This antique desk features it’s original finish and a has a spindle gallery back that has one turn mini post missing. It has a big carved lion faces laughing with fangs and carving on the breadboard bevel edge slant lid. The drawer fronts are block front and have real true clam shell carving. This was no doubt a custom made piece with rope molding going down each post, rope braided along the base and detail ball and claw feet.

There are a few light surface scratches to the finish from general use, but it has been very well cared for, and is in amazing condition. I am unsure of the exact age or manufacture of the piece. It most likely dates to the middle to last part of the 19th Century. It does have some cracking in the front writing surface of the desk, but these areas are superficial thus far. The desk is made of what I believe is mahogany, and has ornately carved accecents on the vitrine shelf supports which are done in reverse scrolls.

Antique Burled Ash Wood Writing Lap Desk in great condition. The inside of box has compartments and is lined with velvet. Velvet has faded from use. Lap desk is beautiful. There are two small flaws as shown is pictures on side of box. One small chip on front and small chip on back. Measurements are 14" long. 8 3/4" wide and 4 3/4" deep. I have not seen another lap desk like this before on internet or auctions. Item will be shipped USPS or UPS and packaged securely to prevent any damage during shipping and fully insured.

UNIQUE VINTAGE 1950's ANTIQUE REPRODUCTION WRITING DESK& CHAIR I purchased this desk and chair at a South Florida Antique Shop over 20 years ago. I was told it was probably made for a lady or teenager as a writing or study desk. I was never clear on the age until I did a web-search and came across this article. Below is an excerpt from the blog which explains a bit about the maker of this piece: Townshend of Vermont antiqueshoppefl.com/archives/ftaylor/qa71.htm) As seen in The Antique Shoppe Newspaper, April 2007. The label in the drawer reads"Townshend" with an"h" Not Townsend. That opened up a whole new area of exploration since there is a town in Vermont named"Townshend" that was founded in the 1700's. The history of Townshend. Vermont began in 1753 with a charter from King George II and is an ... moreinteresting tale but not for here. While researching Townshend, Vermont I came across a reference to Townshend Furniture Company. A little further digging turned up an address and phone number for the company and within a few minutes I was talking to Steve Lott who, along with his wife Susie, currently owns Townshend Furniture Company on RT 30 in Townshend, Vermont. Steve told me the company was founded after World War II by a veteran who had an interest in mostly maple Colonial Revival furniture which was produced by the company until the 1960's when it was purchased by Steve's family. Steve confirmed that the paper label found in the drawer of the drop front desk was indeed from his company and was used by his predecessor in the 1950's and 1960's but is no longer in use. That pretty well puts a definite date on this particular piece. So according to this article. The desk is most probably from the 1950's or 1960's. It is a well made amazing reproduction of a Colonial Revival piece. It has been loved and well cared-for for a long time. It really does make a beautiful impression. It is thin and sleek. Yet such a sturdy piece of well made vintage furniture.

This desk measures: Top glass front section: 26" tall x 10" deep x 31 wide. distance between the shelves is: 8" They are equal and are not movable. There are 2 shelves making 3 spaces for books, display items etc. The glass doors swing easily and there is a lock that works with a key( included) The left side has an inside clasp under the top shelf to keep it closed. There were at one time X shaped minions on the glass that still have a faint impression in the glass. May be removable-I never tried. Bottom Desk/drawer section: 39 1/2" tall x 16" deep x 31 1/2" wide. The drawers on the inside are 27 1/2" wide x 6 1/4" high x 13 1/4" deep. Each of the 3 drawers are the same size and all slide freely. Desk section: The swing down desk writing surface that closes to a slant measures 11 1/2" deep ... morex 30 1/4" wide. The hinges are sturdy. There are no underneath bars or braces. The remaining desk surface that is existing that goes in from the fold down section measures 15" deep. There are 2 small drawers. One on either side, the drawer inside dimensions are: 6" x 5 3/4" x 1 1/2" deep They both slide freely. Above each drawer are 2 upright letter sections each measuring 7" deep x 3" wide x 4 3/4" high. There is a flat section between the small drawer/letter sections that measures 9" x 7" deep x 9" wide. There is space on either side of this cubby section for taller ledgers, books etc. that measures 2 1/4" wide x 10" tall x 7" deep. This is a very practical and well laid out inside section for various storage. Still useful today for lots of desk type items. An antique Austrian fretwork Art Nouveau writing desk stand with original glass inkwells. Circa 1890. Both glass inkwells are missing their metal lids. The glass is undamaged. Very very decorative and very very Art Nouveau. It has small star shaped brass fixings on the front and sides. It measures approx: 32.5 cms- 13 inches x 23 cms- 9 inches. The height is 21.5cms 8.5 cms. In good sturdy condition. There are ink stains on the inside which are clearly showing in one of the photo's. There are some nicks on either side. Antique Victorian Travel Writing Desk Wood Brass Box Ink Bottle- Full of Letters
An unusual find at an estate sale is this 1800s Victorian travel writing desk with inkwell. Stuffed full of copperplate handwritten letters. There are over 100 letters, some with envelopes, in the storage compartment under the blotter. The beautiful wood box needs restoration, however, as it is in damaged condition. The front lock is missing, there is a brass curved corner piece missing, and the lid does not sit square- looks like a problem with a hinge adjustment. The felt on the underside is missing, and the blue velvet blotter on the writing surface is stained. A cut glass inkwell is missing its lid. There is a crack in the veneer on the front, and a chip on the back. The inlaid brass straps are present with original patina. The brass oval disc on the lid is loose, and has not been monogrammed. Beautiful Antique Travel Writing Letter Desk w Inlay of fruit/olive wood. Possibly from Italy or Germany? Very nice and in good condition. Some wear to the finish. A small crack on the front panel on the left edge. Inside the front letter panel is missing a piece of wood and has a bad glue repair. The outside is a lovely floral inlay of roses, pansies, and daffodils. The front panel has inlaid monogram of CCM. The inside desk part is a beautiful burl panel of inlay. Four compartments for papers and letters. Four compartments for pens, inkwells, and stamps. The top lock is in good condition, but we do not have the key. Beautiful Antique Roll Top Lap Desk. Writing Slope Up for your consideration is this truly beautiful antique lap desk. Made of wood. I am uncertain of the actual type of wood but has nice graining. This is just great in every way, it is intact and very secure when completely shut and when you pull out the drawer at the front, it will open the roll top portion in the back to expose a three section area inside. Once the roll top is open, you can unfold the desk portion which flips open from back to front and leans securely on the open drawer for stability, the desk has a purple or a worn blue felt top with brass hinges. Again, the wood is very nice inside and out, the drawer opens nicely as does the roll top portion. There is a large transfer decoration on the wood desk top, there is also the very slight remains of one on the top of the roll ... moretop framed area. There are only two areas with minor problems, first is the lower right corner which is missing a small corner wood piece, and the upper left corner of the framing of the roll top where there is also a small piece of wood missing; otherwise, working very well and looking very good. There is a brass lock in place for the drawer but no key and the hinges are brass as well and seem to be original. It measures 12 1/8" wide, 9 1/4" deep, 5 1/2" tall. It is very clean, no major breaks, cracks, or discoloration. Nice patina, nice scroll design in wood at the top roll top framing, transfer decoration is wearing and almost gone on the top portion, and of course, the two missing pieces mentioned earlier. Antique Traveler's Folding Walnut Writing Desk/ Box/ Secretary* All Original This is a late 19th century portable. Or traveling, writing desk. It is 13 3/4" wide, 8 3/4" deep when closed, and 4" high closed. It is made of nicely figured walnut with brass reinforcements. Everything is completely original. The exterior finish has very fine crazing which is not obvious- you must view it at an acute angle in the light- and VERY few of the minor marks these things usually pick up over a century. There is no real damage or dings. I do not have the key. The hinges are completely solid. The interior wood finish is in nearly the same condition but has about a half dozen wear spots. The velvet pad is original. It is split across the boxe's hinge but I believe it may have been made that way- there in no fraying- and the tab to ... morelift the bottom section is missing. The only real problem is that the velvet, which acts as the hinge for the two compartment lids, is loose from the frame of the box's lid as seen in the fourth pic; this is easily repaired. The compartments are clean and include the original dust. There are two ink bottles- one with its original pewter collar and lid and the other is missing the pewter pieces. The lid for the pen/pencil compartment has ink spilled on it(seen in the pics) but this should clean off if you know how to do that. Nice Antique Circa late 1800's walnut slanted lap desk/writing cabinet. Brass hinged cover flips open to a removable felt writing surface with storage for documents and paper underneath. Two individual inkwell compartments are separated by a long compartment that stores pens and other writing materials. Length is 12 5/16" Height is 3 1/4" There are condition issues- the lid has a chunk off lower. Left corner; a 1 12" crack lower, right; the front hinges have been replaced(compare photos 4 and 9) Inside, a circle of laquer is missing, with other smaller losses to outside; there is a space without wood to base(see photos 7 and 10) Charming old lock, but key is lost. This Attractive writing desk is made out of solid wood, and it has a Victorian style medium/dark red/brown stain finish color that makes it look like Mahogany but it is definitely a hard wood that looks more like OAK to me. There is a slight curve to the front to the drawer sides which adds a very nice flair. The top is solid wood, not veneer. It is in it’s original condition so there are scratches on the desktop due to normal everyday wear. There is a Decorative edge that has been added to the edge of the top that may not have been original. Vintage Furniture: Antique Wood Writing Desk- Cherry- 2 x 4 ½ Ft. This neat old desk is in the Queen Anne style. It’s all wood with solid cherry and cherry veneers. And brass hardware. I got it from an antique store about 20 years ago. The store owner said he brought it back from a buying trip to England. It’s very functional and cool looking. It can be used for all kinds of purposes in addition to a normal writing desk, including dressing table, computer table, side board, etc. The only reason I am selling is that we are redecorating after moving to a new house and need something completely different. The top measures 24" 2' deep. 54" 4" 6" wide, and 29" tall. There is a 23" wide center drawer with a built in pencil tray. There are two, 12" drawers(one on each side) There are two, 18.5" wide ... moreslide out writing extension boards that extend another 12" out of each end. Most of the wear on the piece was there when I bought it. But there were a few more unavoidable dings of my own along the way. There is a general collection of small nicks or marks, and a small piece of veneer missing on the bottom front edge. Any such issues are easily reparable, but that was just never anything I needed to do when I was using it. Now that I’m redecorating anyway, it’s easier to just price the piece on the low side and let the new owner take care of things as they wish. I can’t really ship this due to size and weight. But you can pick it up in Bean Station, Tennessee(less than 1 hour NE of Knoxville and 1 hour from the Smoky Mountains. a nice place to visit if you haven’t been here! 1867 SIGNED antique victorian TRAVELLING WRITING/LAP DESK w/MOP cruch pa wood
This listing is for the 1867 lap desk. It is signed in pencil under the felted desk lid. I think I make out the name to be Cruch. And possibly lanc(lancaster) and definitely 1867(see photos) The insides are overall nice for age with what may be the original green felt. It has some holes and pitting as shown. It's got a wierd kind of locking device which I can not. For the life of me see a keyhole or how it would lock. It is in the center section on the edges of the top doors. Speaking of the top. It is missing a mother of pearl piece on the top. And you can see there is damage to the veneer, mostly o nthe lid. On the front left side, there is some damage to the upper corner. It is petite and it is made with SOLID OAK. It has its original finish. The HUTCH and DESK DOORS have simple leaded glass fronts. It is accented with large nail head accents inside and outside down near the bottom of the desk. All the hardware is original. The approximate age of this desk is early late 1800- 1900's. It is in EXCELLENT CONDITION with the exception of the leather across the top has a small burn mark and the arch at the top of the hutch is missing one wood peg. The desk itself consists of five functional drawers. Each drawer locks and one key is included. The middle and top right drawer are a little difficult to get the key into the lock.
