The chair shown to give a sense of scale Item# 110105PII25 This is a remarkably well preserved English Georgian Mahogany Kneehole Desk from the third quarter of the 18th century. It is crafted of well figured solid single boards of Mahogany on the top and sides- there is no veneer on this desk. Just solid boards of full grain mahogany. A simply molded edge runs the perimeter of the top, each corner scalloped. Each drawer is hand dovetailed front and back, with thin oak frame construction and thin oak drawer bottoms- all drawers are fully original and lack any adjustments and restorations to the secondary construction. Glowing hand forged brass hardware adorns each drawer. Appearing to have never been removed from the piece. Inside each drawer, as well as the tiny door in the kneehole area, silver metal locks are secured and functional. Each lock appears to be original, each uniquely cut on the right hand corner for all small drawers- it would appear the craftsman was presented with the challenge of making the lock of his choice fit the small space in conjunction with the pull hardware, and overcame this but cutting the corners of each lock. Hand made screws are visible throughout the lock hardware. While we cannot say for certain if the key is original, it is of the period, hand made and very similar in metal color to that of the locks. Each drawer is lip-molded and slides flawlessly in and out of the desk. Just below the top drawer is a secret drawer compartment. Appearing to be part of the frame design, but actually pulls outward smoothly as an extra hand dovetailed drawer. The wide top drawer pulls out to reveal a full dust shelf. Possibly Edwardian era desk or library table is in excellent condition. I have owned it since 1980 and have not altered the finish. Although it may have been refinished prior to my ownership. This desk is very sturdy. The dimensions are 40" long X 25 1/4" deep X 28 1/4" high. Nice chunky brass hardware is complete and original. This desk is constructed of solid wood.no veneers.which I think is flame mahogany. The dovetailed drawers are constucted of what appears to be bird's eye maple bottoms(which is a very high quality wood to be used on drawer interiors) and oak sides. There is one center drawer and two deeper. More narrow drawers on the right side. Drawers all work smoothly. There is a platform at the lower level of the desk. The four feet are carved animal-type. This is an antique mahogany table that was used in a hallway to hold the telephone and the big telephone books that would be placed in the open areas on either side. There is a center drawer with two brass knobs. The table can be used as a small desk in a child's room as well. The top shows marks of age. North Electric Model 7H6 Desk Set This telephone set is a North Electric 7H6 desk set telephone. It was made in Galion. Ohio, U.S.A. It was manufactured in 1953. And is stamped as such inside the set on the base. The telephone is made of brown bakelite. Including the handset and the finger wheel attached to the main shaft of the dial. The official factory color designation for this set. Is“Mahogany” While I wouldn’t classify this set as“rare” It is hard to find. A set such as this one. Equipped with a North manufactured dial, with a bakelite finger wheel, still in one piece, is even harder to find. Quite often the finger wheel on these sets is broken. Or missing a piece of the bakelite from which it was made. The set itself. Is in amazing shape for something that’s 60 years old, or close to it. The case and handset have no chips or significant ... morescratches that I can find. There are a couple of very small marks that appear to be slight imperfections created in. Or by the mold when the set was cast. This set is not to be confused with the Northern Electric Uniphone. Which was made in Montreal, Canada. While they are similar in appearance. They do have their differences, and were made by two completely different telephone manufacturers. The North Electric 7H6. Was made to compete with Western Electric’s 302 desk set, and Northern Electric’s Uniphone, as well as sets made by Automatic Electric and other telephone makers of the day. All of the above mentioned sets. Are classified as combined, anti sidetone telephone sets. North Electric bought some of their components from other telephone makers. Such as Western Electric. The induction coil. The handset F1 transmitter and HA1 receiver, were either made by Western, or made by North Electric under license from Western. The set had no line cord when I received it. And the original rubber handset cord was dried out, and the inner insulation was cracked and falling off the copper conductors inside the transmitter cavity of the handset, and required replacement. Offere d for sale is a Diminutive Mahogany Empire Ladies Desk circa 1840. This wonderful slant front Empire desk features a tooled leather top. Hidden compartment for inks and quills and slide out candle shelves. The top lifts to reveal a storage area with fake drawers with little ivory knobs. A lovely carved molding is around the bottom of the desk. Fully turned columns with carved capitals support the desk. Beautifully carved corner brackets can be found under each corner. Scrolled feet hold cupped rollers, hiding them from view. There are a couple of piece of veneer missing from the feet. Not uncommon for a piece of this age. On the inside there is an age separation in wood, again not uncommon and one candle holder has been replaced, please look closely the photos. Antique Jansen Louis XVI Ebonized Mahogany Display Desk This maginificent display table/bureauplat is charmingly shabby. Though unsigned. It is almost certainly by Maison Jansen. The style, the quality of workmanship, the materials, are clearly of the highest quality. Please see picture number 6 for a close up of the underlying wood grain, which appears to be mahogany(though walnut is not an impossibility) The framed glass top. Reveals 2 separators with gilded scrolling, providing areas for 3 locked drawers. The locks are brand new and not original. This piece would make a jewelry or fine fashion arts display case of pure perfection for any shop featuring an upscale shabby chic style. A nearly identical piece is shown in the June 2013 New York Times Style Magazine on pages 86-87 STYLE: The ebonized mahogany and carved and gilt molding identify ... morethis piece as an interpretation of neoclassical Louis XVI style favored by Maison Jansen and European early 20th century royalty and the Kennedy White House. The republic style legs place it in the 1920-30's era. WORKMANSHIP: The intricate carving. Gilded moldings, and ebonizing are of days-gone-by and simply unavailable in today's market. Though the legs appear somewhat fragile supporting the weight of the overall table, they are solidly attached with heavy metal flanges and grommets. The drawers show the dovetail joints(pictures 9 and 10) All joining of the piece are solid and exhibit NO separation. MATERIALS: Though wood identification is difficult with painted furniture. There are enough small areas with worn paint to show the underlying wood. Beautiful mahogany slant top. Block front desk made by Nathan Margolis, in very good condition. This desk has everything you would want: beautiful finish work, large storage drawers, and internal cubis and drawers.The desk is 42 7/8 inches high, 21 inches deep, and 39 3/4 inches wide. It has all original hardware, ball and claw feet, secret compartments, and a key to lock the top portion of desk. It was commissioned by NL Gardner in 1905, and has been in the family since. The back board is slightly warped as shown in picture, and there are slight nicks on feet, but no significant damage. Margolis is reputed to have been the best cabinet maker of the twentieth century and has pieces at Winterthur. He is known for making high quality. Traditional pieces. Antique Empire Desk Description: Drop-down front. With two secret drawers, miniature columns on the inside to match the outside. Five inside drawers and four outside drawers. Finished with very ornate brass fittings on columns and drawers. The top drawer fitting does not match the bottom two. White marble top, not the orginal but has been there for 100 years. It is finished in a matched mahogany veneer. When the desk surface was refinished at some time it was done poorly and varnish drips come down the whole front of the cabinet.
