Vintage Mahogany Spinet Style Desk with pullout writing tray. 3 draws, 2 cubby holes, and 2"secret" draws. This lovely piece measures 36" long x 21" deep x 33" high. It can be used as a desk or as a sideboard in any room. The draws are large enough to allow it to be a writing/laptop desk. Hall Table or Sideboard. Great acessory piece in great condition. Inside draws are 8" x 8" x 1 1/2" the main draw is 24" x 16" x 2 1/2" the 2 cubbies are 4" x 9" x 1 1/2" deep and the secret compartments are 3 1/2 x 18" x 3" deep. Overall it weighs about 50 pounds which allow it to be moved effortlessly form place to place. It was made in the Grand Rapids area of Michigan by Colonial Mfg. Here is an absolutely gorgeous antique mahogany desk with lovely burl mahogany veneer and border design inlay. Circa 1840 and American made. This slant front desk drawers. The desk stands 43 inches tall and measures 38 inches wide by 21 inches deep, front to back. The writing surface itself is 36 inches wide by 21 inches from front to back. The surface is beautiful and in very good condition. The inside of the desk also reveals 16 small drawers and an additional cubby with lovely inlay door as shown. Below the desk slant front. T here are four large drawers. Each 31 1/2 inches wide and 18 1/4 inches front to back and then 2 3/4, 3 3/4, 4 3/4 and 6 inches deep respectively, in descending order. The lock sets are original and in working order and the keys are replaced. The drawers are all still lined with a thin blue paper.certainly a Victorian ... morething. The desk is in very good early 19th century condition in that it has had some restoration through the years.ie veneer and stringing inlay repairs and replacements. Cherished and not abused, from a non-smoking home. My parents bought it in Charlottesville, VA in the early 1970s. Beautiful striped veneer vertically across the slanted top. In exceptional condition for the age. Some small losses and light cracks in veneer, very small, I'm happy to send photos. Slant top desk that has tight brass hinges and longer elaborate hinge guides on each size of the slant plank Lovely inside. With drawers, and scalloped/scrolled cubbies. Four horizontal drawers. Measures approximately 53-1/4" ... morewide. 29"tall at bottom of slant/40" tall, and 19" deep at fold of slanted area, top is 8-1/2" I was just researching the dovetail joints on the 4 large drawers to see if I could better date this desk. The dovetails are not hand cut and irregular. But are consistent. Online I found this description: A close inspection shows no irregular saw cuts or variation from a skilled craftsman, but rather a precise and identical manufactured machined joint. These machine-cut dovetails are as strong and long lasting as the hand-made joints, and became the standard of better American furniture ever since the late 1890's. So this desk may be very late 1800s or early 1900s. Another indication is that the back is not multiple boards. But appears to be an early plywood? There is a tiny hole drilled in the back where I think my dad had our phone(land line) cord come in so the phone could be in the desk. Regardless, it is a beautiful old desk. Looks like it was once a darker brown mahogany type color. No brand name or number could be found.It was re-finished after looking over the drawers. Hardware appears original. Desk is about 42 inches long. 20 inches wide. Stands 29 1/2 with the legs. If removed, height would be about 26 inches. 9 drawers! Center drawer is 15" wide, side drawers are 9" inches wide. Other than that, it’s all original, dating from the 1850s era. It has all the original hand-chamfered backboards on it. It starts with an ogee molded crown top, and has two beautiful wavy glass doors with two shelves inside, two hand-cut dovetail drawers, a flip down flame mahogany matched veneer lid that opens to reveal a green felt writing surface, which we have replaced, and pencil trays on the side. The top drawer opens to support the writing surface. Below that are two more large drawers with wooden knobs and traditional elephant style scroll feet. The overall size is 43.5 inches wide on the base, 21 inches deep, 32 inches high to the writing surface, and an unusually tall 83 inches high overall. It’s in mind-boggling condition for a piece this old. There only minor chips here and there, and it has an amazing patina. This desk comes in two sections for transport.
