This is a stunning antique 19th century handmade wooden traveling writing desk box. the box has a beautiful dark color wood with a strong grain and has nice inlaid pieces of mother of pearl. the lid opens and closes on hinges and locks with a key in the front. it is missing the key but takes a generic skeleton key. under the lid is a storage area and is used to write on. it has a beautiful brass locking mechanism that works nicely and the outside is covered with maroon velour. the bottom part has many storage compartments and two glass inkwells that are original to the box. they are made from glass with silver-plated lids. the box measures 10 1/2 inches by 8 1/2 inches by 3 inches tall. it has normal ware and tare from age. but overall in nice antique condition. refer to all pictures. the storage area could be missing some pieces but not ... moresure. The desk itself did have a crack in the inner tray and I showed how it was repaired over 50 years ago. Also there are two cracks at the corners on the top. These were also there for over 50 years. The outside has tempered to a light golden color and the top has some stains. I have never tried to recondition it as to me it enhances the antique look of the piece. It measures 16” wide by 12” front to back and is about 6 ½” deep. The Chippendale style legs are floor to bottom of desk 14 ½” So together it stands about 20” tall. The box is beautifully brass bound with a quality screwed construction and flush military style handles either side. Antique Mahogany Writing Desk over 125 yrs
I can't tell you much about this desk. It is solid mahogany. Has 2 front drawers and a center drawer on the shelve. 2 drop down sides, rollers and is very good condition except on the inside of one of the legs there was a crack that has been fixed. This desk has to be over 125 years old at least. On the inside drawer it has the company name and#123. There is a picture showing the company and item# I also have a chair I use with it but I don't know if it's an antique or reproduction. I had the chair redone along with the 2 small pillows. This is a diamond in the rough. Yes it needs loving care and restoration. We know it was a great. Great grandmothers desk, but not sure if she brought it from England or not. It has a secret drawer. Little compartments, and a little cover for small treasures. inkwell glass bottle(1) Some keys, some waxed string for whatever we don't know. It has brass corner plates, and a plate on the top which we believe are the initials. H A M. there is what appears to be one pen which you would put a tip in, and a pencil. THERE IS ALSO some original sealing wax. they kind you melt and stamp. The felt is in bad shape, and the felt that connected the little table hinge is worn off. It weighs 14.9 pounds. measures in the box form 10 X 17 3/4 X 7 1/4" tall. and opened up it is 21" long, and slants for easy writing. It needs someone who can appreciate ... morehow old it is. A treasure from long ago. I am not asking lots of money because it does need some redoing. I took pictures of all angles so you can see it is missing a bit of wood on one corner. The lock it gone. This box is from the 1800's. The pre-electricity days. I believe this is Mahogany. Beautiful original finish and dark interior patina. Original brass hinges. Stamped metal wreath and feathers medallion. I'm not sure if this was something added at some point? There are added small nails along the back edge of the top. Here is a stunning quality and unusual antique Victorian English burr walnut carved leather side/ writing table. Circa 1860. The table features an unusual but very pretty shaped ... moretop, slightly similar to a kidney shaped table. The top is set with sage green leather and finished with gold tooling to the perimeter. The top is finished with a lovely shaped moulded edge and pretty bur walnut figuring. The top section of the leg features a splayed fluted column, which transcends into a large floral carved bulbous column below. Below the bulbous pedestals is an elegantly carved floral petal head, which sits on top of the carved splayed legs. The legs terminated on its original brass castors. This table is in excellent condition without any breaks or damage; it has a fantastic colour and patination. This item features a mid-brown to mellow walnut colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the office. Antique American Mahogany Writing Desk Bureau with Brass Handles
This is a very nice very heavy Desk Bureau made in USA circa 1820. There are a few little repairs to the flap but the rest of the desk is pretty good. The colors is a brown and slightly reddish. The drawers and the flap has satinwood string inlay. There are small areas were some is missing, it sits on splayed feet and has brass handles which may not be the original ones. The back and the drawer linings again are all original with dovetail joints to the drawers. Its fitted with 2 envelope drawers to the interiors and many small drawers with a few small brass handles missing. But we will try and find these before its sold. The slides work fine to support the flap. Measurements are 42 wide 20 deep. 43 high. Solid poplar hardwood has a cherry finish on this antique American made furniture. The wide drawer has hand cut dovetailed joints and a chamfered bottom. There are stains. Mars and hand planing marks as shown in photos, preserved with a satiny finish in excellent condition. Delicately proportioned legs show Sheraton influence.
