pull brass hardware flanking a replaced lock with original brass keyhole escutcheon. The drawers are hand dovetailed front and back, the front dovetails hidden behind applied cockbead molding. The drawers are yellow pine secondaries, the bottom being deeply chamfered along the perimeter to rabbet into the frame. They slide easily in and out of the case over replaced drawer runners, the drawer dividers running into the sides behind a mahogany facade, effectively hiding what are probably dovetail joints. The back of the case has all original backboards, though many nails are replaced. The molded apron features a carved shell drop down medallion in the center that mirrors the design of the middle drawer. The case rests over scroll cut bracket feet, each with an incredible flowing design in the manner of John Chipman. We do not believe the desk was executed in the shop of John Chipman. As his cases will typically feature exposed dovetail drawer dividers in the Newport manner, and the pidgeon-hole gallery will regularly featur

The Mahogany has a Polished Finish, Very Shiney. There are a few Tiny Dings on the front edge. There Located about 1-2" down from the top. There's also a few slight scuffs on the side. These are not that noticeable. They may polish off. I tried to Show them in the Pictures. There is a Chip in the base. See Picture#6. This Clock Works Great. Keeps Correct Time. The craftsman of this precious drop-front secretary desk( secrétaire à abattant) showed exceeding care in every aspect of his creation. A vivid and active work, the brilliant mahogany veneers are burnished into a deep shine with the French polished finish, highlighted with gilded ormolu mounts throughout- these may or may not be original to the work, but their presence without a doubt elevates and completes the form. The delicate writing surface drops open under a heavy bolted steel lock, functional and retaining it's original ... morekey, revealing a selection of two small drawers flanking a larger central drawer. All five drawers are hand dovetailed oak secondary woods with a chamfered bottom set in grooves on either side and nailed(modern nail) along the back edge for stability. The writing surface is clean and remains in fine condition with a replaced leather top; the surface is probably not ideal for functional use, as the weight of arms and leaning would not be healthy for the long term preservation of the desk, but it is very much a stable and strong surface for presentation. Above the surface is a broad single drawer. Tucked beneath the mahogany top and flanked by beautiful round columns and seven-pointed stars on either corner. This drawer, as well as the drawer beneath the writing surface, is constructed in a manner identical to the interior drawers. The whole of the desk is raised on a pair of thick tapered mahogany columns with pressed brass rings capping and footing the columns; these are exceptionally well detailed with a series of impressed stars and foliage over the checkered cylinder. I'm selling this beautiful antique secretary made of solid mahogany that I received from a gentleman who said it was in his family for 7 generations and was originally purchased in the Hudson River Valley in New York by his steamboat captain great-great-great-great-great grandfather in approximately 1800. It has 3 hidden compartments and lots of pigeon holes and small drawers. It comes with the keys for the upper hutch. The fold down desk and the small door inside but not the drawers below. It has the original glass, which is wavy and has bubbles in it, in both panels on the left side but not on the right side. One pane is missing on the right side but would be easy enough to replace. Lots of character on this gorgeous old piece. It measures 81 inches high, 47 inches wide and is 23-1/2 inches deep at the bottom. It comes apart in two ... morepieces so the bottom part is 41-1/2 inches high, 47 wide and 23-1/2 deep and the top part is 39-1/2 inches high, 47 inches wide and 12 inches deep. Offered is a North American P-51"Mustang" Hand Made Mahogany Desk Model Airplane. This is a replica of C.E. Bud" Anderson's own"Old Crow" in which he became a triple ace in. I had this model signed in person by Mr. Anderson at the annual Reading. PA World War II Weekend Airshow. It was signed in on June 6, 2009 as you can plainly see, as it was dated by him when he signed it. I then clear coated the area where he signed it so I would never have to worry the signature fading or wearing off over time. The model itself has an 18" wingspan and the fuselage measures 16-1/2" On the stand it is about 10" high. As stated, this model is made from mahogany wood and it has the typical hairline cracks at each point wear the wings join the fuselage(tried to get them to show in the pictures) I have, and have ... morehad, several of these type models and this is just an unfortunate thing that occurs as these models age and are exposed to the various changes in temperature and humidity. Luckily the cracks on this model are not noticeable unless you physically get down and look very closely at this model. The stand is the original one and it too is very nice. This is a very Unique Design. This Folding Desk may be a( Magic Box) By Mummenthaler and Meier form Switzerland. They designed the folding desk in 1928 and called it the MAGIC BOX. There is no label or marks so this is just a guess. But it looks like one of theirs. The only desk I can find by Mummerthaler and Meier is newer from the 1950s. I think this one is older(30s or 40s) This desk is walnut or mahogany veneer and has been used alot. It has scratches, some dings and some small chips in the veneer see photos. This Attractive writing desk is made out of solid wood, and it has a Victorian style medium/dark red/brown stain finish color that makes it look like Mahogany but it is definitely a hard wood that looks more like OAK to me. There is a slight curve to the front to the drawer sides which adds a very nice flair. The top is solid wood, not veneer. It is in it’s original condition so there are scratches on the desktop due to normal everyday wear. There is a Decorative edge that has been added to the edge of the top that may not have been original. Beautiful Mahogany Governor Winthrop Desk w/ Key - Sacks Furniture
I can't date this piece. But can tell you the hardware looks very old. The screws appear to me to be handmade. This was worked on, the handles are threaded with a very small bolt. I'm not an expert, but that does not seem as if it would be original to me. There are a couple small condition issues that I have to get photos of for interested buyer, but this is in great shape and a wonderful piece. I can deliver within New England for a fee, and this item can be viewed at my storefront. I will work with your shipper. Don't miss out! Which causes the top piece of the lock to not line up with the lock itself. The only other problem is to the pine bottom. It was reattached with round head nails sometime in the early 20 th century. There are no other problems or restorations to this antique American Primitive Desk. This remarkable and exquisite Flame Mahogany Empire Butler's Chest is very striking and beautiful. The Chest is constructed of a mix of Mahogany and Cherry. It has three upper drawers; two with convex molded contours and original glass pulls. The center drawer is flat with a key hole. All the drawers are hand cut dovetail joints on all four corners of each drawer. Extremely amazing construction. The middle drawer. When opened with the original glass pulls, reveals a hidden desk compartment consisting of 2 vertical and 4 horizontal secretairian drawers with brass knob pulls, 4 accessible cubbieholes, a center securable lock box that was employed for confidenetials. Antique Early 1800s Mahogany Lap Desk With Drawer
This is a large Antique Early 1800s Mahogany Lap Desk. It is 15.75"x 9.5"x 5.75"high and weighs 7 lbs. The brass hardwear is original. The key has been lost. It has a full width dovetailed drawer with a brass locking rod. There is a lever which holds open the lid so it can be used as a book rest. There was originally a wooden rest with small pegs that fitted into brass lined holes on the top back edge to hold the book. Look carefully at the photos. No returns. This nice. Rare, mahogany, roll top desk with legs gives it a lighter, refined look. It has lots of cubbies, drawers with wood adjustable dividers, slots and shelves. Also typewriter"hideaway" shelf. Two corner"braces" are actually drawers. Bottom 2 right hand drawers are one deep drawer. Some scratches to desk top surface and front of typewriter shelf face. Also, small right hand drawer below the 4 slots has a few scratches. Please see pics. This is pick-up only in northern PA. The size is 53 3/4" wide, 33 1/4" deep, and 50 7/8" high.
