It has burl walnut trim on the fronts with an ogee bevel edge around the routed top. It has a black felt interior on the writing surface that is nice. The finish on the sides is amazing. It has panel sides, rope twisted molding, detail cast brass hardware, escutcheons are intact. There are no keys or locks. The desk is 48 inches wide, 27 inches deep and 30 inches tall. The top has the most lovely design of flowers and outlining in coloured and textured pyrography- where the wood was decorated with hot tools to produce a raised and textured effect. This box has a rather Art Nouveau look to it. The box has a little drilled hole in the side of the base. Through which fine string or ribbon can be threaded and then pulled out beneath the top, but it can also be used as a standard box for holding paperclips or small items on a desk or dressing table. The item is nicely made and has an old paper label underneath which reads"Au Printemps" So I think this was orignally sold in France. Condition is overall very good. Ut there is some wear to the green varnished areas in the top design- but this is still a lovely and rare piece. If used as a string box. I feel this would be best suited to thin string, thread or twine, as shown in the picture- and will be included with the box- rather than thick string. The desk is missing a brass corner mount and a brass lock cover. The lock itself is intact and the original key is included. It is difficult to be certain. The measurem e nts are 26" deep x 38" wi de x 29 3/4" tall. The front drops down and in side is a writing platform w ith an inkwell hole. Pencil rest, and cubbies in t he back for en v elopes. Etc. To the right is a drawer which actually comes completely out. The hinges have been replaced on this front piece as well as t he glass kno bs. There is an old keyhole and the lock seems to still be intact. However we do not have a key. My husband had his computer on this desk and be cause the underside of the des k is open. He was able to keep the keyboard on the pull-out platform, and the wires fit right throu gh. The wood is oak and is in beautiful condition ... morefor being old. This is a antique French ladies writing desk possibly(REPRO) from the mid 18th Century Boulle style. It is completely hand crafted of European wood and trimmed in Ornatmental Brass. The rarity of the hump style front and delicately curved lines is what separates this desk from so many others. The drop front opens to a leather? covered table with wooden slots at the back to keep your letters and stationary. There is even a secret compartment that slides open just in front of the writing surface. The cabriole legs are enhanced by hand sculpted brass mythical figures with wings. Cabinet makers frequently added some sort of ornamentation in the vulnerable areas of furniture to prevent dents and scratches. Antique Style Mahogany Writing Desk Made by Sligh USA
This is a very nice pretty clean writing desk. I would say the top is solid mahogany the rest is a veneer. The brass handles are all original and solid brass. The drawers all run fine. You do have either side a file drawer. The top drawer has the makers label( Sligh Holland Michigan) not really sure if they are still in business. L would guess the desk is around 30 years old, but would be a better quality desk than some they make today. The gold on the top is a little worn at the front as you will see in the picture but the leather is in pretty good condition. Measurements are 56 wide.26 deep,30 high, and the knee hole is 24 wide,24 1/2 high.

Estate sale find. I am no expert but was told this could be 18th Century. A beautiful antique writing desk. It has a fold out writing surface and a covered compartment on top. Included are two glass and brass ink wells. The glass on the ink wells in full of air bubbles and were molded in a fairly primitive mold. The adhesive that held the brass caps on the glass ink wells has failed over the years but the caps are included. This writing desk is in need of some tlc. It has lifting, missing, damaged veneer and missing and damaged brass inlay. It has a lock,but no key is included and the key hole decoration is missing. There is a repaired section on the top decorative crest. The repaired section. Pictured in picture 8, is missing the brass inlay and has had the missing brass portion painted in with gold paint. Up for auction is this antique marble desk set consisting of a dual inkwell base. Letter holder and ink blotter. The marble is white, with grey and gold veining. The base, with recessed pen/accessory well, is 16 3/8" wide and 10" deep. The base marble is 3/4" thick and stands on four 1/4" brass feet. The brass-hinged inkwell compartments are 2" tall, 3 1/2" wide, and 2 1/2" deep, and contain removable ink cups(with some chipping as seen in photo) Included in the set are a marble ink blotter(with a wooden rocker) and a letter holder, with three brass dividers. The pieces are in good condition. There is a chip on the underside of the letter holder at one of the brass attachments. The total weight of the three pieces is approximately 16 pounds.

The box is finished in Walnut with exotic woods used to create a plethora of exciting designs on all sides of the box, a true sign of quality to have this fine work all around. The box does not have a key, the fitted interior would be damaged if the lock was removed. This is an antique writing desk from Japan. The desk has panels on each side and on the back that refer to a pharmacy. Maybe the desk was made from a recycled pharmacy box.
