Condition: Used Location: Novato, United States I am not an expert but an antique furniture appraiser looked at this piece recently and stated this is a unique desk that he's never seen one quite ... morelike it. It was likely made in the early 1900's. Made of oak. And has a spooncarved front. There are no identifying markings. It is in excellent shape and it has the original finish. Brass fittings show a bit of tarnish but should clean up easily with a little TLC. Three of the posts on the brass rail at the top are loose but can be easily secured with a little bit of attention. One of the rail ends is stripped so that will need to be secured as well. Otherwise this piece is ready for your home. I would be happy to provide more detailed photos if requested. I hate to part with such a beautiful and unique item but we no longer have the room and it just doesn't fit our decor. The dimensions are 40 1/2” tall its tallest point. 33 1/2“ wide at its widest point at the base, and 19” deep when closed,and 34“ deep when opened. Local pickup only.

Salem Massachusetts, in the manner of John Chipman(b. 1746-1819) It features solid Cuban Mahogany case, each side crafted of a single solid plank, through-dovetailed at the top and dovetailed at the bottom. The slant front lid features an original keyhole escutcheon over what appears to be the original brass lock, falling onto arms that slide out with brass knobs- one original, the left one replaced. The open writing surface is clean, with what appear to be two original brass hinges, though curious patching is noted below flaking each hinge. Above the writing surface is a collection of nine small drawers, the centermost shell carved, each with brass knobs, below which a gallery of six pigeon holes rest in perfect symmetry. The case has four graduated drawers. Each of which feature period bail pull brass hardware flanking a replaced lock with original brass keyhole escutcheon. The drawers are hand dovetailed front and back, the front dovetails hidden behind applied cockbead molding. The drawers are yellow pine secondaries, the bottom being deeply chamfered along the perimeter to rabbet into the frame. They slide easily in and out of the case over replaced drawer runners, the drawer dividers running into the sides behind a mahogany facade, effectively hiding what are probably dovetail joints. The back of the case has all original backboards, though many nails are replaced. The molded apron features a carved shell drop down medallion in the center that mirrors the design of the middle drawer. The case rests over scroll cut bracket feet, each with an incredible flowing design in the manner of John Chipman. We do not believe the desk was executed in the shop of John Chipman. As his cases will typically feature exposed dovetail drawer dividers in the Newport manner, and the pidgeon-hole gallery will regularly featur

The interior cupboard door opens to reveal a drawer with a secret drawer behind. See photo) The desk measures 44" high by 39 1/2" wide by 20" deep. In overall very good condition. There is some minor loss to the veneer on the feet which we will restore for you. The desk lid is cupped which makes the desk impossible to lock properly though we do have a key. I don't think we want to try to address this particular issue but please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. There is also some cracking of the veneer on the lid but it is all stable, nothing loose. The desk has great color and patination and is guaranteed to be as described. There are a few small areas on the ornately carved back where there have been some small repairs to the ornately carved areas. There are a few light surface scratches to the finish from general use, but it has been very well cared for, and is in amazing condition. I am unsure of the exact age or manufacture of the piece. It most likely dates to the middle to last part of the 19th Century. It does have some cracking in the front writing surface of the desk, but these areas are superficial thus far. The desk is made of what I believe is mahogany, and has ornately carved accecents on the vitrine shelf supports which are done in reverse scrolls.

The three adjustable shelves each measure 9” in depth and 41 ¼” in width. This is truly one of the most beautiful Victorian Secretaries of its kind that we have had the privilege to offer. offered for sale is a fabulous r j horner true mahogany partner's desk. it is the largest model i believe. the top is 56 inches wide. 34 inches deep, and 32 inches tall. the knee hole is a bit over 24 inches tall. on each side there are two drawers on the right and a middle drawer over the knee hole. on the left is a door on each side that opens with folder dividers placed within. one side is a mirror image of the other, there are no fake doors, drawers, etc. on this piece. it is a very clean and neat piece and in near mint condition. there are few bumps and bruises here and there, but none that are noteworthy nor do they take away from the structure, function, and beauty of the desk. the mahogany in the piece is very good and is flame mahogany with wonderful grain throughout. i hope the pictures are good enough to display the beauty ... moreof this desk. of course the desk is not for everyone, just for those who want the best. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at the buyer's expense. i can help arrange transportation if that would be beneficial to anyone. good luck. by the way, these are quite rare and hard to come by. the last one i saw sell brought 16K at an auction with a 15 per cent buyers premium, which put it up to 18,400 when the smoke cleared.

Edwardian Mahogany Writing Table with Drop Leaves England. First half of the 20th Century, Brass Mounted with lifting Architect-style writing surface Item# 120012QIP07B This is a beautiful antique writing table. Probably crafted in England of the Edwardian influence, though later than the period. The solid boards of mahogany have brilliant grains, the mid-most center of the table lifting to create an angled writing surface. The interior has an interesting mechanism design, using a button on the back of the table to depress a little wooden catch, allowing the table top to lift and remain propped until the button is depressed again. At the back, a small compartment can be opened when the top is in lifted position, revealing several compartments and an old glass inkwell. On either side, the mahogany leaves lift on brass hinges, lifted on mahogany ... morewings that swing outward. The front of the table has a little hand dovetailed drawer with original round ring hardware. The table rests over tapered legs terminating in spade feet of the Hepplewhite influence. This is a precious little decorative piece, bringing great visual interest to any study or office setting, also being an excellent side table in a formal sitting area as it is quite unique and versatile. In overall outstanding condition with only the most minor of blemishes, sturdy and strong for regular functional use, this is a great find for any interior decorator or anyone looking to improve the variety of a room in their home. Measurements: 40 5/8" wide when opened. 26 1/2" wide when closed. 22 1/2" deep x 29" high Condition Report: Visually Outstanding Condition Minor scratches. In excellent fully restored condition with original handles. The beautiful hide writing surface is faded green with gold tooled decoration. The brass handles are original. And the drawers are lined with solid mahogany. One side of the desk has nine drawers. The other side has three drawers across the top, with a cupboard below on either side, and a shelf in each cupboard. The sides are panelled, the corners have reeded half columns, and it stands on ogee feet. It is slowly gaining character and has a few marks and scratches as one would expect for a desk of this age. It is based upon a georgian style desk and would look well in any office/ living room. The desk stands on georgian style bracket feet supporting the main section that has three small drawers eitherside of the knee hole and to the back of the knee hole there is a door. There are two top larger drawers that are serpentine leading to the top. The top has a bull nosed edge and wooden frame leading to a superb leather section. I have a drop front door from a desk insert of a 1790-1810 European Secretaire. It's Mahogan y and the plank is one inch thi ck. Some tri m was missing and veneer coming o ff. So I'm selling the slab as is. for restoration work. I removed the hardware, which is for sale in my other auctions. This auction is for the slab and attached trim only. It measures 43 1/2 inches long, 10 3/4 inches tall and is 1 7/16 inches thi ck. Where the trim and veneer are p resent. The interior slab is one inch thick. W eight is 10 pounds. 4 ounces. Look at the pictures and use the zoom feature to determine if this is what you need. It has two large wood knobs that measure 2 3/8 across. By 2 3/8 tall. for auction a wonderful antique empire mahogany huge library table or partner's desk. it is 60 inches wide. 36 inches deep, and 30 inches tall. it has a full length drawers on both sides but they are of course on opposite sides. this is just a great piece. the double pedestal is so well carved and the feet are magnificent. it also has great carved corners. i took these pictures about dark so they lack a good bit quality wise, but maybe you can ascertain the quality and beauty of this table. it could have been made by thomas day, i am not sure who the maker, but whoever it was, the table is great. the feet are just the best i have ever seen. as you can see, there is a carved bundle of leaves and other items that come over the top of the stretcher and rest there. great piece. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at the buyer's ... moreexpense. i can help arrange shipping should that be beneficial to anyone. good luck. ps. i paid a bundle for it some time ago and am just trying to get the investment back. i just took a look at the pictures, they are a bit dark and i pulled it out of the basement as i have room in the house for it and proceeded to dust it off with liquid gold. i see that i forgot to dust the stretcher. anyway, a good cleaning would do it good.

First of all this piece stands 48 high x 43 wide x 21 deep This piece is heads and shoulders above any other"Butler's desks" that I and others have personally even. The piece id very old, early 1800's when the holes for the hardware were carved in, and the other tool markings are just as primitive, although the workmanship is fantastic. On this piece, the veneer is all in really great shape! The upper panels with etched back and crossed oak leaves on twisted branches and the lower panels of trailed ivy wrapped with ribbon. The upper drawers and side panels are dressed with thickly cut and beautifully flamed mahogany. The overhung rounded top is inset with an olive green leather in very good condition with gold tooled and embossed edge detail and gold leaves to each corner. The desk dismantles into three sections- two pedestals and top and has an unusual mechanism whereby the top slots down into the pedestals and wraps around the front- so that it looks very much as though it is made in one piece when all together. Condition: there are minor dings and veneer repairs here and there to the working drawers and some very fine and old grain cracks which are stable and not going anywhere. We believe this desk to have its original finish and original heavy brass hardware. This desk measures a total height to the top of the carved gallery at the back of 47 3/4 inches. The desk's total width is 36 inches and total depth measures 17 inches(with the desk closed) and the height from the fold down writing surface to the floor measures 28 3/4 inches, and this desk weighs approximately 100 lbs. The top of the desk has a lovely shaped back-splash with applied scroll carvings. And below the fall front desk portion is accented with applied scroll carvings at the center and large ... morebrass hardware. Opening the desk reveals the writing surface,the storage drawers and cubbies at the back. The lock is intact on the desk portion but the key provided just aids in opening the desk. Below the desk portion is a large storage drawer, with two smaller drawers to the left and a cabinet to the right with another larger drawer at the base.
