This is a beautifully carved and constructed sled top lady’s desk, bench made and dating from 1900s. It’s a great ... moreexample of talented cabinet craftsmanship. It came right out of a fancy home, in original condition, showing original minor nicks and dings that are typical of its age. It wasn’t mass-produced, but was bench made. It has a raised panel hand-cut dovetail drawer with its original hardware. I did look for a signature, but could only find the scribe marks that tell that it’s bench made. It’s very high-quality, and is dovetailed front and back by hand. The carved lid opens with automatic supports, and although it’s never been damaged, the cubbyhole interior shows the last 120 or so years of use. We automatically sand down and refinish the inside, but on this piece we won’t because it is original and bench made. There is a label inside that says the arm supports were patented on April 5, 1907. It has cabriole legs, ball and claw feet, stick and ball spindle gallery that has been repaired at some point, and is in overall great condition. The size across the legs is 28 inches, across the writing lid is 26 inches, 18 inches deep from back to front on the legs, 15 inches deep on the case, and it is 40.5 inches tall from the floor to the gallery. Florida. This is originally from the est ate of Howard Frankland- Tampa Businessman who proposed the bridge named after him between Tampa and St. Petersburg. If it is needed I can find the original buyer of the estate years ago but doubt I can find the relative who sold the house contents out. Size of this desk is as follows: Height 44 1/2 inches Depth 17 inches. Base is 41 inches by 17 inches. Top of desk is 7 inches. Top of desk has a light spot from water from a flower vase staining the wood light. Drawer sizes are staggered: 1st drawer is 4 1/2 inches height. 2nd drawer is 5 1/2 inches height. 3rd drawer 6 1/4 inches height. 4th drawer 7 1/4 inches ... moreheight, I did not measure the drop down lid or the cubby holes or the little drawers. measurements are pretty close with a ruler. I have been to a furniture refinisher who has dealt in early furniture for 50 years and the desk is cherry with poplar secondary wood. Meaning the drawer sides and bottoms of the drawers. The bottom of the desk or base board underneath with the dovetails extended through is pine. The brasses are later and one is missing on the bottom drawer. The period is 1840-60s. The photos were taken on a cloudy day with a flash and some look dark but it is a reddish color. There are a lot of square nails in the back some appear square some are round. The bottom underneath has square nails. Almost everything is dovetailed but the back boards. The foot is called a bracket foot. There is a crack in the top right side of the slant front. The desk was originally used by another business man also. The next owner was a business man also and the last user was a nice teenage daughter and has powder and dust in the cubby holes from makeup and play toys stored in all the neat drawers and the dresser drawers as well. Antique Chippendale Slant Top Desk Signed Albert R. Winroth
This antique Chippendale desk is tiger maple with dovetailing throughout all the drawers. Body, and top of the desk. It is signed by Albert R. Winroth and has a beautiful inscription of historical prominence that reads"Renovated by Albert R. Winroth and Sons Stoughton Mass. Oct. 7th, 1939 Just the way Dad would have done it. History, Hitler offers peace. Here's hoping they accept for the sake of the common European people" on the bottom drawer. This I believe is in reference to the Munich Agreement where Hitler informed Chamberlain that Germany was going to occupy the Sudetenland. Thus the removal of the Czechoslovakians in the area. On September 29 1938 Chamberlain, Hitler, Edouard Daladier and Mussolini met in Munich and agreed that Germany would complete its occupation but an international commission would consider other ... moredisputed areas. At Chamberlain's request, Hitler would sign a peace treaty between the U.K. and Germany by March 39' Chamberlain sought disarmament between the five men in the Munich agreement. Of these 7 children he had 4 sons whose names are Richard, Gustav, Victor, and Albert. Late 1800. Early 1900's Chippendale style Mahogany Partners Desk. The Legs are curved like a Chippendale style with a Ball and Clawfeet. This desk has been in my family since 1911, it is probably earlier. This desk has drawers on each side, however only one side opens. There is some damage on the sides and legs to the desk, please see pictures. The major flaw is a split piece holding the left rear leg of the desk, this has been poorly repaired, but all the original wood is still there for future repair. Please see photo. This desk glows when polished, it is a beautiful piece. The drawers lock and comes with the keys. C. 1770-90 Item# 120411EIU26 This very fine piece almost certainly originates from the Salem or Boston work centers in Massachusetts during the last quarter of the 18th Century. Circa 1770-90. The dense and beautifully grained solid mahogany used in the desk was clearly selected with great care, the smooth and undulating lines of the boards understated and subtle, flowing from one drawer to the next and ultimately into the slanting desk surface. This is constructed with a solid horizontal plank flanked by vertical strips affixed with glued groove and tenons, lifting smoothly over replaced brass hinges and resting on the projecting ... morelopers with original brass knobs to reveal a large writing surface and gallery of nine small drawers and four scalloped cubby holes. The drawers are each inscribed for where each belongs in the scheme of the desk, in pencil 1-9, and each is hand dovetailed with chamfered bottoms rabbeting into the drawer frame. The center drawer features a wonderful sunk 18-lobed shell carved design flowing into the two drawers below it, a design common to these work centers, each drawer face carved out of a solid piece of mahogany. The case is crafted of solid single boards of mahogany along each side. Dovetailed into the parallel-grained pine case bottom and through-dovetailed at the top. The back is constructed of three large pine boards, behind which a pine bar perpendicular to the boards to support the top to the bottom, dovetailed at both ends with a screw through the bottom. Carved solid molding runs along the bottom of the case with an applied scalloped skirt pendant at the center, reinforced from the back with rounded glued blocking. Each drawer is graduated. Here we offer a beautiful turn 19th/ 20th Century Queen Anne. Ball and Claw Slant Front Desk. Sea Shell cartouche motifs. Not your average, run of the mill desk. This baby has crisp carvings and intricate construction. It stands on four high beautifully curved and carved legs, ending in ball and claw foot. Front lid carved to the max opens up and sets on the support slides that pull out on ends. Judging by the lack of the pull handles on the slides, and by the bronze hardware mechanism, I believe the slides to have been mechanical. Desk interior features four drawers, four upright drawers and another four cubbyhole compartments. Outside there is one wide center drawer, with two additional ones. It is in good.
