ANTIQUE WRITING LAP DESK This is a great antique writing lap desk. I think it dates back to the late 1800's. It was a family heirloom. From the lithograph and paper label on the inside. I believe this lap desk original came from SPAIN. This travel lap desk has been used through the years so there are expected signs of wear from normal use. The wood on the bottom has a split. I am sure not too difficult of a repair. The red cloth writing surface is worn and a bit soiled. The wood is overall nice but there are some minor scratches and scuffs from age and use. The paper labels on the inside have some additional writing not original to the labels. This desk measures 16" x 11 1/4" when opened and 8" x 11 1/4" when closed. I am estimating this box is from the 1800's. Nice collectible lap desk, writing slope, sometimes referred to as sailors writing desk. Large measuring just over 16" X 9" X 5" Black fabric what I believe to be velvet writing surface- See the many photo's. The box, lock and brass hinges or hardware are all original, the key was a later find which to my surprise works. It will not work with the original outer keyplate however. You will see someone obviously tried to open it with out the key. The outer top of the box is what is so impressive, marquetry or parquetry not sure or the proper term. whatever works. French Louis XVI Style Fruitwood Leather Top Antique Writing Desk Second Quarter of the 20th Century. Stamped"Made in France" Item# 130006OLV15 This is an outstanding find for any serious interior designer or anyone passionate about Neoclassical forms true to the spirit of Louis XVI furnishings. A French Louis XVI Style Antique Writing Desk executed in solid fruitwood. Presumably Cherry, this piece was crafted during the first half of the 20th Century- this date could probably be further isolated with research into the Circular Crowned Fire Breathing Dragon brand impressed beneath the desk beside the"Made in France" brand. The broad leather top is tooled along the edges. The surface remaining in overall quite good condition despite years of use; it is framed in fruitwood edged by brass tubing, the corners of the frame ... morepinned with exposed pegs. The top projects over three drawers, these hand dovetailed with golden oak secondary woods in the sides, back and machine-chamfered bottom. The original key is retained, working the lock on the middle drawer quite effectively. Each corner of the frame is embellished with gilded ribbed rectangular panels over the legs. The desk rests over turned and tapered legs beneath round brass rings and terminating in capped brass ball feet. It is sturdy and stable. An absolutely perfect piece for regular functional use in a home office or home library. The fruitwood glows throughout with a deep well oxidized patina beneath a polished finish. Measurements: 51 1/8" wide x 27 1/2" deep x 30" high to top; 24" high to underside of apron where the chair would pull under Condition Report: Brass rim with some dents. Beautiful desk owned by my maternal 2nd great grandmother in England. It is constructed using veneered wood with decorative metal inlays. The box opens into a sloped surface for writing. Inside. There are compartments for pens and ink bottles(two with metal caps included) Two large compartments. Accessed by lifting the interior panels, can be used to store bigger items like paper. Inside there is a secret compartment that can be opened by lifting one of the dividers in the storage tray. When the divider is lifted. The cover to the secret compartment springs open, revealing three small drawers. When closed. The box can be locked with the included key. From the included note. Gorgeous details include: hide-away desk area. Extendable writing board, small drawer on top, large drawer beneath desk, and plenty of small cubbyholes. Made of either solid maple or walnut with matching veneers. Antique FINE Walnut With BrassTrim Writing Slope Field Desk With Keys & Inkwell
This is a really handsome civil war era sloped field desk. It was given as a gift to a doctor in the near past and the brass plate is on the top. This could easily be replaced Measures 20" across. It is 7" high and 10 3/4" wide. This was well used and there are signs of this. But the desk looks great as it stands today over 150 years later. On the front there is a small piece of veneer missing on the right front edge. First picture shows this There is a surface crack on the right end over the brass handle. See in the last picture. Has a pencil tray and square openings for inkwells(I do not have the inkwells) Has a little metal clasp which turns to open slant area to put papers/documents under. Antique writing desk secretary 1800's Please read provenance.
This rare and ornately beautiful writing desk was discovered at the estate sale of the heirs of Mrs. Theodore Peterson of Boston. The desk came with a handwritten history of the desk. Said to have been bought by Mrs Peterson in England sometime in the 1800's. Mrs. Peterson is said to be the mother of civil war officer Homer Black's wife. Eugenie Peterson. Mrs. Peterson died in Harrisburg in 1924 according to the timeline document. The estate sale conductors claimed that the desk had hand written letters from civil war officer Black in it but they were removed by the family to be kept in the family. I have done no personal research to support the letter's claim and thus do not guarantee the claim of the letter or the estate sale conductor's story but I will include the letter that came with it. The condition is amazing considering ... moreits age. The drawer pulls are missing. The leather top is worn out and separated at the seam, the top handle is missing, there is some damage where the pull or possibly a latch was originally, there is missing veneer on the right side of the top. See pics. Despite all this, the dovetail joints are tight, the hinges are set in place and the only odor it emits is that of wood. No smoke or mildew, just good old wood smell. I will carefully pack and ship to the lower 48 for $18.00 and I will ship to other locations at a calculated rate depending on country or location.

Dolphin feet, and drawer pulls. It measures about 32 inches(81.28 cm) tall by 25.2 inches(64 cm) wide by 16 inches(40.64 cm) deep. It weighs over 41 pounds(18.6 Kg) by itself. Without any packing materials. It features two pull out drawers with wavy. Curved fronts, plus a slide out pull out leather topped writing desk platform that also can be taken completely out. The drawers are all dove tailed joined indicating earlier era construction and show aged wood inside. There is magnificent marquetry pinstripe bordering very finely ... moreinset wood pieces that are only found on the more exceptionally crafted pieces. Here's what I stated about this gorgeous cabinet's condition: One wood split crack and chip of inlaid veneer marquetry on front middle of bottom drawer. The drawers have some resistance when pulling out. But the can be pulled out completely and fairly easily, but just have some snug fit little tug drag to them, as does the slide out writing desk platform, but not at all a problem and just not real easy and loose pulling out. Some minor surfaces scratches, but other than these remarkably well preserved and beautiful condition dovetail joined antique writing desk cabinet. Here is one of the most magnificent Chinese Cabinets secretaries desk that I have ever seen in person with gorgeously grained and colored solid rosewoods and secondary woods and fantastic scenes meant for scholars and scribes. There are two opposing brass plates with the Ming dynasty emblem on them on each side front of this breathtaking and gorgeous cabinet. It measures 52 inches tall by 32.5 inches wide by 14 inches deep with the fold down table top not folded out but closed up. It weighs at least 100 pounds. It features old style brasses with floral and bee engravings and delightful lucky ... moreturtle brass pulls for the slide out arm supports for the desk top and also on the interior brass door. There is a hidden secret compartment for additional storage when you lift out the interior desk table top from its two brass pull connectors. The drawers are all very deep and allow for abundant storage and there are several fish locks with tasseled keys included. There is also an interesting tasseled metal latch with which to use to snag the brass supports on the bottom double door shelves to use as a handle support to open them which would otherwise be a little more difficult to do. Here's what I stated about this spectacular cabinet's condition: Locking brass latch is missing from top of desk for fold down rosewood writing table to lock it in place. But it is made to stay in place securely without having to be locked in place.
